- Join JP Hunts and Mike as they Metal Detect a Cavalry Camp near the Battle of Boonsboro, Maryland. Almost 250 bullets, buttons, cavalry brass, and more. Hope you enjoy. God bless!!!
Awesome guys!!!
I did have to smile when someone mentioned "lunch." When you're digging relics, lunch isn't taken until 9-10 p.m. If then. Digging since 1976. But enjoyed it. :)
Thanks for watching. God bless. -JP Hunts
Wow what a location!!! I live in Sheptown and civil war relics but never any thing like that. Congratulations
It was fun. Thanks for watching and God bless!! - JP Hunts
NICE FINDS BOYS
Thank you!!! God bless. -JP Hunts
What a permission. Envious. Congratulations
A blessing for sure.. God Bless. JP Hunts
The chain may be part of a curb bit chain used on cavalry , dragoon or artillery bridle . Good dig .
Thanks for the suggestion. We actually discovered what it was. It’s to small to be a curb chain. It’s actually a Cape chain. Thanks for watching. God bless. JP
Metal detectorists in the USA are so happy with so little, 150 years, wow. In the UK the find stuff from 2000 years .
Yes we are, especially when it comes from such a historic event in our country’s history such as the American Civil War. God Bless. JP Hunts
OMG! What a honey hole. That would be an incredibly fun spot to detect. Congratulations.
It was. Thanks for watching and commenting. God bless. -JP Hunts

Makes you wonder how they had any bullets left to fight with, considering all they dropped.

I may catch some flack for saying this but you guys need to lease that property if you can. Clearly you have found a fairly virgin spot that is going to require many, many, visits to properly dig as much as you can save. Unless you are a close friend of the owner or relative, how many times are you going to be welcomed back? Sometimes you can get very lucky with a door knock and possibly compensate the owner with work around the farm etc. But I have seen it happen to me as well as others who have found some nice stuff only to be told after a few visits, "It is getting too much, we like our privacy". I am not saying this will happen to you but it does happen. A lease is a "win-win" for both parties. The landowner gets compensated and you and your friends have unlimited access to the property. The deer hunting community has been leasing hunting land forever and that arrangement seems to be beneficial for all parties. I had a successful lease with a farmer for 12 years and it was a "win-win" for both parties.
Digging up all those bullets, brings a little different meaning to the old saying,
"Get the lead out".
Agreed. Thanks for watching. God Bless -JP hunts
Somebody has probably already commented on this, but that is not a tent stake. Close, but no cigar. It is a tent rope tensioner.
We know the function of it, sometimes the wrong words come out of your mouth in the moment. We appreciate the comment 👍🏼
Holy smokes, the amount of targets there is something to behold, congratulations guys
It was definitely fun and not something I think anyone can get used to. Thanks for watching and God bless. -JP Hunts
Awesome Hunt!!
Glad you enjoyed it. God Bless. -JP Hunts
Good hunt guys. Yall should be opening them fire pits up. HH
Thanks and agreed. We will definitely be getting into more of that the next hunt. Thanks for watching and commenting. God bless. -JP
Wow! What another incredible hunt JP! Y’all have done great there! I’m jealous, wish it was me! Congrats to both of you!
We have definitely been blessed with wonderful permissions over the years. In many cases we bring an extra detector with us to have the property owner detect their own property. They enjoy it and it builds a lasting bond that makes them wanting you there more just so they can detect with you. Just a suggestion if you have an extra detector take it with you and offer it up. It helps. God Bless. -JP Hunts
@@masondixondiggers Great idea! Thanks for sharing! Good luck next time!
That is absolutely crazy!!! The amount of Civil War bullets you guys found was absolutely amazing!!! What an amazing hunt!!! Crazy Crazy Crazy!!! That was a once in a lifetime hunt!!! God Bless!!!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching it. God Bless. -JP Hunts
Y’all are going to have to get those bullets out of the way in order to hear the deeper stuff.
Agreed and we are looking forward to it just not the back pain. lol. Thanks for watching. -JP Hunts
Congratulations That would have been north of boonsboro. Towards Funkstown. I only know of 1 area that would be a unhiunted camp. That would be an old brick historical home property near cool holllow rd. They never let anyone hunt.
Incredibly awesome gentlemen! Great hunt and video
Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Appreciate you supporting our channel. God bless. JP
There is an untouched confederate calvery camp on Fort A.P.Hill. but because of its location it will never be hunted. And it is a winter camp. Absolute shame.
great hunt and location. you guys stick with this and plates are soon to turn-up. JP... what can I say, great job on the video. We really appreciate the time that you took to shot and share it.
Thank you Andy. I appreciate the kind words. God Bless -JP Hunts
I'm a coin guy. Don't just rush past the large cents. I'd like to know what the dates are, just for the heck of it.
Completely understand. Sorry about that. I will make sure we do our best to represent the coins more for our followers. Thanks for the heads up and God bless. -JP Hunts.
Just an unbelievable hunt, guys! Congratulations 😍😍😍
Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. God Bless -JP Hunts
I found a gold plated button in the Berkshire's mountains one month ago and it's dated to 1860's-1870's.
Nice. That’s awesome. Congratulations
@@masondixondiggers I am going to Maryland next year to look for civil war relics and post that on my TH-cam Channel.
when are you going to post the next video.
We have to wait until hunting season is over at this camp but we will be back there very soon for round two. Cant wait. Thanks for watching. JP Hunts
Wow, absolutely incredible hunt and finds. I would freak out finding just one of the bullets let alone some of the other items. My old heart would probably give out 😆 🤣. Thanks for sharing, good luck, happy hunting and take care. ✌️
Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. We appreciate your support to our channel. Happy hunting and God bless. -JP Hunts
if you had ash in the hole it could have been a trash pit, you need to dig deeper because they can go down 4 feet, 3 foot wide and about 6 feet long. that plate may be deeper along with bottles and all sorts of good things
New subscriber from SE MN here. Jealous of the items you guys get to dig there. We have old in MN, but not that old. I did recently dig a Civil War era bullet at a seeded hunt though. LOL. Looking forward to following your adventures. "Every item found has a story to tell. Sometimes it just takes a little digging to figure out what that story is." Jim Parry, Backroads Metal Detecting
Hello sir. Thanks for the Sub. I hope you enjoy our other videos we have and more to come. God Bless -JP Hunts
Hey guys! First time viewer, your vid popped up on my feed. And glad it did, excellent upload of an incredible day. I have never seen that many finds from one area, great job!
Welcome to the channel. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and decided to join us. Check out some of our other videos. You might find those interesting as well. Thanks for watching and commenting. God bless. -JP Hunts
Reminds me of the early years of hunting. But were are all the buttons ??
Right. Not that many buttons this time. It might of been because we were focused on the high tone targets in hopes of finding a plate or brass items. It got to the point that we started passing up bullets to find the high tone brass. Thanks for watching and commenting. God bless. JP
I know those tent tighteners are supposed to be post war but I have found quite a few and all in Civil War camps, just makes you wonder...
I agree 100 percent. We didn’t find anything post civil war in the camp. I did find one pull tab. Everything else was all good civil war targets. Definitely makes you wonder. Thanks for watching and commenting. God bless. -JP
Great job. What settings do you like to use on the Nox
Mostly Field 1 multi frequency. 5 tones, Recovery speed 5, iron bias 0, sensitivity 22-23, ground balance and noise cancel
Whats the batwing for?
The cavalry leather sling belt had a buckle to adjust the length of the carbine sling to the size need by the cavalryman. The batwing was a metal piece attached on the tongue/tip on the end of the leather belt. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching the videos. God bless. -JP Hunts.
At 12:55 whatever it is is gettin scratch ed and bent all to hell 🤗
Would die to dig in a civil war area!
I would love to see the finds compared to an image of the object in like a display from a museum or something.
Never dig a circle plug. Cut about 75% of it leaving some roots in tack. Flip plug leaving one corner connected. Then dig out target and flip plug back into place. This helps not make a dead spot in the grass.
Thanks for the tip. We will definitely consider this for yard permissions in the future. Again thanks and God bless. -JP Hunts
@@masondixondiggers that’s what kills it when circles of death dot their yard. Leaving some roots in tack it regenerates and won’t die.
@@masondixondiggers also the target in the side wall he missed in plug. Use pinpointed first to see if it can detect it. I’ve been off inches with my Fisher F-75… just turn on to max setting and lower it by pushing button once and sensitivity on Pinpointer will drop to level two. Do it again level one… when turned off then back on it will be back at level three for detecting before you dig up plug and miss it or hit it. This technique mainly helps you not hit the target.
So glad to see you posting again. Hope all has been well with you. Great finds today to bring back to light. looking forward to your next hunt.
Sorry it took so long. Thanks for supporting our channel. God Bless. JP
