I didn't start watching F1 until 2011 when I was already in my 30's. Now that I see and hear what the older cars did, I think I should have started much earlier.
Mate, just head to the BOSS GP or one of those hillclimb with F3000 cars. I have to say though, the V12s of the 90s used to put goosebumps on my goosebumps.
The FIA need to watch this video, and maybe they will realize everything they have done wrong. I'm sorry, but V6's are a joke. This is what we need. We need the V10 era to come back.
It's great that you get to relive the classic V10 (and V12) sound again, I still remember the times I was at the Adelaide and Montreal races in the early 90's and they indeed were extremely loud and sometimes so loud that you feel the vibration through your whole body from the sound.
I wish for Formula 0 or Formula Infinity (whatever sounds best). Where major and minor companies make the most neck-breaking car they can and in the future the upgrades and the next years car COULD ONLY be aerodynamically different since the bar for performance is set so high. I think if anyone complained about engine sound - They have not been watching 19Bozzy92 or MPZRaceVideo.
F Zero GP, just to one up the FIA pricks. Only max vehicle size constraints (length, width, height), no limits on down force and power output. Also no minimum weight. DRS is always available (not for passing only) and functions as an air brake under heavy braking (see fighter aircraft if you don't understand). There's a lot that can be done with this, we just need to make sure we don't get a Ferrari or Porsche using their "influence" to make rules that favor them, thus putting us in the same situation F Zero was created to get out of.
Exactly, and If all goes well maybe Murray Walker will commentate again (probably not) and we can hear what he thinks of the new "Bloodsport". I imagine JUDD engines will be a major partner of most teams. I'm sure Williams would like to win one more GP and I'm sure all the other teams wouldn't mind a clean race for once.
The V10's really sounded amazing, but with the new exhaust regulations, the V8's sound good too. I went to a race this year and it reminded me of old times.
I went to the Brazilian GP twice, 2004 and 2006. In 2006 the V8s were already in place and Toro Rosso (Liuzzi/Speed) was running a rev-limited V10 that still sounded WAY BETTER than the V8s; sounded deeper and throatier. The V10s were freaking BRUTAL in the Interlagos straightline and particularly the Honda V10 of Sato/Button was loud as fuck. The V6 turbo must be such a dissapointment in person.
The fact is that we are conditioned by previous engines, like v10s. The v6t aren’t bad, they just don’t seem for formula 1 cars to us, cause we have been used to associate f1 to screaming cars. That’s why everyone that watched f1 before this era, finds new engines like vacuum cleaners. V6t doesn’t sound bad, but different
I think V10s sound a bit richer than V12s; the V12 is an inherently balanced configuration and thus sounds a lot more plain. You also get major thirds in the sound spectrum of even-firing V10s (5:1, 5:2, and 5:4 frequency ratios) whereas with V12s you get perfect fifths (3:1, 3:2) which you also get in V6s, I6s and I3s. Odd firing V10s have even more interesting features in the sound spectrum.
@@jasonkuy7100 Well look at Abu Dhabi with Alonso's R25 test. Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) stopped what they were doing to see and hear that glorious sound without any rev limiters where you could actually hear the car before you see it. So yeah, I'd mainly watch F1 for the sound, but if it has really good action then I may watch it once in a while. But I stopped after 2017 when I knew it was just going to be Lewis and Mercedes dominance.
not only does it sound chilling when the cars drive past.... but when they're gone and you can hear the screams in the far distant background!!! SYMPHONYY
omg that v10 sounds even better now than it did on tv! waaaaay better than the v8. which both sound much muuuuch better than the most uncharacteristic v6 turbo shits.

At 1:54, I think it’s a full automatic gearbox of the 2002 season, you can listen how much that gearbox is so intelligent, the very better gear at the very precise moment of the condition and speed. This is why 3 gears thought so fast at this moment 1:54
In 2009 i believe the boss GP came to Spa-Francorchamps and i was there and it was amezing! But why won't they come back to Spa? Nice vid, really enjoyed the sound ;D.
where can I watch this? is it on tv somewhere, or are there any streams? this is probably more exiting than F1 right now(2014). this looks like what F1 should be, a sports by petrol heads for petrol heads IMHO
At 1:53 there is a funny sound I never heard, by mistake he downshifted instead of upshifting and then upshitfted twice to correct, nice demonstration of the engine low rotational inertia, it changed rpm so fast.
oh GREAT, now after watching this (post 2014 australian GP) I can't (and wont) go back to watching another crossbreed vacumcleener meets fart v6 turbonerfed F1 race. GG thanks for that, and gg bernie for allowing this.
Agree. I'll admit, i haven't been to an F1 race in V10 era, but I have done a couple of times during V8 times and they were absolutely fantastic, that noise was just staggering! I was planning on going to Silverstone again this year, but after hearing (or rather not hearing) those new engines...I changed my mind. It's a great shame. Thankfully there are still other racing series with "normal" engines :D
The thing is, Bernie admitted in his interview at Bahrain with Martin Brundle, that he didn't like the V6's, but stopped short of saying what he would like FIA to do. Me? I'm V10 through and through.
Yes some of them converted the original engine to a Judd V8 or V10, which is more durable. The Jaguar R5 uses the original Cosworth V10 and the Arrows uses the Asiatech V10 which is now restricted to 15000 rpm for more durability. Normally there is also a late 90's Tyrell in this series which also uses a Cosworth V10.
Listen to this guy. I never understood top fuel racing, because on TV, it's pretty dull. You gain a whole new appreciation for the actual power and speed involved when to try to watch a car move from a stop to 100mph in 0.8 seconds. I say 'try' to watch, because the sound waves are so strong they vibrate your eyes and make everything blurry. No joke.
I agree, even when I saw Superleague Formula a lower category then F1 obviously @ Brands Hatch a few years ago they where using V12's and although only revving upto about 12,000rpm and not 18,000 like F1's do I personally found them louder!
Just listening to these sounds give me goosebumps. Screw the FIA with those ridiculous turbo engines for 2014. This is the second time since 2006 that the engines change drastically and both weren't better than what it used to be. And F1 should reduce costs according to the FIA ... than stop changing the rules every year!
Whiny baby?..You clearly never experiences the chest-pounding backfires of these engines, and this "whine" was in pure resonance with your spine.....epic!
I thought v10 were reduced to v8 in 2010 or 2011. it also sounded like there were other engine types on the track as well. Is this a kind of FIA historic championship or something?
nothing like the screaming of a V10 at 18000 rpm, goosebumps everywhere
I'm watching this with earphones at full volume. And I have goosebumps. Still doesn't beat being at the track watching it!
Robert K if v6 can do this i will watch
What a magical sound the V10's are. Too bad we have vacuum cleaners racing these days.
Haha. I completely agree. They sound like broken hedge trimmers.
The sounds aren't so bad
I hope nobody watches it. Otherwise it's unlikely to change. I don't, and won't unless it improves.

The best sound of the F1 history
Personally like the DFV (Double Four Valve) Ford Cosworth era more.

The music of the engine is pure eargasm

this sound still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it
Give us back the V10...!!!!!
The best F1 sound EVER...!!!!!!!
cant we create our own fia, and create our own formula 1, back to 2002 / 2004, when records were broken ?
And when Red Bull was just an energy drink? XD

V10 engines had the best sound! Not like the crap V6 now...
No way.. The V12's had the best sound!! Followed by the 10's, then the 8's.. The new turbo V6's do sound pretty pedestrian : (.
bliglum V10s sounded better than the V12s in my opinion. And even louder.
