had no issues since shortening / slackening off the wire , no difference in performance , both my collars are coming up 3 years old now and still going strong

Could you have used a chicago screw to connect the collar & the piece you cut in half to shorten the whole assembly, instead of using the zip ties to keep the orange part from riding up the collar - that would have done the trick right?
What happens if you just totally removed the “whip” antenna?

you can buy aftermarket replacement gps antenna. they have nylon protecting the wire.They are way more durable. i have done 2 tt5s and tt10s
