I have had this jacket for 2 years now in the same color. With a wool base layer, this jacket and vortex shell I stay warm down to -15 with wind chill.
Their customer service is second to none as well. Clothing quality is amazing, while it's hard for many to justify, it is worth the cost especially if you catch a sale or get a discount. As an Arc'teryx owner who isn't wealthy, they're absolutely my preferred brand. I buy clothes to wear for years, not as styles change. Their clothes also hold value used, which nearly no other brand can match.
The design of this jacket is for warfighters. The whole purpose of the pocket layout is so that the jacket doesn’t interfere with your PPE(personal protective equipment-ie:sidearm,spare magazines,IFAK,flashlight.)and if you have a harness on,it is out of the way of that as well.
This is the best jacket I've ever owned and I owned a lot of hunting/tactical/outdoor jackets in the last 7 years. Unfortunately sold out completely in the EU / Germany..if anyone has a secret shop where to get it in size M please let me know..
This jacket is not Gore Tex-which is waterproof. It has Gore Wind Stopper-which is windproof and breathable, but neg on the waterproof aspect. This in conjunction with the Alpha SV or LEAF Alpha jacket is the total package of wind and waterproof.
Haha mostly correct, yup! Though the full name of that tech is actually GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® - which is water resistant, but yup, not waterproof.
Last Line Of Defense BTW Mike,I was issued my Arc’teryx Leaf Alpha jacket and full baselayer and middies before deployment to the sandbox in 04 and they saved my life way up in the Hindu Kush range when the weather went from 85 and sunny at Bagram, and dropped to 10 degrees and snowed for 3 days up in the mountains.
The retail used to be $329 on these in 2017. Mine is holding up well, in the middle of its third winter. Seems they increased it to $389. Lots of sites usually have Memorial/Veteran/July 4th sales that take 20%-30% off LEAF products but they go quick. Gotta be fast!
That jacket, or really the whole Leaf line fits hugh on me. I’m a large across the board with Arc, some fits trimmer than others but leaf is like a XL on me.
I got a great deal on one of these. Granted, it's a little large (I'm 6'5" but skinny. Usually wear L, rarely XL) in XL and it's the version without the hood, but it's a fantastic jacket for which I would have happily paid full price, but I didn't even have to do that. It's basically the only jacket I've worn all winter, because it's damn comfy, very light, relatively thin and packable, never cold, rarely hot and looks cool as hell. I also really appreciate the anti-odor properties it seems to have. Like I said, I've been wearing it near-daily since November (it's mid Feb. now) and it still smells like... well, like nothing. It doesn't have a smell and also doesn't seem to absorb those of the wearer or the environment. That's a good thing, considering it's a jacket meant for military applications where the enemy isn't supposed to smell your sweaty ass from a mile away. Great review, can only agree!
I am the same height and skinny (170 lbs) but am worried about dropping that much on a jacket and it maybe not fitting... I wish they made clothes in medium but xxl length. I will probably get the xl.
I have a handful of Arc’teryx stuff...great quality stuff. I have the Cold WX jacket (non-hoody). It is my favorite jacket I own. Lightweight and super warm.
Whats the difference between the LEAF Atom LT hoodie and this jacket? Besides the price and the zippered pockets on the arms? Different outer shell too I think....
Atom LT has no insulation on the side panels, is not Gore Windstopper, and is better geared to higher output activities, as it's more breathable. if you get a bit of a sweat on in the Atom LT, and you have to remain still, and there's a strong cold wind, you'll feel it through the side panels. The Atom benefits from a windbreaker or waterproof at those times just to retain heat and allow to dry off. Not a problem you'll get with the WX LT. Horses for courses.
Do you wear this jacket as an active insulation layer or a stationary layer? I’d probably get the cold shoulder despite wearing warm base-and mid-layers. Active insulation layers like this are great if you are exerting yourself in the cold; otherwise, you’re likely to get a wicked chill.
I’ve never bought an Arcteryx leaf jacket before, i’m 5’5 but broad with a 42 inch chest. If anyone could recommend whether it would be worth getting a medium or large it would be much appreciated. The leaf range sells out incredibly quick in the UK so returning for a bigger size might not be an option for me. Thanks.

callofduty60 I’m 5’10” my weight ranges from 160-185lbs, I’ve bought the sv base layer in medium and it’s very tight. I’ve got everything else in large, from the normal base layer, the atom mid layers, the sv cold weather jacket/pants, and the alpha jacket pants, all in large. I’d definitely recommend a large!! But if your wanting the alpha jacket/pants, know they are sized to allow for layers. My point is if I wear the alpha jacket/pants by themselves, no layers underneath, the large is rather loose/ big. So if you’d just want a bomb proof rain jacket then you may like the medium in that particular product. But with all the layers on you can still move, and I mean move! Like no other cold weather gear I’ve ever worn!! But if I was you I’d go large and just deal with the extra size in the summer and go with a large through they’re entire product line.
