  • Mercedes AMG GLC43 2018 Coupe TestDriveNow Video Review By Auto Critic Steve Hammes. Will this winter ever end!? Well, it’s certainly still going strong this week but the show must go on which is why it’s great to see a set of winter rubber on this GLC43; an intermediate AMG model with just enough performance on its mind.

    Outstanding review! I wonder if Mercedes going to show Mercedes-AMG GLC43 Coupe 2019 version at geneva auto show.

    @ 74k it should have bulletproof reliability & that is not the case.

  • @venom5809

    This price is laughably high, for about the same money you could get an Escalade and for less money you can get an Infiniti QX80. The list of vehicles I would get before this for the same money is quite long.

    The sounds don't exactly match the looks...maybe in a different color, silver is too German...love to see a racing series based around these lifted cars...Wonder how it would do in North America rallying

      Adam Bernard that’s why it’s the best or nothing! Mine tops out $83k with all options and taxes. The car drives like a dream plus it’s very fast.

      Nerver mind the AMG GLC 43 Coupe is 66K and that is with Smart Phone Package, Night Package, AMG Performance Exhaust System. Another one at 63 with only Smart Phone and Surround Sound

    I just don't understand the appeal of less utility, utility vehicles. When the X4 came out I thought it was stupid, still do but the market has spoken so we have more of these things. A wagon is so much better, better handling and more practical.

      I get it. It's the same reason we love 2-seat sport cars and the like. People like sexy design but can't always get by with a 2-door. This is a nice balance.

    Hey Steve. I like this MB SAV. This makes more sense and certainly has a better interior than the BMW X4.

  • @khunopie9159
    @khunopie9159 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    As per Steve's suggestion, I watched his Bmw X4 M40i review after this. I really prefer the BMW's more subtle styling (in auto journalist speak "design language") and interior execution over the more lavish Benz.
    Of some concern was watching Steve get crop dusted by the BMW's revving exhaust.

    The price of the winter tires is what's most surprising to me. 1,200 dollars. Before he said the price, I was expecting a price in the 70s. Typical German car. Everything is an option. His tester didn't even have cooled front seats, so technically wasn't fully loaded.

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true; it didn't. But it had over $15k in extras including every option package.

    Remote start is free for 5 years via the Mbrace app

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah, but it should also be on the fob.

    • @shahulhusman
      @shahulhusman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TestDriveNow Reviews by Auto Critic Steve Hammes increased security means you don't want it on a fob.. Want mb to validate the remote start.. Also if your getting off a plane you want to be able to remote start your car to warm it up, and send it the navigation address to where you want to go.. ;)

    • @JakeDrives1
      @JakeDrives1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Shahul Usman LOL security ? .. My $33,000 Chevy Malibu has it on the key fob and on the app. This SUV is easily double that cost. In reference to the usability I wouldn’t have it any other way than having both options. Sometimes, the key is infinitely quicker and more “at hand” when running in and out of the house etc. but the app is worth the car payment itself up here in NY winters, when my shift is ending at midnight and it’s -30.. I use that app and come out to a comfortable interior! In the matter of security.. I’m no IT specialist but I can see no foreseeable way to “crack” the remote start on the key, app or anything of the sort. Anyway, excellent review Steve. Mercedes Benz has always been a favorite. 😍

    • @venom5809
      @venom5809 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep, my Hyundai Santa Fe has remote start but you have to do it through the app which is terrible and you have to pay for it annually. 90% of the time it won't start in my garage because it can't get signal. I have a company car Nissan Rogue SV on the other hand that I can just start from the fob and it's wonderful, it just works. You should get both systems on cars and the app system should be free also. Shahul, what are you talking about with security, remote starts have been going on cars since the 90s and they have all been the same, if the car is remote started and someone gets in and puts their foot on the brake, the car shuts off, every single system works that way, you can only drive it if you physically have the key on you.

    • @elliottmanning4116
      @elliottmanning4116 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think Remote Start for the most part is an American and Canadian car thing only. Stricter emission regulations in Germany and Asia means no Remote Start.

    Steve - when will Mercedes let you a more conventional GLC? (Their crossover, not the 5-door coupe).

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure. I don't have any other MBUSA products currently on my schedule.

    • @76carmel

      I kinda wonder why Mercedes is putting the AMG badge on the up level engines as compared to the base as compared to the true AMG with much more horsepower (and costing much more than the $74k GLC coupe). I think it’s keeping up with the Joneses with BMW with their alphabet soup name for their X4 M version. Your take?

    • @davidorgun6838
      @davidorgun6838 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Billy Sou I traded my C63s for the GLC43 AMG crossover and it’s very fast! 0 to 60 mph on my C63s 4.0 seconds with best time. My GLC43 did it in 4.2 seconds! Mine is loaded with 21 inch wheel. The V8 is a waste of money and not worth it. Too much wheel spin and it doesn’t get up and move really fast for the power.

  • @kevman949
    @kevman949 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dad has the GLC43 with the 21 inch wheels and tires. Has had 4 flats in 10k miles and you don't even want to know how much MB charges for the tires. Thankfully they finally made some different tires for it, but it's been his most disappointing mercedes.

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow!

    • @davidorgun6838
      @davidorgun6838 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kev erino I have crossover one also! Fully loaded and at 8,469 miles, both front tires started wearing on edges and guess what? I paid $510 for each tire! $1245 our the door for 2 tires!!!! That’s too much and my C63s which I traded for the GLC43 doesn’t wear tire as much. Now the tire I got is nice and less wear. I think Mercedes put junk tires even though it’s continental but not 100% genuine I believe. I love the crossover still.
