    Don's method of creating coil pots is so much better & easier than using an extruder! Love the user-friendly instructions!

    The tip on making a profile guide is great and your technique of coil slamming and cutting are very informative. Just love your process.I wish I have a kiln that can fire such big projects. What size kilns you use?

    What is the liquid? Slip? Could you please list the materials you use such as the wheel, amount of clay etc.
    I assume the pot then goes in a kiln? Or does this clay cure as is?

    Would like to see the coiling process that creates the curves in the design ... in this case you started narrow then built up in a V shape until you rounded off the top. How did you create the V shape and round off top?

      Tooled out a meet coil and dropped it one time to have a flat side to attach to previous coil.

    Hi great video! How to you make the top of the pot curve inward and get smaller?

    • @donhallworks
      @donhallworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      I use progressively shorter coils and press inward.

    Hi Don, when you let the pot dry a bit before adding new coils, is it just for a short amount of time, like less than an hour? Like just enough to barely stiffen up, not close to leather hard, right? And do you ever have issues with the base and lower coils drying out too much by the time you've finished the top? I'm never sure how careful I need to be about making sure all my clay is drying at the same rate. Thanks!

    • @donhallworks
      @donhallworks  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The amount of time between coils varies depending on the wetness of the clay and the temp and humidity in the studio. If it is drying to fast I sprits the piece with water. I try not to add coils so quickly that the bottom slumps. It is a mater of experience to learn when it is ready for another coil. I live in a very hot dry area so I have learned how to build here but where you live it could be completely different. It changes summer to winter here. Normally at 2 foot pot takes about one day.
