I liked how in the original AoE the bodies decayed into skeletons first. In DE, they just sort of fall through the ground.
You’re right. I have a vivid memory of a close family friend (who had experienced war) watching me play as Teutons. I distinctly remember him saying “That must smell bad” as I was looking at a bunch of dead Teutonic Knights/other units in various states of decay.
Yeah, I'm a lot more annoyed than I should be at DE not bothering to add that detail lol. It's even worse in AoE4, where the polygons of the bodies just disappear in a snap

I always liked the death animations of enemy Villagers when they get killed by a surprise Archer attack unleashed from 3 Archery Ranges on a neutral island.

Camels was always my favorite. The noise and the rider being flug off the mount while the camel just flops over makes me laugh
I remember that aok animation. At a certain angle the rider would get tossed a full 2 meters from the camel. It was awesome
Furious not exploding like he did before DE was a shocking disappointment to me.
2:50 Konniks are what sold me on the new civs going from HD to DE. I don't know if I saw from a trailer or SOTL, but just the concept a knight dying then getting back up with the animation and everything was so cool at that time.

I think the funniest death animation I’ve seen in an RTS is one from Empire Earth. I don’t remember which unit it was - think it was a unique spearman unit - but it was a spearman who, once reduced to 0 hit points, would plant their spear into the group vertically and then would take a full leap onto it and just hang there above the ground on the spear.
It was so sudden, unexpected, and shocking when I realized what it was doing that I couldn’t help but laugh at it especially after confirming I wasn’t seeing things.
I think it was a japanese spear unit, like an ashigaru or something. I remember having whole forests of the impaled dudes...

Still waiting for my EE definitive edition.
I miss the skeletons left behind on the map for the rest of the game in Age of Kings. It was a nice and realistic addition which added somber weight to the proceedings when the fallen were still there, 100+ in-game years later.
I miss those skeletons too, but apart from decorative skeletons, they did not stay all game.

@@matthew3950 There are a couple mods in-game that make bodies stay around for a lot longer. Then there’s another for like…”blood duration” or something. Really adds to the feeling that a battle has taken place. I’m pretty sure the one I use is called “Visible Corpses”.
Skeletons lying there are actually a bit unrealistic. By the time the body fully decays like that the body parts would either be carried away by animals or mostly buried by the ground

OMG, that's exactly what I needed to see xD. As a AoE3 player, I'd also like to say that the cannon shot deaths in that game are BOMB, literally. :D

The bombard cannons guys lunge and jump onto the cannon as they die is funny looking too. Or the elephant trunks swinging around

I really like this video idea and videos like this where you just talk about stuff in the game instead of casting a game. I’ve played this game for decades and never knew there were so many unique death animations. Although I assume the newer editions of the game have added to it considerably?

I always found either the cavalier or paladin having the most satisfying death animation in original and HD so that would be a good one to do for a follow up video

Hope nobody judges me but back in the days when I was a kid, my favorite thing to do in AOE2 is put a bunch of Joan of Arc (The mounted version) on map using ME and delete them one by one just to watch the death animation.
Too bad that the old AOE doesn't have the Amazon archer. But what I don't like about the DE animation is the siege animation. They look like they are made out of china in DE, they just looks more realistic in the original.

ok i have i question. I do not play AOE2 a lot so i cant be sure. What if u have konnik and heresy and monks convert him? Are both die? Or or monk just convinced horse yo change religion and she died after that and now u need to do it for a rider too?

@@AeSAcidic Which one? AoE2 released in 1999 and RuneScape in 2001, the tracks in DE are all arrangements of ones from 1999. It's possible the arrangement was made to sound more like a RuneScape track, but if not then that would mean an artist from RuneScape got their inspiration from AoE2

I looked at the title and thought , Ahh T90 finally lost it. MOST SATISFYING DEATH - who enjoys that except for a lunatic who lost his marbles casting aoe 2 all day everyday.
@T90 maybe do a techtree death, so start with dark age unit and make your way to imperial.

Bring the skeletons back. Just call necromancer hero from homm3 if needed or from diablo. But bring them back
