I think VTuned has all the intentions of making that Mustang a notchback, but the defects that he saw in it made him scrap it. He wants his build to be safe as well as stylish.

I'm 65 years old and I started helping build frames for circle track cars at 9 years old and moved on into the Auto body, Frame, Suspension, Uni-structure and paint field my whole career and I've never seen anyone build a frame way he does! When he started chopping this car apart and building the new structure I never dreamed he would get this far but it looks like he's going to keep trying until he get's it ! I don't have a bad thing to say about him! He's not afraid to get his hands dirty and try! I may not agree with his methods but it looks to me like he's going to make it work! The only part of the 65 coupe that got scrapped is part of the shell, the rest of it will be Garage art!
As a chassis builder the objective is clear. Its gotta steer, its gotta stick, its gotta stop, and its gotta protect. Reaching or exceeding the objectives in ways and methods some find unorthodox are far to often labeled as wrong. Theres no wrong.Only different.Like telling a Grizzly bear he needs 5 grand worth of camping stuff and a guide to fish for salmon.A classic example of " Not wrong.Just different. You learned advanced problem solving in it's most effective form on the track.The silent trips back home after having your butt presented to you in kit form .You must have some crazy cool moments to share..
Most kids his age are playing video games all day and wont even mow thier parents lawn much less know how to wrench on a car! i painted my first truck before i was old enough to drive and rebuily my 77 Chevys 350 engine at 17 and it ran till i sold it and the kid i sold it too drove it to the same high school in west texas i graduated from! I watch all these kids from Tenn Danny Tv the dude that only has one arm the Goon squad and this guy V Tuned, im so mad we didnt have you tube back in my day in the early 80s
Well said. Every time someone jumps in a comment thread and starts criticizing, I want to ask "What have you built lately?" I learned how to make things by making things, screwing it up and learning from that experience. I'm not an expert but I've built engines, repaired steel & fiberglass bodywork, built my all-joinery, no-metal dining room table and a bunch of other things. If I was afraid to get my hands dirty, I'd be broke from all of the "experts" I would have had to pay. I'd rather have something that's 95% as good as what a pro would do that I made myself.

They were making a replica of the movie car. This is the wrong year. If you build it with a stock body you can name it Eleanor. or Sally.
I dont think so, i think they have the name copyrighted on any mustang regardless of model.
@@alshotrodsandratrods8780 If you actually look at the Eleanor that is owned by the Lady who owns the Copyright on the name, it is actually not the same car as B is for Build where making. It is solely to do with calling a Mustang Eleanor. That copyright infringement should never have gone anywhere. It was from the original Gone in 60 seconds, not the remake with Nicholas Cage.
That car was a 1967. This one is a 1965. Different cars.

I would get a strut brace that runs from one tower to the other that would help in the alignment of your struts before you final weld it! IMO, Love the build! :)
And it would align the angles correctly.

@@dansanders7996 Back in the day, these cars couldn't be sold in Europe as is- the strut brace you are revering is called a European strut. It will do a lot of what you said, but I'm doubtful it would tie quite the same with the strut tower it self. There are also some torque boxes for the space between the forward engine/suspension bearers and the firewall end of the sill reinforcements. The welded in additional brace across the floor (under the seats) from the convertible is also a good conventional way to increase the Hp capacity of early "Stangs- it looks like you are fabricating your own floor, so that is likely not relevant. Awesome work! I was wondering what you were going to do come W/S and rear glass time! Don't worry too much about your rate of progress- this crowd seems a lot like the crowd Bad Obsession Motorsports has for their Binkie Project- now in it's fifth season, and 33rd episode. Quality over mere production!It's time to meet the rest of the vTuned troops!

@@1one3_Racing Amateur, worked on two Mustangs of my own a couple of decades ago- all the repop panels and such weren't available- you went to the wrecking yard and bought as little of the chassis as you could and then cut one up to fix your "true love". I thought that the three inches to not cut the dash was a bridge too far- $1000 W/S are not a vTuned sort of thing!

Btw, LOVE the classy piece of steel plate, drilled with 3 holes, then welded not butted to but laid over top of the tubing and welded... looks amazing

He cut the original Mustang in half to widen the body. What difference does it make that someone spliced the front end on 25 years ago? I guess since he got the parts for free it doesn't matter. Is he going to cut the new body in half to widen that? Thank you for the video sir.

@Duke It depends on the condition the Mustang you buy is, I guess. If you buy a pile of junk of course it might need more work than building a Mustang from scratch.

He might have to apply for a custom VIN. Rules and regulations depend on the state. Here in NC its next to impossible.

@Esteban Rodriguez I would agree with a unibody car but not with one that's framed. Did you see the size of square tubing he used for the chassis? That thing is built better than the frame on an F-350.

Your frame seems to be making tight quarters around the engine. That might make working on the engine, changing plugs, removing valve covers, etc., quite challenging in the future.
Easy fix, take the engine out.

I can only imagine how much you've spent on just trial and error, but not a lot of people can say they've even built a go kart from the ground up nonetheless a whole car, keep up the amazing work
We all have to learn somewhere. The next build imagine what learnings he'll apply! Sometimes the builds don't make financial sense either, it's just for the love of it. Nice work vtuned!

This was 100% the best move. I was never keen on the cut down the middle and the notch back has been blown out the park by Hoonicorn. Fast Back is original and I’m really looking forward to seeing this finished now. 😉👌🏻

Why would it be an issue to fix those welds? You were already planning on welding the two halves of the car..
The welds were the LEAST of his issues. The biggest issue was that he was trying to fit the new Mustang dash in the old chasi. He cut the chasi without considering that he would have to get custom glass, fabricate a new grill and trunk lid, plus all the complicated seams where the windshield and rear glass goes. On top of that the comments pointed out that he seems to be inexperienced in frame building; which when you add it all up it kinda makes sense to go with a whole new setup so that at least when the engine falls out when you're driving down the road he'll know if it was his fault or not.

@@canadianentertainment I don't think it's that it's hard to fix. I think its cause he was building his frame based on the dimensions of the body and stuff. If the rest of the car was there to keep it all together then sure, not too bad to fix

This is a lot like the Alec Steele channel, its all pland out step by step, what to do how to do it and yet you always end up redoing 80% of all the work about 3 to 4 times over. Hahaha love it its the best way to learn and we get to learn out of your mistakes saving us the time hahaha great job with the STANG A RANG

I thought about this for a minute....then I realized that he must of gotten a really good deal on the new kit plus he realized he'd save 100 man hours by doing this. He owes us a brief explanation but man I'm all for saving a ton of time and expense if it makes sense.

I'm glad you've actually ditched the idea of widening it from the centerline. You made all the correct course corrections for that this will be a GREAT build!!
@Ben Jones the car was to be widened 2 inches on the centerline. You can still use the original glass ,just put it in the center of the hole and make the windshield posts an inch wider on each side to compensate .then do the same on the back. If done properly , and he can, you got to be a real mustang buff to even notice.

Will have to go for even wider A pillar, adding a whole lot of unescessary complexity for minimal or for what benefit, exactly?... Now that he retain the stock 67 body, the widenning will be much more BADASS/dramatic, being solely done by the outside fenders themselves. if he goes for the 2015 mustang dash which I beleive he said he was doing, other builders already have proven that to be doable with minor trimming. So Chassis/suspension/Metal Shell, Glass, Dash all sorted, while staying true to the original 67 proportions, which is, at least in my book, the sole point of the whole exercise
The amount of time he has spent on this is crazy. He has restarted from the chassis prob 3+ times. Getting really good experience.

This is just my opinion, but as someone who works on classics, it was in tough shape and more than likely was destined to be a parts car. Floors were shot had a lot of panel rust and filler and to top it off it had just been through a fire. I'm sure he will use trim and other pieces from the car so it will not be wasted.
It was two cars put together, the car was basically hacked together by the previous owner or so🤷🏻♂️

This is good, better looking and it's basically a new car, but it pains me to know that the original mustang just got totally scrapped, like he cut it to pieces and junked it!
The body he had wasn't really 100% original, as it appears to be a donor front end poorly grafted onto a car that had it's front end demolished in a collision.
Badly welded A pillars are a serious problem.
Working from entirely new body panels will give a better fitting body than trying to fix one that is not straight to start with.
Every custom car needs a vin donor , don't feel sorry for the old half and half body. The heart of the red car and the vin of the 66 , IT LIVES !

Love the fastback way better than the coupe. When I was a kid my brothers had a 65 Mustang fastback 2 + 2 for speed. Ran 13.90s in the quarter-mile bone stock. Had a 289

Man if I was a little kid I would have been in heaven if I had been able to get my hands on all those cardboard boxes, I coulda built a cardboard box mansion or entire city!!! Kids these days under estimate the entertainment value of a big cardboard box. 🤣📦🤣

My two boys would be in heaven! They love any cardboard box we get at home regardless of size because like you said they turn instantly into forts and bases. Good stuff!

Fun Guy 365 well you buy a body kit, build/buy a tube frame, add a donor engine/drivetrain and suspension and there you have it. A kit car.
@@bradkraus5217 So you would rather use a spliced original mustang which is 99% less safe than what it originally was? nice.
@@kanggoo57 if you're running it in stock form I would worry about the splices and structural integrity being a unibody in all. However, where this has a full frame under it now and the frame and the cage are supporting the weight of the vehicle, the sheet metal is just cosmetic. Where it was cut and spliced did not matter unless they welded it in crooked.
I have built a frame for a mustang before. I would recommend widening the main rails that run in the cockpit all the way against the inner rockers and then run two rails where the tunnel would be so you car get your modern seats low enough, and it gets your center of gravity low too for handling.
I'm not an engineer, but I would totally put those front suspension tower plates angled, sitting on top of the exterior tube, going down the interior tube. That way alignment with the suspension axis would look practically perpendicular. KEEP the good work vTuned!
When you are finished you will have a, "Master of Automotive Engineering Degree", all self taught! vTuned, a "Legend".

Loved the original design and concept but now it’s going to be yet another Eleanor interpretation. Putting a 68 body on to a new mustang would have been pretty neat. Your MIG skills are insane!!
