My 9 year old dog went down hill 2 days after he was first paralysed, I was trying the rest and med option as I couldn't afford surgery but it got worse and he's was suffering. sadly had to say goodbye within a week, awful having to make that decision but I had to do was right for the situation 💔🌈

My dog was diagnosed 4 weeks ago in the early stage. The vet prescribed her corprovet. She was already on cosoequin and omaga 3 fish oil supplements. The vet told me to keep that up. I decided to start giving her CBD the vet thought this was a great idea. After 4 days I noticed a difference. It has now been 4 weeks and she is playing ball running and jumping again.

@@iolite2 one of the ones was joy CBD treats for dogs the other one I can't remember your local vape CBD store should have oil and treats for dogs they say to give 5mg per 10 lbs of weight at first I was giving her a little less not knowing my dose's I only give them to her now as needed which is not much but I am giving her zesty paws aller treats which have hemp seed oil in them .I found a lot of your allergy medicine has a lot of good stuff in them fish oils omega 3 etc. My vet told me to have patience and be persistent on the fish oils and omega 3 pets smart has a lot of products that have all that in one wishing you and your dog the best

This is a long shot considering the post is a year old. I just ordered the CBD treats for my dog, blue tick coonhound. She is 5 months old and has started limping as of last week. The vet said possibly surgery but I’m trying other options. She’s going to a chiropractor and starting acupuncture. And she’s on trazodone right now because she wants to play.

@@jasloveskelly I think it is 5mg of CBD for every 10 pounds. I also was giving her different allergy medications for dogs because most of that stuff has the Omaha 3 stuff and salmon oil etc. was all recommended. My dog is doing really good now. I haven't been giving her CBD but I make sure she gets cosequin salmon oils omega 3s. I only wish that stuff would help me.. Dogs from what I understand absorb that stuff easier then humans. Good luck wishing you the best.

From everything I have read. Even if you have surgery it always come back. It’s like people once you get disc problems you will never be the same again even with surgery. Same goes for dogs. Dachshunds have the worse problems with slipped disc because of their long bodies. It will keep happening over and over. Of course vets want to collect that large fee from you. It’s $4K for MRI and over $10K for the surf and your dog has absolutely no guarantees. To prevent IVDD prevent injuries!
    To Prevent IVDD
    use only harness
    Avoid all Tug-a-war games
Avoid jumping from furniture (sofa, bed)
    Avoid stairs.
    Avoid any injury.
Pick up from below the body never by arms.
Let them sleep on memory foam mattress, latex or talalay
To avoid spine pressure while sleeping
As soon as you see any signs of IVDD
Immediately crate them for 6 weeks.
They also have a back brace that can be worn during this time.
If in pain have vet prescribe steroids prednisone and Gabapentin
    For pain.

My dog suffered a slipped disc which...I guess...developed into intervertebral disc disease, this after about 6 months. I had no choice, surgery would cost about three house payments with no guarantees. I had to put her to sleep, with much sobbing in the family.

My mini Daxie 12 yrs old fit and well until she suddenly collapsed behind four days ago. She presented with pain and wobbling and fall down behind. She is able to stand and walk before falling. She has feeling in both back toes. An X-ray showed an indication of a disk problem between the thoracic and lumber region. She is crated and on Metacam. She shows no sign of pain. MRI and surgery are not possible for us. Can you please advise on how we manage her toilet procedure? Her urination and bowel movements are normal and not affected by her injury - but how do I support her. At this time I am letting her wobble and squat and then immediately pick her up, but I fear this breaks the strict crate regime. Is this ok and what do you think are her chances of full recovery? I will be grateful for any advice you may offer.

What about the overall quality of life for the dog? No mention of that here. Not a complete synopsis of the whole situation. Therefore I discount this information.

You are 100% correct we have an awesome vet and our poor baby was perfectly fine one day and the next day she ended up with stage fiveIVDD we made the heartbreaking decision immediately to let her go because you loved her so much we didn’t want her to suffer and our vet supported this decision 100% even if she had been at a lower stage because he said the surgery is not only expensive but basically 40% success rate and the recovery is Horrific and it gives them a poor quality of life and it’s no guarantee It won’t happen again along with a bunch of other potential issues so you are 100% correct
Even our vet who is wonderful and extremely knowledgeable said it’s really shameful some of the things that go on in veterinary medicine in terms of these extremely expensive procedures when they don’t even have a high success rate and who would want to see their dogs suffer such a poor quality of life. No one!

Our peekapoo just got diagnosed with this last night at the E.R she hasn't had an MRI just x rays and we are so scared for her right now they gave her pain meds and some muscle relaxers all we know to do is keep her crated. She had been shivering on and off wed and Thurs and last night Friday we took her to the E.R and she's been wobbling in the rear when she walks now. I just want to cry

when u consider the life expenctancy of a dog, if does not make any sense to pay outrageous sums of money when considering their quality of life post surgery is often below average and always involves complications. the vetenary business is digusting.
