Great book selections! My 9 year old is really loving The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls series right now. Your little guy may like that. Even your older boys would for an easy fun read.
My 12 year old says 'yes" to Wild Robot. He loved it! Not so much tge second book, but yes to the first one. He is a scout and loves the outdoors too, so he will be reading My Side of the Mountain this year!
My kids LOVE the Tuttle Twins books! They are so well done and excellent pictures! We all liked the Wild Robot, but I didn't love how it ended. My 9 year old loves the Hometown Hunter collection by Lane Walker. He has a fishing series that is next up to buy.
We are reading The Wild Robot right now and are really enjoying it. I have a 9 and 7 year old and this is one of the first where they will ask me to keep reading whenever I pick it up. It really is very naturey. I think your boys will like it.
We did the Wild Robot and the wild robot escapes several years ago and my kids love it. It was very basic (robot sentences) in it language but well explained and easy to understand. Much like The Giver it shows how society could be when given a different set of rules for behavior. We liked that it showed perseverance and problem solving when the knowledge of something new was being learned. It was a quick read but definitely had great discussion points 💗 This was the first time finding your channel and I will definitely be watching more!
We are half way through The Wild Robot Escapes (the second book). We are listening to the audiobook - it’s so good! The first book is about a robot who gets stranded on a deserted island and can talk to the animals, learns how to survive, etc. The second book continues the robot’s journey. My kids love it! (9 year old and 6 year old) Hatchet will be a summer read for us!
The Great Turkey walk was a fav family read aloud. We couldn’t put it down. My son loved My Side of the Mountain and currently loving Mad Scientist series (about a group of boys outdoors and their adventures).
The Wild Robot is very nature and outdoorsy friendly!!!! The wild robot is stranded on an island and has to "survive" with all the little animals!! My little hunter/fisherman LOVED the Wild Robot!!! It's great!!!!
I was just coming over to say the same thing! It was light hearted and fun and I definitely did not see any underlying messaging that I see other people are saying. My boys love the wild robot :)
Mr. Popper's Penguins is so fun. The Wild Robot was just ok for us. Your older boys would probably be beyond it. Cute story, but language is really simplistic.
I think your boys would like the Wild Robot. We read them before they became so popular but the robot as to survive in the wild. I know that sounds off that a robot would have to survive but she has to in the wilderness and how she makes friends, so I think your boys would love it.
My daughter at age 9 enjoyed The Wild Robot and it's sequel but I thought it was only ok - a 3/5 read. I am really enjoying The Wingfeather Saga on audio and hope my girl will pick up the books and get into them. The Year of Miss Agnes is a favorite of mine. Favorites of our so far this year have been By the Great Hornspoon, and the Great Turkey Walk.
I think your boys will love the the wild robot. I also have 3 boys, n a girl, all into dirtbikes, hunting, rugby (were in new Zealand) and they all loved the wild robot, and the wild robot escapes. Other favorites were Hatchet (with the older2) winnie the pooh, he is awesome. In to the wild, the sign of the beaver, pax. And my oldest is currently reading the narnia series
My 7 year old son loves The Wild Robot. The first boom is all about the robot surviving on an island with wildlife and a little battle at the end when the recons come for him.
We love those popper toys! One of the moms in my co-op introduced me to that and they’ve been so fun! There’s an actual game for it, too. “Last Mouse Lost.”
I think your boys would really like The Wild Robot. It's about nature, wildlife, survival, friendship. So good! I plan on reading the next book in the series. My boys are into outdoors too and they really liked it. Full of excitement but good lessons to learn too!
Your boys might enjoy “My Side Of The Mountain” by Jean Craighead George. It’s a Newberry Honor book too. Follows a Boy named Sam who learns to survive in the wilderness. It’s a three book series. “On The Far Side Of The Mountain” is the next one, then “Frightful’s Mountain” is the last. We read “Mrs.Piggle Wiggle” with our Sonlight core (so silly and fun!) and we’re finishing up “Sled Dog School” by Terry Lynn Johnson. It’s about an 11 year old boy who starts a sled dog school as a business to improve his math grade. Super informative about all the technical stuff for running sled dogs, pretty cool. We Love it so far!
I have a lot of respect for you and so I would love your feedback on this. My kids are very sensitive emotionally and if I try to correct them. They either cry or look like they are going to cry. I then say that we are done with what we are doing whether it is playing or school because I don't want to be like my parents who berated me so bad it affects me to this day. How can I be the parent (also homeschooling mom) but still showing them the love and security that they need?
Ohhh sweet mama...this topic alone deserves a whole video in and of itself. You are not alone. 💕 More to come on this....so much more. I'll be praying for you. 💓
@@SimplyLivingIt thanks for your encouragement. I am wondering if I can be a good homeschooling mom. I was modeled anger, teasing and very little love. I don't want to give up on this but I'm not sure if I can do it anymore. My husband said no to private school though and that's the only other option I would even consider. I can't seem to find a routine to save my life and I thrive on routines though no one else seems to. I'm just at a loss and I just need the advice of a more seasoned homeschooling mom because my kids are 4 and 5 but they are are in late kindergarten or early first grade level work.
Oh and The Green Ember has been an amazing adventure your kids might enjoy. The setting is nature with animals on a huge adventure, strong family unity, and lots of adventure.
Have you Read 'The Sign of the Beaver'? My hunting/fishing mountain Boys LOVE that one. Always ask me to keep reading. About a 12 year old boy left in the wilderness alone while his father goes to fetch the rest of the family to come to the new cabin they made to settle in. We are about half way through and I have to tell them I need to stop reading because they keep shouting one more chapter🤣.
The sign of the beaver, where the red fern grows, Swiss family Robinson, and The Indian in the cupboard are all good! They also loved Hatchet! My boys hunt and love the outdoors! The Hometown Hunters chapter books from the Author Lane Walker was the “big breakthrough” for my boys!!!! They LOVE them!!
Me & My Feelings is so good! It has helped my 9 yr old son tremendously! And tbh, it's even helped me. I do recommend the affirmations book Torrie used as well. It's awesome! We also have Little House in the Big Woods & A Long Walk to Water. I just found Hatchet yesterday at goodwill for a steal along with a stack of other books! I was in heaven! We are also doing The Book Wanders & The Wild Robot this summer. The Chronicles of Narnia is so good as well my boy is like yours, very outdoorsy but he enjoys The Chronicles of Narnia & Harry Potter. It takes them into another kind of adventure.
We have read quite a few of these ones and now have a few to add to our list. For summer, we are doing books and watching the movies that go along with them. We just finished Because of Winn Dixie. And we are currently doing Tuck Everlasting. My kids love the Tuttle Twins! So Amazing!
We read the Little House in the Big Woods this morning & we LOVED it. We made little pancake men & a few other things to go along with it. It was just amazing. (3 boys here, too! 12, 6, and almost 4, as well as our daughter who turned one today!) We love Tori's recommendations, too. I haven't read either the Robot series or the Wingfeather Saga, but I found the Harry Potter series when I was in second grade, and the very last book came out while I was in Basic Training, and the love I have for the Harry Potter series is HUGE. I grew up with the characters in that series, and LOVED it throughout my childhood.
My boys loved My Side of the Mountain and the other 2 books that go along with it. My oldest (10) LOVES all of Coyote Peterson books but he’s crazy about science and animals. We are currently buying a home and selling our current home so their is very little structured school going on. I’ll be so excited to get moved into our new home and get settled in and get back into our normal flow of things.
My boys absolutely loved the Wild Robot and The Wild Robot Escapes! They are fun adventures! The Bear Grylls Adventure series are great too and may be right up your boys ally! I purchased The Tuttle Twins books for this upcoming school year and am so excited to dive in! Happy summer adventuring!
The Courage of Sarah Noble is a good easy read. We really enjoyed it! A Long Walk to Water is REALLY GOOD!!!! You will love it! Those famous American books are awesome! They have a lot of them on Book Outlet!
You have so many good reads picked out! With having outdoorsy kiddos, my kids love the books about history in our local mountains. I find them in our national park’s bookstore. That might be fun reads as well! 💜
I love books too!!! I made (assigned) my 11 year old read Little house in the big woods this past school year and she fought me on it, she said it was old and boring (eye roll) haha! But then as she got into she couldn’t put it down! So she trust me a little more now for book suggestions. Also, teachers pay teachers website offered a really quick and easy study guide for that book that was really nice! If you like doing guides along with the reading for comprehension! Thank you for these books suggestions!
We loved “Nims Island” and then we watched the movie and compared the two. My daughter said “tell her it’s adventurous and has nature” lol We also like the Tuttle twins
I would have never chosen to read the Wild Robot... I thought it wasn’t my type of book at all. It ended up being one of our favorites!!! One huge recommendation is to listen to it on Audible... once I switched to that, I was hooked (I think the Robot voice helped). We were so invested in this story; we had to go out and get the second one. I think your boys will like it because it very much deals with living out in the wild. We did such a fun book party with it, where we actually build forts etc. 😃
We are almost done with the Wild Robot and it’s super cute. I have 3 boys also- ages 11,9 & 5 and they all love it. We listen to it on audiobooks in the car, I think for us the audio version adds so much interest in it for my boys 🙂
For the Tuttle twins books did you get the activity downloads that go with each? I feel like so many people miss out on them and they were free when I bought my set.
We loved wild robot. It’s an interesting story of a robot trying to fit in with animals, and find its place. She also has to learn how to survive in the wilderness. She watches other animals and learns different techniques for surviving. But it is also a touching book, because she develops special Relationships with the animals.
My boys are all about the adventure nature books too. Some of our favorites have been the My Side of the Mountain series, Summer of the Monkeys, Where the Red Fern Grows, and the Virginia Mystery series :)
They will LOVE the wild robot!!! It’s all based in nature and with the animals all working together!!! My kids and I ADORE it and read it every single summer!! 😍
I LOVE books!!! My kids all love reading. I’m always looking for chapter books for my first grader for bedtime reads. I like to do a chapter each night. She enjoys unwinding and I love the way she is more attentive than during the day because there isn’t the other stimulation of noise/activities distracting her. Thank you for sharing your books.
Thanks for the book recommendations! I am currently reading The Year of Miss Agnes to my daughters and we are enjoying it. I added The Courage of Sarah Noble to my list, we are trying to read books that take place in each state as we learn our states and capitals!
The Green Ember is so good , I play the audio , Joel Clarkson is the narrator and he does amazing. Scribd is the BEST audio/pdf book app. It’s so inexpensive and no limits on book check out.
Are you the Mom that used only the Bible one year?? 💓 Question: What age would you say “The Tuttle Twins” would be best suited for? “My Side of the Mountain” 🏔 might be one your boys would enjoy.
My husband has read the Wingfeather saga series himself and loved them, and he would read some outloud to our daughters as well. I've heard about those Tuttle Twins books. I'm thinking of looking into them, thanks for your input. Loved your haul!
I’m using Sonlight for the first time soon and their book list is great. A lot of your reads are on the list for core B which what we are doing :) I want to read the wingfeather saga bad but I heard the wild robot was overrated lol. We love the Lane Walker hunting series! They have a younger children’s version and chapter books. It gets me all warm and fuzzy inside when reading then to my boys. Even my daughter because she’s so excited to go to deer camp one day or to the grasslands with her daddy when she’s older. I feel like I might have mentioned them before but either way they are great. Also, meat eater is a great show and Steven Renella has good cookbooks. We have learned so much from them and it really ties more into the life skills unschooling that goes with our lifestyle of hunting and gathering :)
Oh my, Wild Robot!! I keep hearing about that too!!! I am ordering it and hope my boys love it too. I have been hearing about the Tuttle Twins as well. Is that a particular series you have? I am ordering that sensory toy for my youngest, he has major ADHD. Where is that link for the toy?
@@SimplyLivingIt I ordered the set this morning. This will especially be perfect for my high schooler for who will be doing government and economics. Can’t wait to dive in, thank you for the recommendation.
I agree with My Side of the Mountain and Sign of the Beaver, my boys have loved those. Also, there are other books about Brian from Hatchet I think. We loved Wingfeather, if y’all do audiobooks the author reads them himself and it’s amazing in that format. We’ve read most of your book haul, you’re going to have so much fun with those books!! Mrs. Piggle Wiggle is hilarious, all my kids love it.
My boys liked " Danger in quicksand swamp" by Bill Walace it's about two boys that find a map and they go on an adventure to find the X on the map and get into some trouble. Bill Wallace has written other books I plan to buy.
If you want some older books to throw in the mix for your boys, I recommend Children of the New Forest and Little Duke. Children of the New Forest is about 4 siblings basically surviving on their own during the English Civil War. We learned a lot about hunting and farming from it. Little Duke is a bit hard at first but got soooo good around chapter 6. It’s about the Duke of Normandy/ William the Conqueror’s great grandfather when he became a duke as a kid. He is taken as hostage by king of France for awhile….and I wont say any more…. Amblesideonline has a guide for it listed in their year 2. I’m super excited to read it again this coming up school year. :)
I haven’t read The Wild Robot, but the Wingfeather Saga is amazing! I highly, highly recommend them! Tons of adventure, courage, adversity, mythical creatures. I think it would be very worth trying them with your boys.
" Wild Robot"s so extremely trendy, I usually question why. It's almost as if it's being "pushed." Pushed by whom...lol, I'm not sure. I read one comment on some other channel from a mom who felt that there was a transhumanist agenda buried in the wholesome message of the book, which is exactly what I suspected. You know...mean old humans vs loving caring machines. The use of robots as replacements for humans and robots policing humans in the wake of this "virus," Ive never read it, but something tells me maybe Big Bro is wanting this introduced into the hearts of children. Robots are NOT what they used to be. So many agendas sneak right past in otherwise beautiful stories...and I'm feeling that from this book because of the massive push. NYT Bestsellers usually work more like " CAUTION...WARNING." I recognize it even in the classics. I just try to explain propaganda and agendas TO my boys. Teach them to spot it when they come across it. Its an old old trick. Please no offense for those who love this book. Im just over the way they come at children right in front of a parent's face, relentlessly. Each time I've picked this one up in the bookstores or put it on an order list...I've stopped myself.
I read The Wild Robot and The Wild Robot Escapes when my oldest was reading it independently, I enjoyed both books. They are quicker reads and would be worth looking into as a read Aloud.
We are enjoying the Tuttle Twins too. Also, your boys might be interested in the Bear Grylls Adventures. I think there are 13 books in the series. They are kind of like Magic Tree House except they are survival type such as The Blizzard Challenge, The River Challenge, etc. We did Farmer Boy as a read aloud and a study on what it was like during that period of time.
Ok just finished reading The Wild Robot. I do definitely think that the Author have an underlying message with the story. To me the robot goes against what its supposed to do,while bringing humanism(caring, feeling, dreaming ect..)to a robot. I dont mi d it bc my son is 9 years old and I love reading these types of books with him and having a Biblical dialogue while reading. Unfortunately the way this world is going, we cant avoid taking about AI, so took the opportunity to discuss it. However, if your child is not ready or able to understand that Biblical implications I would stay far away. FYI I dont read anything mythical to or with him bc he's not ready yet for that type of Biblical conversation.
@1kbeez1 It's the Wings of Fire book series that introduces that, not the Wingfeather Saga. The Wingfeather Saga is actually written by a Christian...just so you know 💗
When you said hatchet before I was wondering how you little one took it as I pre-read but held off for this year as a independent for my son. Like the idea of it as a read aloud where I can skip some things. Have they read my side of the mountain? My boy loved the series. Super outdoorsy.
I want to get the teen books from TuttleTwins! It’s a choose your consequence style read, like the old goosebumps style :) lol Hatchet May be a good read for us. I’m not into the robot book. It’s 👌🏻 to not be o that boat. I’ve heard very mixed reviews about it.
I HOPE YOU ARE ENJOYING THIS CURRENT SEASON....SWEET MAMA!
🌄☀️🌻💕
Absolutely LOVE the turtle twins books!!!!!!!! Love love love!!!!! Both my kids (6 and 12) like them.

Just finished Little House in the Big Woods. LOVED it. really easy to read and enjoy for all of us.
I can't wait to start this one! We just began The Year of Miss Agnes and so far we are enjoying it too!

The Wild Robot was one of my sons favorite when he was nine.
Thank you for sharing! 😃
You might check out the books that you aren't sure about from the library. Then no big deal if they aren't a hit with the boys. :)
Good idea! 😃

Intent not overload. I love that!
YES!!! Cause there's totally a difference, for sure!💕
We read the Wild Robot as a first grade read aloud a few years ago and my boy loved it!!! It is all about nature 🤗🤗🤗
Thank you for letting me know! 💕

Ohhh and little house in the big woods and farmer boy.
We have some of those bubble things lol the sound of them drives me nuts after a few minutes 🤣
Seriously?! Lol! Ours aren't loud enough to hear! Or maybe the rest of the noise drowns them out! LOL! 🤔😂
@@SimplyLivingIt I'm also super curious what state you live in and do you live in a big farm? I see you have chickens. That's cool!!

Thanks for sharing! Always looking for books to add to our homeschool. We’ve read a few of the Rush Revere books and really enjoyed them.
Yes! We have read only one...The Brave Pilgrim. I need to get the others! Thanks for reminding me!
What did you say went with the courage of Sarah noble....a Charlotte Mason thing?
Yes...let me grab the link!

My side of the mountain is a good book and there’s a sequel.
My boys who loved Hatchet are obsessed My Side of the Mountain too.
Great picks mama.. I also love books 📚😍
Thanks! 💕
Totally feel you on being off school and already feeling like I want to do school again!!
😂💕
Love Mrs Piggle Wiggle. My 1st and 2nd grade boys loved it! Great list. I will have to check out the Tuttle twins. :)
Look into the author of The Wild Robot he has a book called Fred Gets Dressed that might not be for everyone.
Great book haul! My boys loved The Sign of Th Beaver. If you try The Wild Robot, get the audible....lots of fun with all the voices. 👌

Thank you for these books suggestions!
Thank you for the inspiration!
Yes! We have those fidget toys lol so fun!
We loved “Nims Island” and then we watched the movie and compared the two. My daughter said “tell her it’s adventurous and has nature” lol
We also like the Tuttle twins
Quick answers to tough questions sound so good! I need that on my book shelf!
Great book haul! Love The Little House in the Big Woods 😀 My 10 year old read the Wingfeather saga and he really liked it. He enjoys fantasy.
Thank you for your feedback! 💕
We are almost done with the Wild Robot and it’s super cute. I have 3 boys also- ages 11,9 & 5 and they all love it. We listen to it on audiobooks in the car, I think for us the audio version adds so much interest in it for my boys 🙂
Mrs Piggle wiggle!! Omg, I totally forgot about this books! I loved those as a kid! Just added to my Amazon wish list! Thank you!
The Wild Robot was amazing and so was the Wild Robot Escapes. Both my boys loved them.
For the Tuttle twins books did you get the activity downloads that go with each? I feel like so many people miss out on them and they were free when I bought my set.
I didn't get them...I'll have to look!
can you link the mental health unit study you mentioned? I couldn't understand Tori's channel name to find it. thanks!! Love your videos btw
Oglesby Ohana

I LOVE books!!! My kids all love reading. I’m always looking for chapter books for my first grader for bedtime reads. I like to do a chapter each night. She enjoys unwinding and I love the way she is more attentive than during the day because there isn’t the other stimulation of noise/activities distracting her. Thank you for sharing your books.
Thanks for the book recommendations! I am currently reading The Year of Miss Agnes to my daughters and we are enjoying it. I added The Courage of Sarah Noble to my list, we are trying to read books that take place in each state as we learn our states and capitals!
That is an awesome idea!!!
The Green Ember is so good , I play the audio , Joel Clarkson is the narrator and he does amazing. Scribd is the BEST audio/pdf book app. It’s so inexpensive and no limits on book check out.
The Foever bubble wrap!!! My kids would love those !
YES!!!!!!! Lol! Honestly, I enjoyed them on our road trip this weekend! 🙋♀️😃
Have you guys read The green ember series?? Or The Rise and Fall of Mount Majestic?
We havent!!!!!
@@SimplyLivingIt ALLLLLL my boys from 12 down to 4 (and my girl) enjoy them tremendously!
Are you the Mom that used only the Bible one year?? 💓
Question: What age would you say “The Tuttle Twins” would be best suited for?
“My Side of the Mountain” 🏔 might be one your boys would enjoy.
Tuttle Twins are good for any age! They have young readers as well!!!!😍
We loved My Side of the Mountain, Inside Out and Back Again, Sees Behind Trees…we’ll be reading A Long Walk to Water too!
My husband has read the Wingfeather saga series himself and loved them, and he would read some outloud to our daughters as well. I've heard about those Tuttle Twins books. I'm thinking of looking into them, thanks for your input. Loved your haul!
We read The Wild Robot & Wild Robot Returns…I loved them both💗 I have 2 boys that love nature & animals & we all loved the books! I would recommend
Thank you!!!💕
Jake Maddox has a hunting and a fishing book that my son has and loves!! Also, our very favorite read aloud in our homeschool was "Grandpa's Box"
Thank you for mentioning both!!!!💕
I’m using Sonlight for the first time soon and their book list is great.
Where is that link for the toy?
www.amazon.com/dp/B08V49QYCR/?ref=idea_dp_
Here's the link, mama! 💕
The Tuttle Twins book pack is just their combo pack. I didn't buy the extra resources yet...just the books!
@@SimplyLivingIt I ordered the set this morning. This will especially be perfect for my high schooler for who will be doing government and economics. Can’t wait to dive in, thank you for the recommendation.
My daughter requested the bubble pop sensory toy yesterday so I added that to the cart, lol. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE BOOKS! ❤
My boys love those sensory poppers. We love love books.
My hunting boy is sitting beside me and absolutely loves wingfeather. There is a lot of outdoor adventures in it.
Thanks for sharing
It might have been me. This is why we aren't reading it..transhumanist agenda. Be careful moms.
We read it but it wasn't our favorite either.
That’s a super interesting perspective. I didn’t perceive the books that way at all and I’m extremely careful about what we read in our home.
Interesting. I didn't get this message from the book but definitely an interesting perspective. It was good but not one of my kid's favorites.
Have you read My Side of the Mountain? If not you should. Your boys would love it. We have a similar lifestyle and my girls love it.
I read The Wild Robot and The Wild Robot Escapes when my oldest was reading it independently, I enjoyed both books. They are quicker reads and would be worth looking into as a read Aloud.
Thank you!
We have read mr. Poppers penguin and then saw movie
YES! I think we need a movie date for sure!😍
Farmer Boy....I always forget about that one! YES!!!!!!
They are working on a tv series as well
Thank you for sharing.
My girls enjoyed the year of miss agnes. We just recently read it. Let me know how your boys like mr poppers penguins.
My boys love Mr. Popper's Penguins, the movie...but we've never read the book so we will see!!!😍
We have never seen it. I might read the book and then we watch the movie and do a comparison?!?
Thank you for sharing this! 💕
@1kbeez1 It's the Wings of Fire book series that introduces that, not the Wingfeather Saga. The Wingfeather Saga is actually written by a Christian...just so you know 💗
@@carlyk4532 Thanks so much for clearing that 4 me
Pages and co the bookwanders is good. Also look up lemoncallo
Thank you!
When you said hatchet before I was wondering how you little one took it as I pre-read but held off for this year as a independent for my son. Like the idea of it as a read aloud where I can skip some things.
Have they read my side of the mountain? My boy loved the series. Super outdoorsy.
Love it!!!
You look amazing! You look like you lost weight!!!! What have you been doing 🥰😍😍😍
You are too kind!!!! 💕 Thank you!!!!!! I haven't changed a thing...just resting, mama!!!!!💕🤗
We try to read alot.
I want to get the teen books from TuttleTwins! It’s a choose your consequence style read, like the old goosebumps style :) lol
Hatchet May be a good read for us.
I’m not into the robot book. It’s 👌🏻 to not be o that boat. I’ve heard very mixed reviews about it.
