I love KWS. And I could watch him noodle around all day. Just love his tone and his style. Say what you want, but I think he's one of the best to listen to and learn from.
A have a lot of respect for Kenny, he inspired me to continue playing guitar when I almost gave up on it.To me he is one of the best players out there.
Yeah, I gotta say It also happens to me. By the way, imo the greatest thing about playing guitar is to be soulful and have great ears, specially if you're a blues/funk player.
Pedro Poyares agree. I literally just told my wife u see certain people graduating from a certain prestigious music school and they can play but SOME I SAID SOME of them have no soul or feeling. Just sterile. Greatest advice my teacher gave me was u gotta put more feeling into it when I used to take lessons.
i agree with you, i started very young i am now almost at 30 years playing, a diploma in classical, i know music but i've learnt to forget about rules, once James Brown said something like if it sounds good to you that means it is good and it's all you need to know.
Not sure I agree. It's better to have a large vocabulary, even if you speak very little. That is different than not learning as much as you can and only playing a few things you know. Since you have 30 years of playing, you likely fall into the first category. I think you are trying to say, focus on a few things and master them to sound soulful. I would agree with that, and I'll add, slow down. Especially with the blues, don't rush it. Let the music play and compliment it- don't just play a million soulless notes all over the neck just because you know a scale or two. Also, when you slow down and play less, you can focus on targeting your notes to match the chord changes.
Outstanding. Almost makes me feel like giving up lol. Pentatonic scales there are variations but I don't what they're called. Yaay, a famous axeman who's just like the rest of us. So refreshing.
Good stuff. Lot of respect for Kenny. Good lay out of fundamentals. The difference with open strings and Interesting insight of his ear of resolving a pattern on a lower note... good stuff, shown clear... too. Wish more good players would relax and explain their licks, reasoning as well as show the licks. 5 star -plus, I do like his stuff
Kenny is a great player ! He gives great instructions here. I wonder what he would call the guitar work on our Blues Rock song 2 Shots 2 Beers You're Good that's posted.
I love how after all these years he still doesn’t know what scales he using, but sounds amazing! Gives guys like me hope. Just play what sounds good. 👌
Sitting here smiling, big-time. Love SRV and KWS!!! Don't understand what's wrong with Eric, Evan and Warrior??? There's not a whole lot to unlike in these 14 minutes... Guess just can't please everybody. Kenny, keep it up!!!
Evan Pete He doesn't know musical theory. It's been one of the things I love about him and inspires me. I don't know much musical theory either, but still love to play.
i love his music but i cannot stand when people say no one can touch his playing and one even comes close to how good he is and so on and so fourth. even tho i love kws music joe bonamassa is the guitar king right now and has brought guitar back from near death and blues
Everyone has a different ear though. I can't stand Bonamassa, and I've tried to like him I've even seen him live. He doesn't do it for me in the slightest. To my ear KWS is far superior. I would even say as an out and out blues guitarist John Mayer trumps Bonamassa. Bonamassa always sounds to me like a heavier rock guitarist who found a little niche with the blues.
+Benoleary Buddyboy his last 2 albums have some amazing blues music and the songs are all original to. so bonamassa even tho isn't old school he can play traditional blues easily just listen to blues deluxe that he covers. but the reason why i love bonamassa is because he is a titan guitar player that plays all kinds of styles, very generous with his music and made it on his own when it comes to fame. john mayers regular music is pop noise to me and he even took lessons from bonamassa so ask mayer who he thinks is an amazing guitar player and who trumps who. i love kws tho man his stuff rocks!!
Everyone hears music differently. Bonamassa doesn't do it for me. For me the only song he has done that hits the mark is his cover of so many roads, I still prefer peter greens version though. If Mayer answered honestly who was better he would say himself definitely. Funnily enough I was watching a bit of Bonamassa today and he just hasn't got it (my opinion ). Just to clarify, if you offered me the chance to win the lottery or play guitar like Bonamassa, I would pick guitar like Bonamassa every time. I could play such good blues with his talent.
+Benoleary Buddyboy well in all honesty none of these guys play traditional blues like Robert Johnson stuff or muddy waters music. bonamassa can play so many styles of blues but he chooses to not be completely the same or cliché like a lot of the guitar players out today! i have heard a million srv style players and bb king players but bonamassa has molded all styles and makes such killer music. the only thing is bonamassa never claimed to be authentic blues or traditional
3:30 “I don’t know what scale this is called ... I use it frequently outside of the pentatonic” proceeds to play e major pentatonic lol 😂 seriously shows doesn’t matter how little theory you know just as long as you know what to play and how to do it with soul you’re good 👌🏾
IMO, you really need to do up and down strokes when you do a "Texas shuffle". In fact SRV did up and down, and you can tell the difference. It doesn't swing when you do all down strokes.
For all the comments and SRV comparisons... SRV was amazing but.... Kenny is a better songwriter.... Good guitar work means little if you don't have good songs to go with it. I love SRV too... I simply don't get Bonnamassa much as I've tried to like him
And he always throws in "this is my sig guitar, my wife drew this" it's a cross...my niece can draw that... probably why nobody bought that guitar...ugly, big fat frets, to big for the neck, pickups-ehhhh!!!
Nothing really special though I guess.. any guitar store has a kid playing like this nowadays.. If I wanna listen to this style I just go to the souce..SRV. dont get me wrong I like some kws stuff.. but It is rather carbon copy and he says he makes it his 'own' but not really. this may aswell be tommy katona. and lastly hes a musician. he should want to know this or that scale is...
I love KWS. And I could watch him noodle around all day. Just love his tone and his style. Say what you want, but I think he's one of the best to listen to and learn from.
Katie go check Philip Sayce and you’ll open your eyes to a whole new world of the word best
^ get em outta here
shawn McCoin That was creepy you old fuck
A have a lot of respect for Kenny, he inspired me to continue playing guitar when I almost gave up on it.To me he is one of the best players out there.
One of the most underrated guitar player ever! In my opinion is the SRV of XXI century
This guy is an exceptional player
this guy is an amazing player
What? Lol he's a hell of a guitarist... Just grateful he wants to share all this shit with us yuh know?
After 30 years of playing I am convinced the less you know, the more soulful player you are.
Yeah, I gotta say It also happens to me. By the way, imo the greatest thing about playing guitar is to be soulful and have great ears, specially if you're a blues/funk player.

This why I like Kenny. A great guitar player that's self-taught and doesn't know a lot of theory. Just loves to play. I'm the same way.
I don't know why it's a laudable thing like its cooler not to know the theory behind what you're playing.
Outstanding. Almost makes me feel like giving up lol. Pentatonic scales there are variations but I don't what they're called. Yaay, a famous axeman who's just like the rest of us. So refreshing.
Best blues guitarist since Stevie and Gary
Would love him as a guitar teacher ..hes awesome. !!!!! ..
Yep! Saw him live a few weeks ago with Van Halen. He was on fire!
Saw him live last night. This guy is the closest you will get to seeing srv live out of a guitarist today
Kenny and Jesse Davey are the two that really seem to nail the essence IMHO
Kenny's phrasing is the best. It's up there with all the top greats.
Good stuff. Lot of respect for Kenny. Good lay out of fundamentals. The difference with open strings and Interesting insight of his ear of resolving a pattern on a lower note... good stuff, shown clear... too. Kenny is great player !!!

Thanks Kenny!
Incredible.
my favorite blues guitar player
Excellent, KWS rules, he use with perfection his own style of blues.
I love how after all these years he still doesn’t know what scales he using, but sounds amazing! Gives guys like me hope. Just play what sounds good. 👌
wow is that a rosewood neck with a maple fingerboard? he flipped the script
+ThEiLLtechNICIAN awsome
haha awesome!!
It's just a Maple cap.
Beautiful guitar.
8:30 the relative major scale
without the 7th i believe
awesome awesome guitar player :) love his music
he's so great, he's got his very own tone too
rosewood neck with maple fretboard attached? wow!
Hard to tell but it might be a Purple Heart neck with Birdseye Maple fretboard.
Yea I was wondering what the deal was with that neck too. It’s definitely not the stock neck on the KWS strat
Jeremy Dankiw you can get something like that rn in the Fender rarities collection
Man KWS you are good . And Noah you too .
Dude can rip! Billy Gibbons uses those opens a lot too.
Hey Man! You have been digging deep that Vaughan Brothers stuff.
Sitting here smiling, big-time. Love SRV and KWS!!! Don't understand what's wrong with Eric, Evan and Warrior??? There's not a whole lot to unlike in these 14 minutes... Guess just can't please everybody. Kenny, keep it up!!!
Rosewood neck with maple fretboard. Impressive!. Rosewood or mahogany? Pretty neat
does anyone know what he uses to get that tone? would love to know as im trying to get it myself
What settings , amp ,pedal/s ? Please excuse my ignorance ..
Great vid
this guys a great talent
It's called the pentatonic major scale. Without the half steps it's the pentatonic minor scale.
Anyone know the scale he starts at 8:49???
Thanks Kenny
Best guitarist current today.thanks!
lol no
you cant be the best guitarist today if you dont even know what the scales are called
not that he isnt great, cuz he is, but still
joe bonamassa destroys kenny wayne beyond
Evan Pete
He doesn't know musical theory. It's been one of the things I love about him and inspires me. I don't know much musical theory either, but still love to play.
+Tony cugliri yeah he was awesome
Whattafuckinamazing tone

Wow, thanks!
CWS is a great player....if you think so you owe it to yourself to check out a guy named Fred Chapellier...a French bluesmaster
What amp are you using ?
❤
3:30 “I don’t know what scale this is called ... I use it frequently outside of the pentatonic” proceeds to play e major pentatonic lol 😂 seriously shows doesn’t matter how little theory you know just as long as you know what to play and how to do it with soul you’re good 👌🏾
Wall of denial 11:15
Really about as straight forward as a lesson into style and approach as you could get.
Jimmy never played a song the same way twice ether
that wasn't 2 or 3 different versions of pentatonic Kenny, looked to be the dorian mode. Great demo though man, thanks for this :)
Paul Cox yeah!!
and a "pentatonic with in between notes", is just the relative major scale :) anyway, he's one of the best
Paul Cox The point is...he doesn't care. He plays. Do the same.
Yeah, let the ear judge. What sounds good is good.
KWS The reason i do not have one solid teacher....
Exactly how a Strat should sound
IMO, you really need to do up and down strokes when you do a "Texas shuffle". In fact SRV did up and down, and you can tell the difference. It doesn't swing when you do all down strokes.
James Brown!
il arrache !
Can't believe he only knows the standard minor pentatonic for soloing
For all the comments and SRV comparisons... SRV was amazing but.... Kenny is a better songwriter.... Good guitar work means little if you don't have good songs to go with it. I love SRV too... I simply don't get Bonnamassa much as I've tried to like him
?
I sold that strat,know
Its I k

And he always throws in "this is my sig guitar, my wife drew this" it's a cross...my niece can draw that... probably why nobody bought that guitar...ugly, big fat frets, to big for the neck, pickups-ehhhh!!!
xD he doesnt know the name of the major scale
Nothing really special though I guess.. any guitar store has a kid playing like this nowadays..
