Great to hear that stuff is selling. Your prices sound pretty reasonable to me taking into the account the work you put in to growing them and preparing them for the honesty stall. The majority of people are honest but you will always get the one or two sods who aren't. Hope they got a puncture on their way home!!!
Hi Geoff. Your honesty stand looks amazing! Those beets look great there. I'm so glad that you agree not downhearted by the theft, I think as you do- if someone is stealing food then that is one thing and if a person were that desperate I'd give them some eggs of whatever but stealing flowers- sheesh! I admire your philosophy in your test year. More power to ya. Best. Johnny. North West England.
I find with honesty boxes, you often have gone passed it before you see it. Have you thought of putting one or two small signs on the approach, to warn people it's there to give them chance to slow down and pull in. Locals will get to know it's there but you may pick up more passing trade.
Yes, definitely. Takes a while to register and then a few more days/passes for people to stop. Unfortunately the land preceeding it doesn't belong to me so can't put signs up but I've sold out most days so not a bad start!
Your costs for a farmers market also need to include for fuel to get there and your time, a mornings time at a market is a significant cost. Blackboards are super easy to make yourself and work out much cheaper.
That is such a good sign that you made sales in your first days! It often takes me a few trips to register a new stand and what it has on offer before I stop. Your stand looks just beautiful. Re the theft... Is it possible the person who took flowers did pay for them, and someone else just took the cash? Not okay in any case, but would mean the flowers were taken on the up and up.
Yes, thats what I think too ... its only been up 5 days. Takes a while for people to see it and then make an effort to stop. Re the money ... the honesty box is like a letter box so they wouldn't have been able to get money out easily.
Mostly positive! To sell in your first few days is brilliant. Getting that someone took the flowers, though. Hopefully that's just a bit of bad luck and the majority of people stopping by will be honest and lovely.
Yeah, I think its just bad luck and opportunists! I'm not too upset; I had to cut the flowers any way to promote more buds so I havent really lost anything. 😊
Do you know Kohlrabi? It is very popular in Germany, lovely sweetish radish style. Kohl -cabbage rabi/ruebe - radish/beet. I love Kohlrabi, but they are usually so expensive!!! Need succession seeding and do not grot too big, or they get woody.
@@BrimwoodFarm very easy. I started them off in modules I'm the greenhouse and transplanted to my raised beds, under a mesh (but I do seem to have more butterflies under than over the mesh lol). I've used square foot planting or four kohlrabi per square and that's working out to be just right. I think it's worth going for next year. It's the sort of thing that sets you apart from other places.
Think that's a good plan About being pricer for farmers markets people go there expecting to spend more. Shame about your flowers getting nicked ...there always some bugger. Glad it's going well otherwise
Look forward to your vids everyday! Its really calming to watch sitting inside a tiny flat in a hustling city. Thanks for the amazing experience!
Thank you so much! 😊
So excited for you that things are selling - and the universe will get even with the the flower theif!

Fantastic that you are beginning to sell your produce. ♥️ your cupboard- it all looks beautifully presented. 🏆 x
Its a thrill to start selling finally!

Yeah, I expected thefts to happen. Sadly part of life! But other honest people make it better.
It looks brilliant. Sorry to hear about the theft. You’re prices sound good to me. Shame I’m not closer I’d be buying those beautiful flowers 💐
That was really interesting - as you establish the stall ppl will keep coming.
Put sign out on the corners down the road

Very true re the market costs. Hadnt thought about making black boards ... might have to give it a go!

Keep going. You’re doing great!
Thanks Tracy 😊
Still waiting on the update on the toasted marshmallow silkies. You need to ship me some eggs.
Bit of a wait on that as the cockerel has been ill and so no fertile eggs!
Did you have to do salmonella test for the eggs in order to sell them?
Only if you have a certain number of hens - i think its 350.
@@BrimwoodFarm Thanks, because I wasn’t sure.

Yes! I've never grown it but it's on the list for next year. I think its a fantastic plant and beautifully weird too.
I'm growing kohlrabi for the first time this year and it's proven to be successful. Yet to try cooking it though!
@@elegantsufficiency2866 such a weird vegetable isn't it?! How easy was it to grow?

Sorry for typos; my phone has a mind of its own.
Believe me I will make all the mistakes you have 🤣
🤣 Well I tried ... 🤣

Slap a Venmo or cash app sticker on your stand that way people can pay with phone and you don’t get robbed
Beet tops are kinda the best part
