At our Farm Stand here in Maine, we remove everything from the stand at night and unlock & leave open the cash drop box. That way the only thing to steal from the Stand is the stand itself. lol. I had one lady and her husband that came everyday and stole veggies, and after the 4th day i put a sign up with a note to them ,a car description and license plate number so everyone could read it. When I came to stock and open the stand two days after, there was $21.00 in cash laying in the cash box.
MzProgressive: I live in NH and I still do that. I also take my half-gallon Mason jars into the milk house and fill them with organic raw milk right from the tank (if I can get there before the milk truck lol) and then drop the money into the tin cup. Oh, and I "pay" the farm dog with a biscuit when I go too. LOL
Alburgh...you have to visit it to understand. We've bought veggies at 3 am and here's the best way. Drive up to the stand, turn on bright lights, go shopping. No line, no waiting, just pay and go. Thanks Heather.
Oh, I really love this!! Best of luck for the success of your farm! And I can totally see where the horseshoe drive on a busy road is a lure in itself. :D Not to mention the 24/7 fresh farm market aspect with 'no waiting' - special! Hehe - I kept waiting for one of the customers on the video to show up with their own market bags.
@virtualDavis They are in Alburgh, VT - which is in the northwest corner of the state - nestled against NY and Canada, along Route 2. Drive up and check them out sometime. Really nice people!
This is an inspirational story. I'm wondering where you are in Vermont. Would love to swing by! We used to have a similar farm stand near us in Essex, NY that was run by the Sayward family for many, many years, but it closed up a few summers ago. Still miss it!
One person for the thumbs down on this? Must have been the douchebag that stole the money box. Keep up the great work I wish there were more people like you doing the things you're doing.

One of my fondest memories of New Hampshire was buying fresh eggs at a roadside "on your honor" cooler. Very zen.
