I missed a bit of the intro, and listened to the whole thing imagining Sidney Greenstreet in the rôle of Lord Cochrane. It was actually the equally redoubtable Cecil Parker, whom I recall fondly from "The Lady Vanishes" (1938 [Hitchcock]) and "The Man in the White Suit" (1951 [with Alec Guinness]).
Oh! This is largely based on facts: there was indeed a Lord Cochrane (1775-1860) whose life, as far as Wikipedia goes, follows the story quite closely.
