This generation today won’t understand how these two teams don’t like each other at all back then. It was a bloody brawl each game. It was like a football team going against a big group of cons/thugs/biker like players. We need a rivalry like this in today’s NFL. But football has gone weak with rivalries. Ravens-Steelers and Seahawks-Niners ok I get it. But this kind of rivalry with the chiefs-raiders. It’s not geographical or anything. It was like a war. Period. With cheap shots, threats outside of the field, etc
Raiders got beat fair and square by the Jets, so didn’t belong in SB3. Raiders lost in the playoffs to eventual champions 1967-70, 73-75. And the immaculate reception in ‘72 couldn’t have happened to a nicer team. Always have hated the Raiders.
At 1:05 of this video Ben Davidson stated that Buck Buchanan's throwing of George Blanda to the turf "rubbed some of the Raiders the wrong way." Davidson is the LAST player who should be saying anything about cheap-shotting a QB. The year before (1970) on the exact same turf, Davidson used the crown of his helmet to spear a defenseless Len Dawson (lying on his stomach) in the small of his back, which precipitated a bench-clearing brawl. Even some of Davidsons teammates thought his actions were out of line. His teammate Tom Keating jokingly stated: "Ben hitting the QB as he was getting into his car with his girlfriend post-game, was not a late hit to Ben.". The hit that Buchanan put on Blanda happened right in front of me at old Municipal Stadium and I thought Blanda's career might be over. Fortunately he bounced back and remained in the game. Personally, I was glad Blanda was OK, as I'm not a fan of cheap shots period, regardless of what teams are involved.
The only thing that the Raiders and Chiefs have in common is that both teams had their ass handed to em by Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl but the Raiders actually put up an effort.
These two teams did not like each other. A true rivalry. It's forgotten in today's game

Unfortunately the Raiders did not play in Super Bowl 3 or 4. However, I agree the Raiders would have beat the Colts and the Vikings.
