It's funny that Izuka said this because if you look at the terios concept art, you'll notice that in the text, Vegeta's name was written on the side when describing him.😊

4:47 Ian Flynn has talked about this in his Bumblekast some time ago, that Starfall Super Sonic is the Internal Name for the enhanced state of the Super Sonic transformation in the Final Horizon Story.
In my opinion i always hated that idea that shadow is the vegeta of the sonic world so i agree with izuka 100% that also goes for the rest of the sonic cast
In terms of Shadow’s rivalry with Sonic compared to Vegeta’s, I wish Sonic and Shadow remained on good terms after SA2. Shadow has shown mutual respect to Sonic, even as far back as SA2. I think 06 had the right idea with their relationship going forward. To me, it feels like a regression of Shadow’s character, and ironically makes him feel closer to Vegeta then he was before.
Can’t wait for Silver n Trunks next lol. Anyways Fr ever since folks been saying Shadow is a Vegeta clone (Especially since Sonic Boom where he basically acts like Vegeta), I always hated that cuz Shadow is more than Vegeta. While I did agree if there was a role where Sonic is match with DBZ, ya Shadow would be Vegeta, but Shadow got more differences with his backstory n I always prefer him since he was more of a broken character than just start off as a villain to hero. He ain’t like Silver where Silver literally barely got any differences to Trunks besides looks n powers.
I personally disagree with the idea that sonic and shadow rivalry mirrors goku and vegeta. With goku and vegeta they are both in on the rivalry and are always trying to surpass each other. While sonic and shadow only sonic sees it as a rivalry, shadow couldn’t care less about surpassing sonic because his existence doesn’t revolve around sonic. Sonic usually has to bait shadow into competing with him which he does seem to enjoy. Dragon Ball is not a huge part of sonics dna and I personally agree with izuka because I’m tired of dragon ball fans treating sonic like a lazy anthropomorphic Dbz clone.
I agree most of the character comparisons are pretty much bullsh*t. The only one that kind of makes sense is Silver and Future Trunks even though they have one thing in common with each other.
Not high part 😭 That crazy cope if you ask me when you see the backstory of characters like tiles sonic and even game play + I'm sure not only dbz fan treats sonic like some copy it's mostly a lot of people in other fandom I won't see it's good but when the most iconic parts are from other shows yah you kinda did that to yourself
You've pretty much understood the assignment. Shadow is a character who fights for what he thinks is right, even if it's questionable at times. His rivalry with Sonic can't really be compared to the saiyans since they're rivalry is purely from getting stronger together and surpassing limits. Sonic and Shadow's dynamic isn't really like that. Though I can definitely see why people compare these characters.
My take on it is this: I *get* where Iizuka is coming from. It can get frustrating to make a character with a specific story and purpose in mind, and people making unintended comparisons to unrelated characters. Like, Sonic isn't really subtle about its references and influences. Super Sonic, the Death Egg (and you can make a case for the ARK too), Sonic 2's Mecha Sonic and Silver the Hedgehog are proof of this. At the same time, yeah, it wouldn't hurt to loosen up about it. It's a surface level comparison based on similar roles within a story, it's just important to not let them get to you. Shadow isn't a Vegeta clone in the same way Sasuke from Naruto isn't a Vegeta clone. But you can put a positive spin on those comparisons, like, Shadow is Sonic's Vegeta because people think of him as being a rival character on equal footing with Sonic like Vegeta is on equal footing with Goku (which is true and that's reflected in Shadow's popularity). And I think the fan base understands the dynamics between the two duos are largely different. Like, Sonic and Shadow aren't constantly fighting each other to improve themselves, nor is Shadow trying to surpass Sonic to assert his status as the Ultimate Life Form. There's no competition outside of occasional confrontations. Emphasis on occasional. The one time I'd give it to people that Shadow feels a bit like Vegeta is his appearance in Boom. That's the closest it ever got, I feel.
3:40 Likeness has little to do with comparison and is not entirely the reason why some have Gear 5th Luffy an homage of Hyper Sonic. Tamago and especially Dagama of One Piece have clear appearances similar to Dr. Eggman and Egghead island being the smartest island in One Piece adds to it.
At this point Im shocked a Sonic character haven’t used a Kamehameha considering with Chaos Energy you should be able to use it in a way that’s similar to ki
And pretty sure Final Flash and Kamahamaha were both used at least once somewhere in the series. No fan can engulf all the content the series has to offer, but I've seen beams/blasts here and there over the years. It's similar to saying you're shocked noone in Dragon Ball has used Rasengan (I know in this case Naruto came AFTER DB, but there is a 4 part wheel cycle going on between them), when we actually have seen not only Goku use Rasengan but other characters as well. The Pokemon anime have "burrowed" moves from both series lol.

I have an interesting debate I wanna give. Here’s why I think the Sonic vs. Dragon Ball characters debate is closer than people think. Dragon Ball is all about growing stronger. Pushing yourself to become the strongest you can be and overcoming your limits. I believe Sonic has some of that too. Like Goku, Sonic is able to grow stronger with every fight. It’s confirmed in games like Generations and Forces that Sonic grows stronger every game. Like Goku and Vegeta, Sonic and Shadow both take on multiverse level beings too. Villains like Solaris, The End, Egg Salamander, and Erazor Djinn are able to destroy the entire multiverse. And even if we’re just including the game canon, that also exists the infinite universe of Maginary World, and The Arabian Nights. This makes Sonic Super Forms multiverse level at best. And there’s even proof that Super Sonic (and by argument Shadow) gets stronger with every game too. Such as in Frontiers when he’s able to take on every Titan and The End with each one getting stronger than the last. As well as The End being claimed to be more powerful than every villain Sonic previously fought combined, including those multiverse level beings I mentioned. And since Sonic and Shadow are able to grow stronger too, it’s not unreasonable to assume their Super Forms can do the same. I believe that since the Chaos Emeralds hold infinite power, Sonic and Shadow are able to unlock more and more of their infinite power every time they use them. This is similar to how every transformation Goku and Vegeta have get stronger and stronger, only instead of unlocking a new form, they’re unlocking more of their full power in their Super Form. That’s why I think these character matchups, while debatable, are not as far off as you think. It could go either way.
Apparently according to Ian Flynn, sonic growing in power is head canon which I find absolutely laughable bc the games contradict what he says. Such an L take.
@@Eminster Reminder that Ian Flynn is not a power scaler and isn’t the only one working on the sonic series. Hell, he hasn’t even been involved with the games until fairly recently.
Shouldn't be doing clickbait like that, since many people don't actually watch videos/read articles and just go off titles and thumbnails. Probably one of the best breakdowns validating how Shadow and Vegeta are not the same and Shadow not being the Vegeta of the series. (Mewtwo comparisons are valid though, especially Japanese Mewtwo.) However I would say llzuka should NOT embrace the comparisons people make, because then very obviously will people get too comfortable in their misguided beliefs and that will result in continued and expansive misconceptions and ignorance. That's how information and beliefs work when not checked and disciplined. llzuka and especially us consumer-fans who know better NEED TO KEEP fighting the good fight in informing and correcting people on their uneducated mindset on Shadow, both the comparison to Vegeta and his general characterization.
What I meant by Iizuka embracing it is that I think he should be okay with fans coming up with their own conclusions and enjoy comparing the two series. At the same time there's nothing wrong with what he said, but I just don't want people to think he's a "no fun allowed" kind of guy.
