Thank you David, Jason, Felipe and all of you at Modern Drummer. Thank you for having me bd a part of your magazine and content. I’m very honored!
Your last video was 6 years ago, brother 😅 Start uploading again.
Showroom!!!
Great to see you on here Johnny!!
you are amazing mr Rabb!!
Showroom Johnny!!! Johnny taught me the one hand roll a long time ago when I was with Johnny Rabb Drumsticks.
So glad Johnny Rabb has such a solid gig. Saw him with Collective Soul in 2016 and have been keeping my eye on him since I first saw his work with WFD. His hand speed along with Mangini....blew me away.
Johnny Rabb is such a gentleman, I was lucky to hang out after a clinic here in Charlotte NC, killer clinic and Johnny walked with me and my friend Pablo to the car and shot the breeze for a few minutes out in parking lot at Guitar Center. I will never forget how cool that was!!
Thank you Modern Drummer for being every drummer's guiding light for so many decades!!!
Collective Soul with the gravity blasts? Hell yeah!
Came to say this! 😅🎉
Johnny Rabb drumsticks are coming back???? Yahoo!!!! Those were my all time favorites. 5A with a ball tip. I will be watching and waiting with anticipation!
Johnny Rabb sticks again?!! Hell yeah!! Just signed up for the newsletter and can't wait to buy some JR recipe sticks once again!
Johnny is a great dude! Truly miss talking to this guy every year at the Rockett Drum Works booth! Mad love Johnny and great job MD for the video! ❤
Johnny is one of my favorite drummers. Love his style and he's such a friendly, approachable guy! I met him at a Collective Soul show at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ many years ago. Got an autographed stick directly from him! Been a big fan of his promotion/demo of Roland products as well!
I learned the one handed roll using the rim as a full rum, from him. Grateful. My son won a rotator also at that drum clinic. Memories
Great episode David! I love that this included an educational aspect to it also! So cool! Johnny's such a cool dude and he brings a positive energy to everything that I've seen. Even watching him play makes me feel like, life is good! Love that guy!
I’m an OG Johnny Rabb guy. All time favorite sticks! Glad to hear you’re making a comeback! 👊
Johnny is one of the dopest cats and a helluva drummer, awesome to see him getting some well deserved attention! =)
Johnny, thank you so much for your "The Official FreeHand Technique" book! It helps me and my students to learn, how to use freehand in more interesting patterns, then gravity blast beats.
And David, thank you for this interview.
Thank for this interview
Love my Johnny Rabb Jim Keltner signature sticks, those babies are the perfect stick for me. Bought all the NOS I could find many years ago, and still have a few pair in great shape.

Thanks for these awesome contents, Modern Drummer! You guys rock!
It' mad that the Lars Ulrich one was in the can for a whole year before release.
I got to do a 30 minute one on one lesson with Johnny probably 15 years ago before one of his clinics in Tampa, FL. An absolutely awesome person and great teacher. Taught a lot about playing in the pocket in such a short amount of time.
Jonnie has always been one of my favorite drummers. Back in the 80s he was everywhere.
Wayne!!! Excellent Drum Tech and even better person!
I've got a few different style Johnny Rabb sticks that I've had for 20+ years. Thanks and Blessings!
Love Rabbs' playing !
Another great vid. Johnny is such an innovator, great drummer!
This guy is such a legend.
I love these instalments
Love that snare technique. Very useful!!
Johnny Rabb rocks.🤘🏽
Johnny is a beast. He’s always been more of a lowkey, drummer’s drummer. But his name should be way bigger than it is!
Absolutely, he's great
Loved this rundown video!
I’m glad to know others are having same issues with freehand technique as I am. I’ve had that book too for ten+ years and I’m still struggling with keeping the hand still/straight and forearm relaxed too and with limited to no practice it doesn’t help me either. I thought I would have the “aha, 💡 “ moment but not yet.
Aha moment exists! I promise.
Mr, Johnny Rab is a true gentleman. Love his drumwork on some of Alain Caron albums
So Solid and he can play literally anything.
Such a killer drummer and a really good guy!
Bello/Magnifico.🙏✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️👑
We loved Johnny rabbis stick company we bought the entire last giant ten foot palate of alll sorts of sticks when he sadly sold it or sold it to dw and then dw sold the sticks to the shop I can’t remember. We loved the Kim keltner long tapered sticks so much and we certainly miss them. Never heard a negative thing about Johnny rabb from anyone and I mean anyone!
I remember him from his Roland days.
Johnny Rabb. My old pal!
The RhythmSaw sticks!!!
I just scored a brick of NOS Promark TX731W Johnny Rabb signature sticks from 8th Street Music and I'm stoked 😎
His blue nylon brushes are amazing!
They don't make them any more though. :(
Nice kit ☠️🕷👽💀
Roto Snare for the win! 🥳
Johnny is a groover 🔥 Are you saying he invented gravity blasting? 🤔🤔 Camera person needs to learn to zoom in or something, like when John was pointing out the hat block on the floor, the view was just kind of confusedly floating around way high and away from the kit....
His drum tech looks like Matt Sorum
Johnny's a great drummer he can make a garbage can sound good but I'm going to start practicing That Trick
I want a roto snare.
Hey, Im looking for help matching two cymbals (splashes are preferred!) to make a stack. Im not picky on size/series but I ruled out the Max Stax and have the stacker Sabian makes, in the "X" series. Ideas?
👍
A gravity blast lesson from an alt rock drummer was not on my bingo card😅
Alt music gravity blasts!
I’m gonna take it you’re pretty young. This is the guy that invented the freehand technique in the 1990s - then the metal guys tried to steal it and rebrand it the gravity blast. No such thing as a gravity blast only the free hand technique, no matter what your friends think.
Youre always talking over the drummers. Let them talk
Hiring Johnny to play for Collective Soul is like renting a Ferrari to go pick your groceries.
Why do Americans talk over the top of each other .. especially after asking someone a question?
I didn’t know seth rogan joined the band!I kid.Thanks as always MD….

Proper posture and technique would have helped with that!
