This sharpener works really well! The only thing these instructions don't show is that when you switch the handle to the other 30 degree hole, you are grinding against the direction you would normally go with a handheld sharpening steel. That threw me off, but really it doesn't matter when grinding down metal this way. This contraption put great sharp edges back on the teeth of the chain for both of my two Husqvarna saws, one is .325 tge other is 3/8ths. Wish I had bought this Timberline sooner. It keeps the sharpening angle level and right at 30 degrees. I cut up to 36" trees and when bucking them out making rounds, after having sharpened them with this thing, I get perfectly straight cuts. My only worry is that this company could go out of business (I have no idea how well these are selling, so I don't know), but I ordered a few extra carbide sharpeners so I can use this thing for the next 20 years just in case . The carbides are only $20.
Had one for a few years now! I put it aside and forgot about it actually. When I got it I thought that I didn't receive my carbides that I order so anyways 2 yrs later I run across this thing in a shop drawer and got it out and lowen behold I opened the pouch and started going through it and found my carbides in the inside pocket. I used it on my saw and its definitely is a Cadillac of sharpeners. Love it. Excellent product Timber line.
I got mine earlier this week. I am a farm/ranch chainsaw user - so not pro or anything. So far, I am quite impressed with the product. I've been cutting some large oak, both crosscutting and ripping. The stuff is hard on chains. In just a few minutes I can use this little jewel to touch-up a chain - at least as good as new. Good job, Timberline!
BEWARE! I bought this sharpener in the UK and it was great to start with. However, the block and pawl (the part that holds the chisel against the sharpener) wears and stops you being able to fully sharpen the chain after awhile. I have tried and tried to get a replacement part, even emailing Timberline directly to as for a UK spares distributor. Timberline didn't even bother to acknowledge or answer my emails and so I don't know where to go next. This was a very expensive piece of kit (over £120) and so you would expect at least some basic customer service. There are similar devices in Amazon for a quarter of the price; I wonder if their customer service and spare parts are any better than Timberline.
The tool seems to be well made but I had a problem with the carbide cutter breaking after only sharpening a few teeth. I was following the directions so I don't know why it broke. I left the company two emails and one voice mail and never received a response. They are quick to sell the item but it appears customer service is non-existent after that.
Does this file down the rakers and the tooth or just the tooth. It really looks like it could save me some time and money. I can use this in the field vs taking my chains in to the shop paying the service center for chain sharpening. It will pay for its self after the first few sharpening
cool glad to hear its a good product i use a die grinder with the Oregon stones works really well too but you need a power out let for it this would be better for in the bush
I am about to go out and try the one I bought a few months ago. I do note that the center black wheeled titghtener was not used nor was not discussed. It would be nice if this video addressed it.
From their website: The center knob is only needed if your bar is worn and the chain flops from side to side. It helps push the chain vertical when sharpening side A so that the carbide can be inserted into the chain without having to push it over with your finger.
This is the best sharpener I have found! If you follow the directions it works flawlessly! The instructions clearly state to adjust the center knob so it applies slight pressure only. My saw throws chips and cut true! Every neg post on every vid are from one guy. Don't listen to him.
I agree, with dozens of professionals saying how good it is, the only way this product could suck is if the directions were not followed, or misunderstood. This thing is perfect, and it should be pretty easy to use it perfectly!
I've just got mine and it works pretty good, the only thing I am finding is that the guides are getting really sticky and metal seems to be wearing out of them. I have put oil on the shaft of the carbide to try to lube it but it doesn't seem to help.
cormus1 that’s because u carbide cutter is dull. Order a new cutter bit & u will instantly remember what u forgot @ well this thing worked when it was brand new. Tool is flawless - even brand new (like straight out of the package) chains can b improved by this tool. We throw chips the size of beer cans now with noticeably less stress on saw, motor, & humans alike. The cutters rehab old chains with all sorts of tooth damage. The cutters don’t last anywhere near as long as the company’s self acknowledged ‘best case scenario ‘ but they definitely pay for themselves several times over.
Isn't the carbide portion supposed to get dipped into some oil first? I had done that when I started using it a couple years ago based on something I read or saw, but don't know if it is an official instruction or something I mimicked from someone else.
Sure no problem repairing chains that are badly "rocked" or that have it nails. It comes with 1 carbide file (you choose the size) and extra carbide files can be purchased individually. They last more than 10X longer that regular files. All have 1/4" diameter shaft so they are interchangeable with the tool.
what if some rocked cutters are worse than others? how can it adjust for cutting more or less metal depending on each cutter without having to reset the sharpener for each length?
I just used this same sharpener on my saw today. It wouldn't cut through paper it was so dull. But my nephew put this sharpener on it and it was cutting as good as new.
@@yearginclarkeagreed it's easy. I don't touch them until every 3rd or so sharpen or when I feel there is not enough bite I've never measured it before 18" takes less than a minute.
@@glennimmortal Yeah that's about how I do it also. I go by how the chain feels when I'm cutting with it and touch them up accordingly. I've learned to definitely NOT file too much off or else you wind up with a chain that's too aggressive and jumpy, particularly when you're boring into something with the tip.
I ordered this chainsaw Asscessories kit with tool bag for $ 38.71on the web site back in January 28th. And been taking out of my bank account. So I was wondering what is the problem with my order and now it is March 4th
Hello everybody. I am looking for chainsaw sharpener for my Ms201. Where can i get this tool and related carbide? Saw depth is 3/8". Do they have that size carbide?
I was wondering the same thing. Can it reshape a tooth that has a chip in it? Does it come with files for different sized chains or do you buy them separate?
I saw this tutorial and bought this gadget. I have tried three different ones before. All were just a gimmick and did not make my hated job of sharpening any easier . So yeah I got exited about this one and low and behold, it is useless and is already in the bin with the others. I am now using hand file and keep doing the job I hate the classic way!
Cool tool! But why is a different company selling this EXACT same tool WITH four cutters for $59.99, on sale for $29.00, and you sell it for $129.99 with ONE cutter?
Y'all need to update this video for better quality and to make some things clearer - like that stopper that never seems to engage the tooth without getting in the way. Oh, and get these things in stock... trying to find them against the generic, low quality (useless) knockoffs has become pretty pointless.
Either tighten the middle knob or your bar might be shot. I had the same issue with an over worn bar (which was causing cutting issues anyway). Replaced the bar, cutting and sharpening issues solved.

Cuts in opposite rotation. Also look closely at the pitch. I was sharpening the point of the tooth one side but only the heal the other. I’m giving it one more try and paying clover attention. Perhaps after the pitch is recut I will have better results.
Doesn't seem to work like he claims. First of all if you just set it on there and tighten it up like he says you can't advance the chain because the chain hits the back side of the tool so you got to adjust it so the chain will clear. He doesn't talk about that and then what? How do you adjust the friction on it so that you can get the the cutting blade tight against the sharpener?. Pos

So to sharpen the other side tooth, all you have to do is change the handle you don’t have to do anything else to the sharpener?
You’d be able to order from place that precision machine work with tungsten and carbide
Just bought this…doesn’t say anything about filing the rakers down…does this do that too?

You were turning it in the wrong direction. Destroyed one of my bits that way
Cheers dude this was very helpful. I bought one off eBay and the instructions were in German 🤣 I didn’t fancy translating the whole manual 🤟🏻

Stop-Forward prevented me from sharpening one side. A flat-head screwdriver became the stop-forward and functioned just fine!

Video does not say anything about middle knob
I understand the price IF it’s made in the USA as wages and material are much higher than over seas!
I just received a brand new kit today for free. It looks pretty interesting I'll definitely be testing it out soon.
You forgot to even mention the balance point. Such a pro lmao
How about ripping chain? How hard could it be to make one for ripping chain?
I'm interested in a ripping sharpener too.
So does ot sharpen at 25° 30° or 35° ? That is the most important thing.
What does the center knob do? Or is it just for looks
Puts pressure on the chain so the chisel stays level with the sharpener
Love this sharpener. Extremely high quality!
Just got mine read the directions and it sharpens flawlessly gues those who dont like can read!!!

Does it sharpen each tooth or do you have to change sides to sharpen next tooth
I was thinking that also ?
The best chainsaw sharpener in the world. I use this in Romania

It's a shame it doesn't address the depth gauge tooth as well.

Lot of scammers out there!
how much are them sharpners i found some on ebay 2 for 17.90 with 3 cutters each

i just picked one up on Amazon yes it kicks butt .Forget those filly files

Our not are. Just saying...
Sales video not user video. It's a bit more difficult to get it working than that I've found esp on a non new chain
Hello everybody. I am looking for chainsaw sharpener for my Ms201. Where can i get this tool and related carbide? Saw depth is 3/8". Do they have that size carbide?
I was too aggressive with cutting back the teeth and my carbide burr has chipped teeth as a result. Go easy!
I saw (pun intended) somewhere to take a sharpie and mark the first tooth as a starting point
HOW COME I HAVE TO THROW AWAY CHAINS BECAUSE I CAN SHARPEN THEM ANY FURTHER AS TIMBERLINE WONT LET ME SHARPEN ANY FURTHER

My chain wobbles side to side while sharpening
Either tighten the middle knob or your bar might be shot. I had the same issue with an over worn bar (which was causing cutting issues anyway). Replaced the bar, cutting and sharpening issues solved.
So... not even the company explains what the center knob does??
Stops the chain from leaning over.
Its a good one
Simple enough, do any of you guys sharpen the identical teeth first & then go to the opposite ones?
