    If anyone is interested in helping out the eagle bus owners with the repair bill you can make a contribution via PayPal to us and we will apply it to their bill for them. The repair bill is going to be in the 15k range it looks like. So it's a big expense right at Christmas with 5 kids. They aren't begging I'm just sharing with our subscribers if you want to help you can. Put eagle bus in the info and send as a friend to help them out if you would like. It's not tax deductible or anything just a nice gesture if you choose. PayPal email is
    scott@busgreasemonkey.com
    We will be sharing the info on this later this week. It's going to be a very heart warming announcement when we reveal the donation total. Many of our Patreon subscription members have already contributed and hopefully by sharing this here we will really be able to deliver some even more awesome news when we hand over the final bill. I feel like scrooge handing them a giant bill right before Christmas. We are all working so hard to get them back safely on the road to continue or officially start their full time bus life after a very rocky start on the trip home after purchasing the bus.

      Scott, you guys are awesome. I just want to say: anybody who's been around mechanics knows that you earn every single cent you charge customers and then some. This is a big job, and it's a bummer for the owner, but that's not on you. Your work is worth it.

    At 8:08, the MAC wrench "knuckle saver" actually has to do with the angle of the wrench. You'll notice that the box end isn't in a straight line with the rest of the wrench but, that when on a nut, is angled up or down depending lion which way it's installed on the nut. When placed on a nut and angled up, it prevents your knuckles from dragging across the surface, saving them from damage. Or at least that's what my MAC tools dealer told me.

    What you said about the tire shops stripping studs is worrisome. I don’t like extra regulation but tire shops should be checked for stripping and if found they should have to pay a hefty fine. The only way to change things sometimes is to hit them in the wallet. People’s lives could be ruined by a massive tire coming off.
    Awesome job and Merry Christmas BGM family.

    These are lessons for every want to be new bus owners, I am in that boat myself. I have not been able to make a deal on one yet, and perhaps I have made some owners a little frustrated with the questions that I ask, and I have been also asking for walk around videos inside and out showing everything working and running, so far that has happened a couple of times, and I saw things that worried me, so for the price that they were asking, I bowed out. I realize that every bus will need something, but when I see 10-15K worth of work along with tires and batteries, I'm out, definitely not looking for a project, unless the price is right, and I can find someone like Scott to see what all it needs, and fix it. I hope once everything is fixed underneath this bus, that this young man will enjoy it for the reason that he bought it, and not overthink everything, he'll have a nice bus, once these issues are all addressed. Way to go guys, and you're teaching the customer valuable information at the same time.

    To bad this guy didn't have this bus properly inspected by qualified individuals, could have saved himself a ton of money. Thankfully he had the good fortune of finding BGM and getting this sick Eagle running good and, most importantly, safe to drive his family around in. I know you already have a ton on your plate, but perhaps you could offer an inspection service, done with pictures and video online. You could tell them where to look and what to photograph and video and what questions to ask the seller, just a thought. Merry Christmas !

    • @1982MCI
      @1982MCI ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a nice thought David but there’s not enough shops or mechanics around anymore so the ones that are functioning are backlogged at least a month or two and I haven’t found one shop or mechanic in the past year that was will ing to do an inspection for me. I got tired of waiting when I thought I found the right one after looking for just over 4 years and I had sent Scott a patreon msg to see if I could send him pics to see if he saw anything alarming but didn’t hear back about that so I bought it because I was told they had just had it inspected and they sent me the inspection report from that mechanic and there weren’t any red flags I saw so I flew to Florida and got it and within 60 miles, ti was sitting in the dark in South Georgia with no generator and no lights. That was just the start of the fiasco. I broke down 3 more times and had to finish the last ten miles on a tow truck on a Sunday night after hours. There just aren’t the mechanics out here with the experience to do prepurchase inspections right now and I’m not getting any younger so you either do the best you can or don’t get anything at all

    The positive thing about this is that you are getting it sorted.
    The negative is the circumstances of the sale and the purchase process,and I would question the integrity of certain people .
    Most decent people would find it difficult to dispose of something without knowing first hand it was 100% ok .
    Normally a reduced price and disclosure of faults clears the path ahead .
    Just because it's a bus is no excuse for not knowing fully it's roadworthy ness.
    Wishing the family better times on the road and that they can use their skills to earn extra money to put towards covering the bill.

    • @mfbfreak
      @mfbfreak ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Inspections for commercial vehicles over here are yearly as far as i'm aware. The air leaks and rust would definitely have been caught probably years ago.
      Inspections are a bitch because it's costly and you might end up having to leave your vehicle at the garage if doesn't pass, but it does make buying 2nd hand vehicles a lot easier, because at least the most safety critical things were in order at the time of the inspection.
      You can buy a 500 euro car here, and have one with fully functioning brakes, tires that are passable, and structural rust that's not yet bad enough to have failed a couple of months ago.

    Have you guys thought about getting a rosebud head for your torch ? It is far more effective and safer than using a cutting head to heat parts, on bump on the oxy lever and your screwed.

    5:41 those gauges may or may not be accurate, need to calibrate them to tell, but they are definitely not precise enough for diagnostic purposes as the scale resolution is too coarse.

    I have commercially driven MCI (99.9%) and a Prevost once. I have never seen dual air gauges. The whole system is usually tied together with no more than 3 psi/min. loss. I just feel bad for everyone involved. The marine mechanic should have caught the bad turbo, and have seen the rust on the engine cradle. He was in the engine bay.

    • @jamesglavich1426
      @jamesglavich1426 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pulling the air filter killed the turbo. The mechanic should have caught the exhaust leaks. The seller should see these videos. Probably feels like if the buyer had a mechanic checking the bus he is off the hook.

    Maybe a great topic for a live chat "What To Look For When Purchasing a Coach", I would say this is a great example of a fast talking salesman taking advantage of the buyer.

    There is an old rule when purchasing used vehicles, allow 33% extra for needed repairs in the short term. I am always wondering what the price range of these types of repairs are on these older buses.

    • @BusGreaseMonkey

      Lets face it people would hold on to this equiptment (construction, cars, rv's ,any kind of power equipment) if it was in great shape, just needing a service to be in top shape. I agree with allowing 50 percent for repairs.

    This scenario is my worst fear buying one these vintage buses. With the potential money and time involved I would fly Scott anywhere and pay for his time for a pre buy inspection. I just dont know how this person paid top dollar for this nightmare. i am not faulting the owner, it could happen to anyone. I see Tony below has the same thoughts.

  • @johngaither9263
    @johngaither9263 ปีที่แล้ว

    The owner is suffering severe financial distress from either incompetent or fraudulent statements by the seller and the technician who evaluated the engine. Lawsuits are a pain but are warranted when goods or services are woefully misrepresented either intentionally or otherwise. Besides the expenses, this owner faces the distinct possibility of missing the Christmas holidays at home.

  • @renoflames
    @renoflames ปีที่แล้ว

    Whoever put a State Inspection on that Bus needs their head examined. The Rust was obvious, and the condition could have been seen by a Blind Man. I do not fault the buyer I fault the people who inspected it. Geez what a mess...

    That turbo explains a lot of his loss of power, looks like the intake impeller is spinning independently of the shaft in the vid? I had one going bad on my coach we just caught by accident too.

    • @ShainAndrews
      @ShainAndrews ปีที่แล้ว

      The compressor is firmly attached to the shaft and spinning at the same speed. The journal bearing is shot. Easy fix most of the time.

  • @jaysmith1408
    @jaysmith1408 ปีที่แล้ว

    Please explain, so he removed the air filter because it was getting filled with soot from the exhaust, which was excessive due to the clogged turbo due to the missing air filter? Though it’s a rear engine, how would the exhaust (and that much soot) get around and back into the intake? And kudos to him for requesting a DPF, can be headache, but emissions reduction makes a bus a more pleasant neighbour. I can only imagine how many people out here wish they could (legally) get away with an emissions delete.
