- One of the most common problems associated with paint jobs is peeling paint. Many painting jobs are actually requested as a result of peeling paint and therefore the most common question asked is “how do you prevent peeling paint?” Unfortunately, the answer to this question is not straight forward. For paint to peel it can be a result of many different causes, but it is basically where paint cannot get a proper grip on the substrate (surface) itself.
1. Moisture and Water
Peeling paint is most commonly created when water gets under the paint. Therefore, the most common areas for peeling paint to occur are in the wet areas of the structure, such as bathroom, laundry, and kitchens. However, there may be other issues with the premises such as excess humidity on air-conditioned areas, leaky roof, and lack of positive-side waterproofing.
2. Inadequate Preparation
Before a paint job begins it is essential to ensure the area to be painted is cleaned with mild soap solutions and allowed to dry completely. Dirty walls are a precursor to peeling paint and will most definitely lead to peeling paint. If a coat of paint is applied over a dirty surface, it is almost guaranteed to peel or crack in the future. It is also important that a good primer is used in the preparation phase to help assure adhesion of the paint. Sometimes an incorrect primer is used, or the problem could be simpler - no primer at all was used.
3. Age and Deterioration
Paint does not last forever. Like all of us a paint job ages and this is the simplest cause of peeling paint. If the paint has been exposed to the elements and exterior forces, it will eventually suffer from wear and tear. The extent of damage can worsen as the paint ages.
4. Lack of Binder
Sometimes, the paint used lacks the binder ingredient the holds the pigments and fillers together. With a poor quality paint, problems in peeling or chalking will arise sooner or later.
Repainting walls with chalky or loose paint has always been a laborious task. Traditionally, people use paint strippers and manually scrape off all the paint before recoating the wall.
Fortunately, you don't have to go through all of that anymore. After watching this, you'll discover a better way to restore chalky/flaking paint before repainting your wall.

Hi, thank you for your inquiry. First, you have to know why does the paint is peeling off. Maybe there is moisture and you need to apply waterproofing paint on the exterior. After making sure that the exterior wall is waterproofed, we advise to removed and replaced the enamel paint.

Hi, thank you for your inquiry. Skim coat must be applied on bare concrete substrate to have good adhesion. It will not adhere to polymer based putty because of its smooth surface. It will also loose its adhesion strength and will cause powdering if applied to primed or coated wall.
The only option is to remove the existing paint and use Tofil 802 gray to achieve a cement finish walls.

Application:
1. Lightly scrape off loose and flaking paint.
2. Remove dirt, grease, powdery surfaces, and chalky paint.
3. Fill nail holes, cracks, and other imperfections with a suitable filler.
4. Sand smooth and dust down using a brush.
5. Apply Tofil 806 before the application of subsequent topcoats.

PUTTY MASTER Application:
1. Ensure that the substrate is clean and free from any type of
contaminants.
2. Using a spatula or a putty knife, apply the first coat of Putty Master
on the susbtrate.
3. Remove excess materials after the first coat.
4. Apply another coat until it covers the previous coat.
5. Dried surface can be sanded to further smoothen the surface.
Dusts can be removed usign a wet sponge.

Hi, thank you for your inquiry. There are some factors why the paint is peeling off the wall. Maybe because of moisture or the paints used is not appropriate for the area of application. The common reason is because of moisture. We recommend applying waterproofing materials on the exterior side first before painting the interior.
