Every time I come back to watch this I notice more and more mistakes. This is like 80 % true, I understand it may sound close enough... but it's not! the little things... missing notes... My advice to everyone is please listen to the original recordings, compare yourselves and maybe come back with corrections! I might as well do a revision soon.
you may be right, but it sounds pretty authentic to me. if you would play this version live, i do not think that anyone would notice. in the live concerts, it was often improvised on a similar theme.
Its the 2 stroke version of light my fire kx500, revs slower with more low end torque! Jim designed his own 2 stroke crankcase scavened diesdels like the Sachs DL600 and field marshall tractor!
I've just spent about 2-3 hours total watching this video over and over and now I can play it all the way through with both hands! Thanks so much - it must have taken you a long time figuring it out!
Hey, thanks for watching and sorry for replying until now :D I have been learning it, I started when I was around 18 so by the time I made this video I had already practiced it for a few years. Now that I listen to it again I recognise more flaws than I could before...
Manzerek used a Vox Continental when he played live. But during the recording of the song in the studio im sure he used something else instead of Vox. Im not sure but i know this shit here sounds just exactly like the cassette/studio recording. Legit and very very precise!
For those asking how it sounds so close to the original I have figured it out. The original recording is tuned down about a half step. If you play around with the tuning options on the vst you can get pretty close to the original recording.
Nice effort, some subtle things I took away from this. I really struggle to not stuff up once it switches to thirds... and zero chance of my playing both hands at once. Still fun to just jam the right hand.
It's just a matter of practise man, do it at a slow tempo and increase it gradually and you'll master it! Thanks for watching and I'm glad this has been helpful.
Light My Fire is a great song, but it's not easy to learn. I would've slowed this down by 50% because if people need this to learn it, that means they can't read music and if they can't read music, they simply are not going to be able to follow you at 100 BPM or even 90 BPM, you almost have to play this in slow motion AND explain over it what you're actually doing. A basically knowledge of the keys is almost a necessity here.
I learnt this by ear, I didn't know music notation or theory when I learnt to play this. But well, the amount of likes and positive comments tells a different story. I think maybe people with good ear and who has been playing a few things has found this useful. Also you can slow down any YT video if you access TH-cam from a desktop browser.
W O W Amazing ! Any chance of uploading the organ part that goes with the guitar solo, PLEASE? That background organ is a solo in itself. Can I push it and perhaps the whole song?
Scott Robson No, but it's just a matter of practise, try playing it slow and gradually increase the speed. Thanks for watching and I hope this had been useful!
Porque los que suenan más parecido nunca tienen una partitura? Que tristeza nunca voy a poder tocar esto sin la partitura correspondiente y las que están en Internet son una cagada ;(
BridgeIsSky Lo mismo me pasó. Buscaba y buscaba... y nada.

It may not be perfect but it sounds great to me. I’ve seen videos of the Doors in concert and when they played light my fire the organ lead sounds very different from the original. Have a great time in Mexico, we’re going to Merida next week, if I see there I’ll buy you a beer 😄

Your intro is slightly off. By like one note throughout. I have the original LP for 40 yrs now and I can't tell you what that note is, but otherwise it's okay, but it's NOT a note-for-note version. Close but not actually Ray's version.
Sam69, the basic scale is G major as Amin7 and Bmin7 (the solo chords) are chords derived from the G major scale (each chord starting from the respective note- A or B -and developed by stacking in 3rds using tones from the G scale (G, A, B,C, D, E, F#, G) For example, Amin 7 = A, C, E, G. That being said, you can also use a D pentatonic scale here. That is how Manzarek gets that almost outside sound. He took this idea I am pretty sure from from John Coletrane. So start on any note in an Amin 7 or B min 7 but play a D maj 5 note pentatonic scale (D, E, F#, A, B, D- octave). Once you understand this, you are not limited to Ray's great solo that is so well played here. Good luck.
Every time I come back to watch this I notice more and more mistakes. This is like 80 % true, I understand it may sound close enough... but it's not! the little things... missing notes... Incredible performance
