I so love the French language. I remember, during my trip to Paris in 2014, I bought a 1-day metro ticket and rode all the metro lines just to hear the names of the stations, my favorite being 'Rome' haha

Me too. I rode the metro and tried to pronounce every station following the voice. I couldn’t believe how the French say Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The “s” in Barbès Rochechouart is pronounced at the end of a word because it’s a proper noun (a person’s name) otherwise it would be silent.

That is odd because the name Lévesque, as in the famous Québécois politician René Lévesque, the S is silent, so it's like saying "Lévêque". Does it change from name to name?
@@oXPhillyXo Seeing that some spell the name with the circonflex (which replaces the "s") especially in older names, that would explain the colloquial pronunciation without the "s".

Bir-Hakeim used to be an oasis in Libya which is nowadays deserted, a lost place. It played a role in both world wars, in the battle of Bir-Hakeim 1942 French troops delayed the advance of German forces, one of the first contributions of the Free French Forces to the war. Pont de Passy, a combined bridge for road and elevated metro built 1878, received the name Pont de Bir-Hakeim in 1949. The Métro station opened 1906 was originally called Grenelle, in 1949 the name of both the bridge and the metro station were changed.

Thank you very much for your pronounciation of all the important metro stations. I always listened to the announcements on the metro and I agree with your mother that Tuileries was the most difficult for me to pronounce also. But having listened to you it is slightly easier now.

In Belgium, the S is pronounced in Anvers. I went to Belgium as an American student at a Flemish university and a student from Lyon, France told me he didn't know the S in Anvers was pronounced, but I think in northern France they do pronounce the S.

I would like to say that during 2011, I was going on a trip with my church youth group. Paris was one of the destination that we go to after the church event. I was the navigator/guide when I was there. I only have a 1 year of French (high school) then... I need to get back into French soon.

@@Street_French the Name :D I honestly haven't been in the area, we only pass there when we're going on vacation and have to go from gare de l'Est to Montparnasse, and we like the pronounciation so it became a running gag :)
ROO-CHOO-CHARD! The American way! I stayed at the Hotel Avenir off the Anvers stop. I found that it's easier to come out of gare de nord at the La Chapelle and going straight to Anvers instead of the other way and have to transfer at the Barbes. Anvers then PIG ALLEY

I love the Paris Metro station names. Barbes.Rochechouart was the one I didn't know how to pronounce correctly. Good stop for shopping at TATI if it still exists. . do more weirder station names. Like Stalingrad.

It might be more helpful to have a map showing the location of each station. Still, I like the pronunciation as it helps with many other similar words.
Ce pourrait être plus utile d'avoir une carte montrer le lieu de chaque station. Encore, j'aime bien la prononciation comme ce aides avec beaucoup de autres mots.

Thank you such much for these videos! I have an idea for one. What are mistakes native speakers make in french? I tried to do my research but haven't found a lot on the web. People bring up mostly confusing homophones when writing. But that's not what I'm looking for. In english we sometimes say "less" instead of "fewer", "laid" instead of "lain", use past simple when present perfect should be employed. But we don't usually take issue with that, however "i could care less" and the like really bug some people. Could you please cover mistakes that are fine to make in informal language and those that some francophones make but we really shouldn't?

Thanks, but all these stations are quite easy to deduce the pronunciation (except, maybe, Bir-Hakeim - I remember I used to pronounce it incorrectly, like 'Bir-Akɝ'), but there are quite a few metro stations in Paris that still remain a mystery to me - for ex. Ranelagh.
(yes, maybe it will be better to record the pronunciation of every metro / RER station.)
Hello! I know you posted this comment 2 years ago, but if I can help someone out: this station is very hard because the name is not french (apparently it's an irish baron who was for the independance of ireland or something and gave the name to the square nearby). It's pronounced like Ran-lag (so g is indeed pronouced, just like in "gare"), although in the english version it would be pronounced otherwise.
Just next door to Ranelagh, you have Michel-Ange-Auteuil which is also a tricky one: It's "Mikel Ãj Otöy" so to say (so not Mi *sh* el but mi *k* el, nasal "an" and "j" like jambon).

No not always :)
It's a y sound when there is an i in front, with a few exceptions, like in mille (pronounced almost like mill) and million (mille - ion) though regionaly people may pronounce it miyon. It can be tricky ^^

J’aimerais que tu prononces tous les noms de tous (ou presque tout) dès stations de métro, surtout les deux bouts de chaque ligne, car on voit ces noms souvent en changeant de ligne pour aller dans la bonne direction. Par exemple : Marie d’Issy, Porte de Clignancourt?, Porte d’Ivry, Marie d’Ivry, Edgar Quinet, Vaugirard, etc..J’en serais très reconnaissant. À+...🙏

It was to honor him for being an ally in WWII and liberating Paris. The former name of the station was Marbeuf and Rond-Point as two lines came together as a line was extended so the station was combined and renamed after WWII.

In western countries you will be called “ plain Jayne” for not dressing up.
haha ah well idk where you're from but in Paris we like to wear subtle make up and we don't go all out with fake lashes etc like in the US for example.
Look up youtube videos about make up in France VS the US or other countries :) it's always good to learn other people customs and culture
