I just did this by removing the grill parts laying it on its side, removing bottom grate, then fan and disconnecting wires and pulling new one through. Hardest part is the grommet. Good to go
**String Trick for Replacing an Igniter on a GMG. (DC/Trek) Start by removing the internal components from this smoker. (Grates, Grease Tray, and Heat Shield). Once that is complete, remove the 10 mm grill grate that is underneath the hopper box. This will have you lay underneath the hopper for the removal process. Once that grate is removed, locate the one red and one white igniter wires at the green plastic bullet connectors and disconnect both wires. You will want to remove the black plastic grommet like shown in the video above. Now tie a string or fishing line to the two bullet connectors. Once the string is tied to the connectors, go back to the fire pot, and pull out the rod which should be followed by the wires and the string or fishing line you just tied. Now that you have some string inside the smoker, you can tie this string to the new replacement igniter inside the fire pot. Once you are back under the hopper you can pull on this string and the new igniter should pop out after a couple gentle pulls on the string and then igniter wires. We recommend doing this carefully and this trick should help make this installation process a tad easier than the video shows above.
I think there is a much simpler way to replace the igniter....dip most of pellets out of hopper...tape lid down on hopper with good duct tape....lay unit on side...remove grid to access wires from bottom... unplug and remove defective wiring push new igniter thru tube....reinstall grid plug in and check function ...of course stand unit back up...bout as simple as one can get....
My ignitor aint pullin out, is the phillips set screw i can see inside (impossible to even get a stubby driver on it) on the connector holding the connector on the housing or the ignitor to the connector?
I bought a brand new Davey Crockett from Amazon after months of research. I received the grill shipped directly from Green Mountain Grills. I paid $379 for the grill and followed the initial start up and burn in steps. When I went to start the grill for a first cook it would not power on. I've tried calling but no human will answer. I've tried emailing the warranty department. I got a couple email responses to troubleshoot and nothing has worked. It has been weeks without any response from Green Mountain. I just want a working grill that I paid for or replacement parts to fix what arrived broken. How do I get that help?
mine died after 2 years. have it inbound on wednesday... and already have a new temp sensor, may replace that as well... new one looks from picture to be the steel ignitor, not the ceramic that mine had factory.
This video is ridiculous. This guy blowing through every step trying to make it look so easy and not spending any time on each process to show you exactly how to do it.

Just had mine shipped. It died after a year. It seems pretty easy to change. Thanks GMG!

I would like to see a video so we can see how easy it would be.

Not the same video you emailed me last week. Thanks.
Lol
Why would I need to replace the ignitor??
they can fail.... wear item... firebox gets up over 800 degrees. and is in direct contact with the ignitor element..

I followed it, true not as fast as the video, probably 40 minutes. Saved me a bunch of money.
