The only martyrs that I personally know were two Protestant missionary friends of mine, and they were missionaries to Haiti. They were just killed in May. They were good kids, and I can't imagine a higher honor than the one bestowed upon them.
I'm leaving this comment about 2 minutes into the video, and I'm going to look really stupid now if they get mentioned in the video and I left this comment instead of saying, "Yeah, I knew those kids!"

Never heard Fathers rebuttal to the "bad white European Christian roots" argument till now: early church fathers are of African descent, and they had tremendous influence on the culture of the church

About European catholicism compared to American catholicism: as a European I know that there are a lot of movements where people find home and guidance. But the strength of Americans or just English speaking cultures is somehow the story telling, and wording. At least in my observation. I not only like to listen to English catholic content but I also prefer to read English literature and watch English movies. So I gues it has something to do with language, culture and heritage. and the Internet and tech serve to propel these contents to a worldwide level

At 2:39, Father talks about looking at others with REVERENCE. Frank Sheed has a great quote in Society and Sanity....."That which we do not revere, we will profane."
May God help me (and all of us) to revere the Lord and my fellow man, AND myself.

Very good interview Fr. Louis is awesome! I would like to offer a bit of historical context for the Pope Nicholas part to hopefully help with the confusion. In the period of Christendom subjugation had a different connotation than it had now. Since the concept of nationalism didn't come about until the 19th century there was no concept of citizenship. So for example you wouldn't consider yourself a citizen of Spain you would instead be a subject of His Majesty King Ferdinand III. If you were a subject of a king it just meant that you were under his protection and in return you would serve your king. So when people like Pope Nicholas or Christopher Columbus refer to subjugation they are wanting to bring them into a Christian "nation". They saw these Africans, Saracens, Native Americans, etc. as equals to the people in Europe. They saw them as a people created in God's own image that were worthy of being subjects (or citizens to use a modern comparison) of a Christian king.

Thing I am trying currently when waiting on the busy street is to instead of fighting my gaze and being on defense with beautiful woman I try to pay attention to people, which are elderly or not that pretty and say to the Lord: please Lord bless those on which my eyes look. And somehow I start to see so much more depth in the persons Ive never seen before. Thank You my lord!
