"Good & Great" is the title track from Key's newest mini album Good & Great, and including his Japanese album and repackages, this is Key's 6th solo album. "Good & Great" is the beginning of a new style and concept for him.
How I interpret the "Good & Great" lyrics and MV is that Key is experiencing the monotony of life as an average person who spendings every day doing the same things. Like most people, to keep motivated he keeps telling himself, "I'm good, I'm great ..." I should be grateful because I have a job and I'm getting paid. But as we see in the MV, life is a never-ending loop like a character in a game or the robotic life of an office worker. We see him smiling, looking happy as he tells himself that "I'm good, I'm great," but everyone he is interacting with just keeps nodding along until their heads fall off, representing how they are not really being fully engaged in the conversation or whatever task they are trying to complete, etc. Day in and day out life is always the same, we just keep going through our tasks, trying to get ahead, with little to no recognition from anyone except ourselves. Which is why we see in the choreography that he pats himself on the head, because the only encouragement he gets is from himself.
The cute fuzzy red, pink, purple and blue monsters you see in the MV, which are called BOK-SILLee, have sort of become Key's mascot, ever since they were first introduced as part of his Gasoline album merchandise and concept. (You can actually purchase those monsters as little stuffed toys.) In the end of the MV, you see Key dressed like a BOK-SILLee as he tries to break free from the boring life of the working class.
From his outfits to the backup dancers looks, to the set designs and story concept, as well as the song lyrics, and the whole album was designed or chosen by him. Key is involved in the entire creative process when it comes to his solo work and everything you see and hear is what he envisioned for this entire album concept. Every aspect is all part of his design.
When people say, "there is no one or nothing out there like it," they are right. Key is 100% that artist. A legend on par with Taemin's legendary concepts and styles. No wonder they are both members of SHINee.
As you may remember, Key is our fashionista of the group, who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. He is known for really paying attention to detail when it comes to fashion. To Key, fashion is about being unique and looking for ways to stand out, without being outrageous. So, everything you see him wearing will be very trendy and fashionable. Many people in the industry look to Key when it comes to fashion trends. That's also why SM has made him its director of fashion. SHINee is also known for creating fashion trends, so designers really covet a chance to work with any of the members of SHINee -- but especially Key -- because SHINee will give them street cred and undoubtedly make them more popular.
He is also regarded as SHINee's dance copy machine. Key has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. He has a photographic memory when it comes to choreography, so he only needs to watch the dance once and he has it memorized. He is an unbelievably skilled dancer, who can take any dance and make it his own.
And on top of all of that, Key is SHINee's fluent English speaker, and he is almost as good as a native speaker. He is recognized for being one of the best non-native English speakers in the Kpop industry. (In middle school he studied for a short time in Australia and New York. Plus, his grandma had an English tutor when he was growing up.) That is why his pronunciation of the English lines in his songs are so crisp and clear.
As a member of SHINee, Key's amazing vocal range and dance skills shouldn't be surprising, that's just what the members of SHINee are known for. And, not only is Key an amazing singer, but he is also one of SHINee's rappers. How often do you see a rapper with that type of vocal range? That's why SHINee are so highly respected in the industry because almost no one can do it the way SHINee does it.
As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, everything SHINee does is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. Everything the members of SHINee release should be a sound and style you have never heard in Kpop before, because they are the ones who are supposed to introduce the next style and sound to the industry. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last -- including the members solo work -- so you will never hear the same style or sound from Key in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always be very Key-like.
As you are starting to discover, SHINee are known for having some of the best singers in all of Kpop. If you were to listen to Key singing a cappella while performing this intense choreography he would sound just as flawless as in the MV. That is why, even as rookies, senior artists would stop what they were doing to watch SHINee's rehearsals on music programs because SHINee's vocal talent is that impressive and nobody was performing the way SHINee was doing it.
As you know, when SHINee debuted in 2008, all 5 of the members were teenagers -- Key was only 16 -- and they were one of the youngest groups at the time. However, even then, they were shocking everyone with their talent. SHINee was the first group to demonstrate how it was possible to sing live while performing intense choreography and still maintain stable vocals. Before SHINee, the thought within the industry was that it wasn't possible to sing live and also perform high intensity choreography at the same time. At that time, most groups would either sing live and have simple choreography, or they would have crazy cool choreography but lip sync to their recorded vocals. SHINee was the group that changed the industry and proved that if you wanted to compete you needed to up your game.
SHINee are always on another level and they are constantly outdoing themselves with every new project. It amazes me that after more than 15 years SHINee can still continue to reinvent the Kpop industry with every new release, whether it's as a group project or one of the member's solos, and yet they do it every time without fail.
SHINee are the originators and trendsetters of everything you see Kpop groups doing today.
If you enjoyed this, just wait until you hear his other solo songs. Key had his solo debut in 2018, so there is a lot more to check out from him, as well as more than 14 full length SHINee albums, numerous mini albums and hundreds of concert performances -- with 15 years of content to catch up on, you still have a lot more to explore. ;)

Key is the OG triple thread of Kpop industry ❤ Who can sing, rap and dance exceptionally great! As an artist, he has the best album concept, best creative MVs and of course best costume designs.
He owns the retro genre. Here you can see 90s computer, and old video games but his Bad Love and Killer are straight up 80s disco sound ❤
I'm looking forward to your Shinee journey ❤

With this song, Key made people start posting on Tiktok in the challenge not only dancing, but also everything they do, i.e. work, relaxation, walking, running, their pets are just happy and that's what good music should do.
Of course, like each member of SHINee KEY, he also had to mark the presence of all 5 in his solo, although I think only SHAWOLS understood it
    Thank you

Thank you for this reaction. Can’t wait for future ones as well. I’m also Onew biased. His tone is just beautiful, full bodied and unique. Can’t wait for you to react to his work. He has amazing albums, OST’s and some song covers, including an Opera song called Nessum Dorma & a Japanese cover called Rainy Blue which he sang after he had throat surgery. It was an emotional time since he didn’t know if he would be able to sing again.❤

I love this song, and as with many SHINee MVs, I think it has several significant meanings behind it. #1) Whatever we interpret it to be in our own situations about how to overcome the mundane and just be happy. However, I think there are two other interpretations going on:
#2) This year SM went through quite the power struggle resulting in a total "glitch" within the entire company. It was chaos, and many artists ("blue-collar" employees of the "company" were uncertain about their futures or whether or not to stay with the company due to its poor management. I'm not quite sure how stable it is now, but I do know that on 9/12, SHINee as a group decided to renew their contract and are now staying with SM. Many SHAWOLs weren't certain about this, as Key made some comments that caused us to doubt this. On a recent YT show, Key stated that SHINee had, indeed, recently renewed their contract. He further stated that whatever decisions SHINee makes (whether to stay or go), they will always go together. This further cements their strong bond as brothers staying together no matter what comes. (source: th-cam.com/video/l9LF06twjjA/w-d-xo.html )
#3) I also think this plays into the SM Universe -- Kwangya storyline due to the AI elements and dual realities (real vs. SIMS) present in the MV. During the MV, you see that the cute pink "monster" infected Key's company"s computer system with a virus causing the chaos/glitches in the office. In order to fix this Key must find the monster. As you saw in the MV, Key prints out the picture and is able to find the land of the "monster". However, he is happy there, but does return. Upon return, the company has been "rebooted" and everything is back to normal -- or is it? I don't know specifically how this fits into the KWANGYA story because I only follow SHINee and not other groups, but I do know there are AI representatives of all the artists of SM groups and they are against each other.

Good&Great is simply Genius!!! KEY is an incredible solo artist and, in my opinion, he is very close to achieving the “fame” that Taemin currently has as a soloist (remembering that Taemin debuted as a soloist 4 years before KEY)!
The message of the song and the MV is very important for all of us and we have our daily jobs and we often doubt our ability and we often get tired of the monotony...
Thank you very much for the reaction, I'm looking forward to the continuation of the journey through SHINee's MVs, the solos and lives!

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. i like the chorus it's catchy. Loved the makeup and some of the fits. Interesting concept. Sims yes. Loved the tone change. Key is cute when he smiles. This is different than his past songs. Still has retro beat in the back but there is a clear change in sound to me. Also, need to read the lyrics again. Loved hearing ur thoughts. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟

In one of the versions (it's the Cover Letter version) of this album there's this phrase:
"Everyone has their own 'office' where they experience challenging moments, joys, loneliness, and sadness. I sincerely hope you don't face any moments that would make you question your worth and value."
The album and the song, the mv, every detail about them are so well-thought-out. Key makes sure he delivers every single time.
