    Nongshim Soon ramen is the best vegan ramen. They make all kinds of ramen, so you have to make sure you buy the one with "vegan" on the label, but they are by far the best. They make several vegan flavors that are very good. They are available in Asian grocery stores, Kroger (or whatever version they have where you are), Amazon, and many other stores. I don't know if you have an H Mart near you, but they usually have them. They are also cheaper than most other vegan ramen packets and they are the same price as their other ramen flavors.

    I have tried quite a few of these. One of my favorites, which you did not cover but until recently was easily available from our local Kroger Grocery stores, is Nongshim Soon Veggie Cup Noodle Soup. It is only a little over a dollar per serving. It comes in other vegan flavors as well but those are even harder to find in my area.
    I like Ramen as a soup but when I make a big pot and have leftovers and the noodles absorb all of the broth and get extra swoll I like that too.
    Nissan Top Ramen soy sauce flavor is also pretty good and quite cheap.
    I have been curious about the Public Goods Ramen and various other direct to consumer Ramen products I have seen advertised lately.

    First, I'm with Team Andrew with regard to how noodles are prepared. My preference is that foods not drip while eating. For those who love soups and broths, perhaps its not objectionable. For me, even when I do eat soup, my preference is for a thicker consistency. With regard to ramen specifically, I've always found that the seasoning packets were loaded with salt and MSG. During those rare occasions when I've prepared ramen I've discarded the flavor packets and created my own, sans the MSG and less salt.

  • @LadyK70
    @LadyK70 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I like mine the same way Andrew does. I like it in a more pasta type of texture not so soup like. I want to taste the flavors more in the pasta than the broth. I feel like the broth dilutes the flavor too much for me.

  • @Maiasatara
    @Maiasatara 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Ok shockingly I’m with Andrew on this one. I’ve always prepared them by cooking the noodles and draining 95% of the water and sprinkling a portion of the seasoning packet on them. Technically it’s a version of “dry noodles” even though they are moist. The difference is they aren’t SOUP Noodles. That’s also why you can’t use the whole seasoning packet that comes with a soup noodle (ramen typically is soup) because it’s meant for all the broth. Lo mein is a dry noodle. Ramen is a soup noodle. I’m 100% dry noodle and will NEVER slurp, even if I’m visiting a country where it’s ok. It’s not ok with me lol.

    Kind of a longer comment here - I have tried the Lotus Foods Jade Pearl Rice Ramen Wakame Miso Soup. I do NOT like seaweed BUT I like the green colored noodles... so I cook them with a touch of No-Chicken Broth and maybe I add my own miso or even bulk up my own broth with garlic powder whatever. I actually throw away the seasoning packet in nearly every ramen convenience package I buy and make a healthier broth anyway. The green noodles are rice based with bamboo for green color. It is so fun/pretty to cook them, drain off broth and cool for salads, Buddha bowls, or one of the colorful fillings for a rice based wrap, etc. They also make a Forbidden Rice one and the noodles look black but cook out to be a pretty purple from the black colored forbidden rice. I toss that spice package too. Lotus also sells those noodles 'squares' in packs of 4 or 5 without the broth packets but I can not always find those in the stores. This was just a tip about using the noodles in other ways and I know some folks (thinking of Andrew here...*chuckle*) would not like the idea of buying something only to throw away part of it. But when I can not find the noodles by themselves that is what I do.

    I like the Lotus brand instant ramen and it's gluten-free too (which means I can eat it even with allergies). I usually use the Samabila seasoning instead of the one that comes with the packet. I like the Korean-style Beef Ramen they sell, and it's vegan too. I like Ocean's Halo Seaweed Snacks.

    Oh man the soy sauce Top Ramen took me back to high school. Also, if you do more taste tests these are my recommendations:
    Muso Organics - Miso and Shoyu* are the flavors they have. This ramen is in a light brown packet and says vegan right on the front. I get it at Wegmans, but I think it’s at some WholeFoods as well. On the pricey side but it’s a big serving.
    Koyo Ramen makes really good noodles and they have a bunch of different flavors. As far as I’m aware their entire line is vegan. I get it from a local grocery store chain, but it’s available in select Walmarts and WholeFoods.
    Sun Noodle Ramen Kit - has different flavors, but I know the miso and shoyu kind are vegan. It’s not an instant ramen - in fact it’s found in the refrigerator/freezer sections at WholeFoods or Wegmans - but it’s really good. The noodles have a slight eggy taste, but it’s just baking soda. I’ve made homemade noodles in the past with baking soda and I was surprised that it tasted that way. I can assure you their noodles are vegan, even if it doesn’t seem like it.
    *Shoyu = Japanese soy sauce

    Your Family is blessed!!!!!!
    I have to use a measuring cup to measure the water I'm supposed to use. Or I put it right above the noodles because I don't like for it to be too watery because I want to get the full flavor of the broth. I get upset if I weaken the broth and then I got to fix it. What if I'm out and can't fix it, anyways. Little water at first then add a little more if the broth is good. Anyways I love YOUR channel!!!!!!!!!

    I grew up eating ramen raw (yes, as in uncooked) as a snack. If I ever ate it cooked, I never did the broth. I never read the directions because I just "learned" how to cook ramen from my older siblings. I actually did not know that ramen was supposed to be in a broth until after college, when I began working with Japanese -- and I finally read the directions, haha. That's also when I discovered soba (much better, imo, and I thus no longer eat ramen). I still cook ramen for my hub, always sans broth. I usually reserve the flavor packets (from the top ramen soy sauce flavored) for sprinkling on veggies. I highly recommend pan frying ramen (that's been softened, like in a 30-min water soak, and then drained) & then adding ½ jar (or a full jar, depending on how much ramen youre using) that the flavor packet (or packets) has been mixed into. I say it's a "ramen omelette" (but there could be another word for it -- I just came up with it years back, though I'm sure others have cooked similar before).

  • @alovelywalk88

    Ok, oceans halo chicken flavor is my favorite But you do have to doctor it up hood style, ok. I add more water than recommended, because of the fact that the noodles soak up a lot of the water. 2. Throw some vegan butter in that thang, ok!! 3. I add black pepper, garlic and onion powder, & paprika. And boom! Chefs kiss! 😂😂

      @@MakeItDairyFree Lighting the both of you at once might come down to some tricks with after effects/color correction because black and white people require different temperatures/hues to shine right. There are short videos on the cinematography of Moonlight that might help along with basic color theory (blue/orange, red/green, purple/yellow). You also need the light source to come from an ideal direction.
