Madurai Mani iyer's speciality was even for thukkada he usedto sing alapanai. During my sajourn with him to listen in kutcheris in Madras ( now Chennai) I hd seen him doing the alapana mainly for supportin violinist,.that was his greatness. He was like a teacher with child' s heart. This particular song was a rare in his chart. But any ragam for that matter, he used to bring the flavour with bloom by his imaginative Kalpana sangadhis in alapana , swaram with the sruti and phase out the laya of exemplary pace.What a genious!
And while rendering any composition, Mani Iyervaal would bring the life of the ragam or soul of the ragam within the first few phrases of the Alapana and Iyervaal while singing Kalpanaswarams had a lot of laya suddham and Iyervaal mastered the art of Sarvalaghu Kalpanaswaram singing and would make the listener feel at ease but if we attempt, we would sound monotonous or would have to struggle a lot to reproduce the effect created by Iyervaal.
Though I heard number of songs sung by Sri Madurai Mani Iyer. this is the first time I hear the song "MANAVYALA" sung by the great musician. I very much like this. Thanks for posting this song.
