He's so good at it. It's like a cheese present. And cheese presents would be nice. Even those common cheese presents you get at Christmas time are good. These must be amazing.
This is one of your best videos. Incredibly informative, very well researched, and of course fantastically edited. Alex, I wish you nothing but succes, because you are one of the hardest working youtubers I know.
This is seriously the most underrated channel on TH-cam. I studied abroad in Paris and you are filling some sort of nostalgia for me every time you post these awesome videos. Keep it up, Alex!
I’ve worked for a cheese distributor in Denmark, and I’ve tasted your entire collection in this video. I must say it’s nice to see some reactions and your take on each cheese’s international substitutes
We always have a cheese board in the center of the counter at dinner parties and it's my favorite because everyone stands around drinking, eating good food and talking. It's beautiful.
I'm a fellow Frenchman and I leave just around Paris, so I have the chance to be able to buy all these wonderful Cheeses (Because there's also an awesome Cheese shop right next to my place), and I have to admit that my American friends would go CRAZY for it! 😁😁 I've spent a lot of time in Florida for vacations on multiple occasions and I can tell you guys for sure that sadly, there aren't such tremendous cheeses like these over there. Still, I was able to find some pretty decent Italian cheeses there. But if like me, you're a "Cheese lover", you guys definitely need to plan a trip to France! And remember once there to ONLY buy from specialized Cheese shops and absolutely NOT from Supermarkets! This is mandatory if you want to experience THE genuine French' cheese experience! 😉😉
I wanted to jump through the screen and join you in the taste testing! I love cheeses, with wine, how heavenly!! Thank you for introducing me to some exquisite cheese! I’m so grateful I found you!! You’re truly so awesome, & adorable! Xoxo
I find the creativity, complexity, and variety in cheese to be remarkably beautiful, like an art. That being said, I follow a plant-based diet so I don’t partake myself, but I can still appreciate the beauty of cheese.
That cheese board would be my dad’s dream. He absolutely loves cheese! If he could, he would just eat good bread with some butter and cheese (with some good wine, of course). He’s still very slim, though. And he speaks French... He’s not French, though.
I went to France last summer and I ate Comte for the very first time and I was amazed but then I went and visited the tunels where they make the roquefort cheese and tased it for the very first time and boy was I in love. I brough home half a killo of chese that was ate not two weeks later. And nothing comes close to roquefort so take that gorgonzolla and place it on the cheese board because it is indeed delicious but it is not roquefort.
Just gotta say. I really appreciate you mentioning US cheese too. Most people in the US don't know what good cheese we have that's local. Also I'm from Wisconsin and had some Gran Queso a few weeks ago. Thanks a ton Alex!
Yeah. For a country as big as the US, there's bound to be a region that specializes in diary products. So you've got Wisconsin. And since the love for good cheese is universal, there *_must_* be some small local producers of high-quality cheese. The difficulty is just finding the right ones.
I've become rather fond of adding mustard as a side. I know it's normally more of a charcuterie thing, but with the right cheese, it can be quite a lovely pairing, especially a Dijon.
Being from California, that shoutout was wonderful. One of my favorite cheeses is Humboldt Fog. It's smooth and creamy as mentioned but with a fine layer of a blue running through it. Great to show beginners to blue cheese. 😂 They always fall in love.
It is time to plan a trip to France just to get my hands on some of these selections. It is nice to see someone with a cheese passion as well, Ty Alex.
Love love the Pyrenees cheese. My cheddar substitute while in France. Awesome on homemade white bread with thick butter and black currant jam. BTW, love the duck eggs at the scale in the shop.
I'm taking French at college, and my latest assignment is to create a 5 course dinner menu, and your channel is definitely helping! Now I know how to craft a cheese plate!
My older sister had a french exchange student and since i was at a very young age at that time i wasn't realy able to communicate with her, due to a lack of language knowledge. But I pretty well remember how exited Delphine was when she found some cheeses she knew and convienced us to try them, Comte was one of them. That's clearly when my cheese-addiction started :-) Since then i tried cheeses from all over the world and the sheer range of tastes is incredible. Mercie, for enrichen my knowledge again.
Hmmmmm - can taste and smell it from here - thanks for putting this video together. But I would have two questions for the French expert: 1.) which order would you suggest for tasting the cheeses? 2.) which wine would you recommend to go with the different cheeses? (White, red, region,...) Thx in advance for your comments.
+Michael Freyer Cheese from peaceful to daunting. Would you use only one wine ( my case) go for an aromatic dry wine : Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Riesling... A good trappist or white beer could do wonders too.
Hey, Fantastic video thanks! It's inspired me for what to do for a special thank you meal with friends. Also the focus on international alternatives is great. I'm an American in London so it's great to see my options. Cheers!
Wooooow I've been to that fromagerie about a year ago!! It is simply amazing the variety of fromages there are. I bought the 36 months old Comté. Or maybe it was 24. Anyway, awesome shop!
I looove the French culture! And cheese that is, this is a great video and liked that satisfying part where that guy wrapped the cheeses. Just subscribed!! Looking forward to see more
I hear us Brits do 'French' accents all the time (inc. me), but I've never heard a French person do an English accent. I loved it! MUCH better than the Americans doing it. Toutes nos félicitations!
I'm hosting a cheese and wine party next week and I bought absolutely ALL THE CHEESES you showed (I'm lucky enough to live in Switzerland). I have high expectations, Alex, hopefully it won't disappoint! Cheers!
Ima simple man, comté, cheddar, Gouda, manchego and raclette are my favorite European cheese. On the other hand, being french and mexican also makes me have a soft spot for mexican cheeses
Actually Mexico had one of the best cheeses in the wolrd this year called Flor de queso. Also, Manchego and Oaxaca are probably the most known mexican cheeses and they're very good but also very fresh so it's not really strong. Anyways, cheese is beautiful no matter where it's from as long as it's properly made.
As someone who goes past the place where they make Humboldt Fog weekly, it's a surprise and a joy to hear it mentioned as a good goat cheese choice from someone all the way in Paris!
J'adore Comté ❤️ The only cheese of this type that I prefer is Beaufort. Comté is easy to find where I live in Devon, UK but Beaufort is much harder to get. I recently visited family in The Cotswolds and there was a French market of all things in the market place with a wonderfully knowledgeable French lady selling a massive range of incredible French cheeses. She had Beaufort, of course, and I got the biggest piece I could afford!
I had the chance to visit a "Fromagerie" where the Beaufort was made, and I bought half a kg to bring back home. In the 5 hours that took the train to get there, i ate it all....
PRAISE THE COMTE AND THE GOAT CHEESE!! You are officially my favourite youtuber. Keep making these awesome videos ! Salut from New York City :) ***Most of these cheeses can be found at Murrays Cheese for those of you who live in the city***

mugensamurai I have found that people who treat high calorie foods (cheese, chocolate, desserts, alcohols like wine or beer, cured meats, etc) as an experience and indulgence instead of having the cheaper ones comsumes less, less often, and enjoy them more on the whole. Thus, it's often slim/fit people geeking out over food.

This is my first time watching your channel and you are adorable. And knowledgeable, thank you for explaining good cheeses and how to incorporate them on a cheeseboard and what the alternatives are. Tell your friend if I'm ever in Paris I'll be heading to his shop!
Alex, your videos are just so, so excellent. Funny, genuinely informative, and I could listen to you talk all day. Please keep doing what you do so well, and Merry Christmas!
He wants to escape but it's too late!! 😂 Thank you for doing this. I now feel prepared to put one together for my Christmas Eve party. There has to be a place in Chicago where I can get some great cheeses. The hunt begins! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

loved the content, but seriously how satisfying is to see that guy wrapping the cheese omg
............... and cutting into the cheeses themselves..... particularly the velvety, spreadable ones...
I thought it was just me!😍
He's so good at it. It's like a cheese present. And cheese presents would be nice. Even those common cheese presents you get at Christmas time are good. These must be amazing.

The only problem is he forgot to put salame or some kind of meat on it. If you have bread and cheese you need meat like bacon or sausage.
hay woods he assembled a cheese board, not a chacuitre board

I'm in love with cheese. That cheese board is the sexiest most beautiful thing. I could eat this every meal for days and not get bored.
ghaida h Me too. Cheese can be eaten in so many ways that in my house we have cheese in almost every meal x)

Great video! Cheese, cheese, and more cheese, it's always a winner! :)
Humbolt Fog (from here in California) is one of my favorite cheeses...thanks for the call out 😍
Do you k ow how excited I was when I saw this!!! AHH love cheese boards!! "science my ass" haha #spreaditlikebutter
I love your videos. They are informative and cover such diverse culinary topics. Somehow you also always make me laugh. It is a great combination.
That cheese store looks like my heaven..... I definitely want to try this!
Being from California, that shoutout was wonderful.
One of my favorite cheeses is Humboldt Fog. It's smooth and creamy as mentioned but with a fine layer of a blue running through it.
Great to show beginners to blue cheese. 😂 They always fall in love.

Love love the Pyrenees cheese. My cheddar substitute while in France. Awesome on homemade white bread with thick butter and black currant jam. BTW, love the duck eggs at the scale in the shop.
One of the best things about Montreal is I can find all of these cheeses with relative ease!
Hodo so true!
Hodo Awesome. Canada also has great cheese. We are fortunate to have great cheese shops in our bigger cities.
agreed, from Toronto!
Hodo yeah, but unfortunately once the cheese is gone, youre still in Montreal :/
But it costs you at least twice as much.... screw the Canadian dairy board; good cheese must be made available to the working masses!
And students....
I'm taking French at college, and my latest assignment is to create a 5 course dinner menu, and your channel is definitely helping! Now I know how to craft a cheese plate!
comte is my favorite! for those of you in the US, it can be easily found in any trader Joe's :) i love it with dried apricots and toasted almonds

Thank you for suggesting alternative cheeses for other areas in the world, love your channel
I wish I lived in France after watching this video!
trust me you should.
And there is a loooooooot more cheese to taste and love 😍
In fact France is the country with the most types of cheese. Beautiful country indeed.
I'm lucky most of the well known cheeses are available in belgium as well
@@paulinouillessautees the Italian one is on another level
@@MrJcalvino nope. The most variety of cheese is in Italy

Hands down the best food-channel on TH-cam! Your love for food is so inspiring :) Thanks for the great content
I love Roquefort and i love Castello Creamy Blue its very nice but my ultimate cheese is Corsican Tommette De Brebis but it is so hard to get!
You should come to corsica my dude ! The cheeses, the meats, the scenery, nothing to regret !
I have also tried Castello, and it was a mighty experience.

being a non French speaker I must say: oui!! oui moi aussi!! ^_^ yum

Harry Ward but doesn't sans mean without? So the first person said I love cheese without moderation not in moderation.
I just watched a video of a cheese expert breaking down what good cheeses look like, and I am SO HAPPY to apply this newly found knowledge. Those cheeses looked exceptional. 🙏🏼

I live nearby the French border so we usually get either wine
from Alsace, Baden, Pfalz or Württemberg.
Our Mountains are plastered with this specific
grape type and they are quite sweet but not very acidic.
Alex, try putting old chesses (pass their best) into soups or stews to add more flavour
This cheese shop is like heaven. Nice choice of cheeses. The Epoisses is my favorite!

The only people that can have a sustainable relationship with cheese haha.
Not all of us :-)
That's because they're French. They don't pig out like Americans.
and they are probably alchoholics
Love these Frenchman's guides Alex! Please make more of these!!!
watching this and being lactose intolerant makes me so sad...
Me too, but mate - it's worth the bad tummy for cheese!
lactose gets transformed in the cheese-making process; you should be able to have most of these, actually. Or there's always lactase pills.
Dulce G try sheep or goat milk cheeses then
Olivier Pernet My pal, I tried to eat cheese a few days ago and BBOOOYYYY my stomach and skin absolutely hated me. But maybe it's because the cheese was a type of Mexican cheese that's 'fresh' I need me some lactose pills.

Love this episode. Thank you for introducing various France's cheeses. Comté is the best!!! and Mont d'Or is my second favourite one, also coming from Franche-Comté :)
Soheun Lee Next time, try "Cancoillotte" cheese with a good piece of bread, I'm sure you will love it !
Hi from a Franche-Comté Guy ! :-)
How much did this video cost?
As a frenchman, I'd say there's about 35-40 euros of cheese, there.
In Paris, it's closer to $50 to $55 I would say, just for the cheeses.
Just subscribed to your channel. Love, love, love this video. Keep up the good work!!
yum. I have a question maybe you can help me with? I really like morbier cheese but it's really hard to find here in Oregon. Do you know any types of cheese that taste close to that?
I don't know if you will find it in the US, but fontina an italian cheese is quite similar to morbier.
Here in Michigan I can often purchase Petite Basque at Costco! A great flavorful cheese that everone loves! I enjoy your videos very much! Merci Beaucoup, Alex! Continué SVP!

This video inspired me to go to a french cheese shop in Borough Market in London and buy lots of very expensive cheese. I bought Mont D'Or and something that looks like it's covered in mould.
Science ON your ass (and your hips and chin) after this! Thanks for the tips Alex!
I meant the fat of the cheese. Smartypants.
Humboldt fog is my favorite cheese. So glad it got a mention! Love your channel you are like the french Alton Brown.
wish there was a love button instead of just a like button, didn't mean for that to sound as dirty as it did LOL
Great video. Brilliant choice of wine, too; Cave de Ribeauville are really good.
