- These random accounts are popping up on every corner of Discord. Every Discord server has a couple of accounts that are eerily similar. An account made on the same day that joined the server on the same day. And the most telling thing, an "About Me" filled with a random quote.
But what is the point of these bots? Is it to spy on you? Is it to train AI? Is it to just boost the member count of the server? Will I ever stop asking questions? No, watch the video and find out :)
Hint, it involves something with Discord Nitro.

6:00 When i watched that part, i was like "aint no way ntts showed us how to steal nitro from our own server 💀" but then i realized that if someone sends nitro in public, anyone, including those bots, can get the nitro and may use it for bad puporses like selling it, scamming, etc. So it's better that only the staff get the nitro because they are trustable and wont do anything wrong with it. Anyways if someone sends nitro in public, they know that they are doing

Maybe just create an option in the onboard menu, called something like "This role is kicking you from the server" and the bots will kicking himself

@@shadowimpostor1990 eventually they would but if you named the joke role smth like "beanpics" (then made a real chat the role can access) then also set the role up so it can only see that chat....for a while the bots would all mark themselves and you can kick all users with the beanpics role....either automatically or manually
You could also make a role called "click to be banned" the bots would auto click it and any humans who click it had it coming

i joined a server a couple months ago with that and as i joined i saw someone get banned from it, whether it was a bot or a person i'll never know, but it works
i'd probably be like "..but does it actually ban you? hmmmmmmmm". there should be a disclaimer saying "Yes, this does actually ban you and it's a measure to prevent nitro-sniping bots from joining our server.". or better yet it should just hide access to channels tbh

In a server where I was, 4 of these bot accounts joined. Not even like 3 days later 4 of the servers mods got banned for "being underage", which definitely wasnt true. The account deletions only stopped after the bots were kicked, so maybe theyre mass report bots?
I think there's many different bots. Maybe these ones are part of a big service that offers many different things like sniping, reporting, etc etc.
Sniping nitro seems like a better option for those people
There's no way the server staff would trust random people who joined 3 days ago, unless they're stupid. That's really weird.

@@Atsoboi I mean like, pretend you're a staff member. The team receives mass reports that certain staff members are underage. It's weird, obviously. You're first gonna check who these people are, and you see they all joined the server fairly recently. Ain't no way all of them know the staff members that well. You're not gonna take these reports seriously until one of them responds with proof, which they aren't going to, because they're bots. You don't just randomly ban like 3 staff members based on nothing. I don't doubt that this happened, but it's just really weird if they did it just based off of reports.
This reminds me of a time when I noticed something possibly similar happening on TH-cam. Generated or hacked accounts would go on popular videos, such as MrBeast's videos, and type out quotes. The quotes didn't make any sense but they were structured the same way. I lost my screenshots of them a while back, but some examples I made just now, so you understand what I mean:
"The great gelatinous dolphin climbs the orange spotted tree. Big, lovely ectoplasm."
"The scary mountain-filled spaghetti mirrors an unusual green elephant. Monstrous, plentiful orangutang."
Just one per comment, and the accounts looked generated like this Discord thing. I never got an answer for this though.
I saw this too. So weird. Probably bots trying to use human language in their comments so their comment history will look human to the TH-cam bots?
@@calyxman it might be something similar. If you have an account frequently posting comments and watching videos for something like 2 years then for the youtube's AI those accounts would seem less likely to be bots

whilst i am not sure why the comments are phrased that way (they do resemble a pangram, though without all of the letters of the English alphabet), or similar to a poem (not quite a haiku due to the syllable count being very high)
usually i see stuff like this paired with something that entices you to click the username (for example "DONT CLICK MY PROFILE!!!" or some other TOS breaking name) to lead to a different site or whatever, leading to phishing info.
@@notsam2270 That's the usual bot tactic, and these don't do that. In fact they don't try to make the user do anything or click on anything, which is why I originally thought it was something like "oh yeah yeah" or "the waffle house has found its new its new host", a creator telling people to do weird things in the comments. But no, apparently it is bot activity.

Glad to see it being covered by you now, nice to have confirmation of what they are. We weren't sure if they were raiders setting up an attack, just plain bot accounts, or what, so this video was really helpful.

If you can't purge them because they're busy, just use a script with a filter function. Set up Filters that only Catch these bots (by requiring specific conditions) and do a foreach loop that kicks them
NTTS is not a programmer, and I doubt most of the viewers know how to code either.

Watched this video, checked my discord and found a bunch of them.
But I found a more effective solution it seems, to join my discord you have to react to a message and it seems that none of the bots did this, meaning I could simply look through all the people who haven't reacted and look for those silly quotes.

I’ve had this feature on any Discord I’ve ever created (Servers for Game Hosting, my private Discord with friends + mutuals) and I 100% recommend it!
Filters out all of the “spam bots”, after that it’s just the manual trolls you gotta deal with.
Yes, in my server you have to send a message in order to get the role to become a normal member, so I consider that an effective method as well.
I have it so you type /verify for more security like if my servers ever gets big,to avoid bots
Yeah, most bots in our server don't have any roles, but one of them did take all of the reaction roles, so I guess it varies

8:00 another idea here is to add a specific role telling members not to click or they get kicked, so when the bots select the role, you will be sure the bots are the only one with the role that are being kicked
Spent the morning trying to figure out who or what these accounts were that joined my server last night. Put them in discord jail (channel I made) and started asking my community the same questions. Later in the day I noticed you had a new vid out... started watching and said "Hey! these are the same accounts in my server!". Just wanted to thank you. Your channel has really up'd my discord game.
Found your channel after I got raided one time and it nearly destroyed my server! Never again with Wick and Beemo credit to you for getting those vids out too!
Unless I've understood it wrong. Couldn't you set a notification category that is literally called "Tick this field to be kicked from the server." Have said role be the sole role access to a channel and just have a filtered list of who to kick? Or just have a bot auto kick said role.
that would actually be really good prevention, the only people ticking it are the quote bots and people curious enough to test it
As someone dealing with these bots, it won't necessarily work all the time. Some add reactions, others don't, and even when they do they don't react to everything. It's generally easy enough to do this all manually. DM them asking for a response if they match the pattern, and if they don't respond after a given amount of time, kick/ban them.

people normally do that in public chats as some giveaway shtick, so yeah I think letting the server mods have it all is way better then having those snipers get it

7:52 A good trick could also be to make a role and option that people shouldn't click. Like a "DON'T CLICK THIS!" with the description as to why (That this is to catch automated accounts) and then you could purge all accounts that have this specific role.
It should make it a bit easier to detect and remove automated accounts because I doubt they have a way to recognize specific options and even then they couldn't reconize all the possible namings there are.
Hello I am a mod in an art server and we’ve had a lot of issues with people with quotes on new accounts joining the server. We have an into system in place to verify users upon joining which avoids allowing these bots from staying, and users are kicked after a few days if not posting an intro. This video is very helpful to the staff team, thank you very much for it, we’re not sure what they’re for as none of our members have reported being DMed by them, and the channels visible to unverified members are limited. We’re guessing it’s for NFT reasons, as earlier stated, and the bots are just there to increase member count. Most of the bots we get go inactive within the first 15 ish minutes of joining, and half the time show as mobile users when online. Don’t know if this information will help, but I’ll give it to you anyway 😂

I'm totally down for a nft activity bot video. These videos are just the right mix of time and information that they are like crack to me, so I'll end up watching it either way
Id like to say something. Some of these bots can be used for raiding discord servers. I know someone who owns a token shop and raiding tool and these bots that are joining with these bios are normally just tokens either used to nitro snipe, or raid a server. If its a lot of them joining, its probably a raid. The reason why they stay is most of the time because the raider gets too lazy to make them leave after either a failed or successful attempt and just leaves them in the server.
Honestly, mentioning the automod trick so mods get the nitro instead is one of the most based things I've witnessed
Its genius, i know people will say its wrong for people nitro gifts gets snipe by server owner but why would you want to send gifts to a public chat anyway?
@@glaphany- The way I see it, if someone is posting a nitro gift link in a public chat anyone on the server can access, then that person does not care who grabs the link, and, so, a mod grabbing instead is fair game imo. After all, DMs exist, so if they *really* wanted a specific person to grab it they'd just send the link via DM.

Bro, that's exactly what I've noticed in my server. A ton of accounts with weird profile pictures, weird names and some random quote from some unknown person have been joining my server for a few months now and it's really weird. I haven't really looked at the join dates, but the most recent one joined Discord on April 9th, 2023 (which is the server join date shown on the video). Very weird.

I made an alt account similar to this one last month so I could join more servers (I'm too poor to buy nitro). I found a random quote on Google and placed it into my bio. I just thought that was cool haha. Fortunately, none of the servers I've joined have banned me. Maybe I should change my bio before admins and mods see this video and ban me. lol

A really good way to find these bots is by putting a role that literally says "Don't click if you're not a bot" and just hope that no idiot clicks it. and when someone does get the role you can just kick them or message them and then kick them.
It's very easy to spot them with that.

I don't know how relevant it is but I find it interesting that these "quote" discord bots started popping up at the same time I started getting mass spambot followers (like 50 in about two weeks) on reddit whose only activity are a single quote posted in a random quote subreddit.
I think its just the COD devs seeing which new historical quote is the most well recieved so they can put it in their next cod game death text.
In one server im in one of the onboarding tasks is "DO NOT CLICK" to filter out bots who auto select them all to easily filter them out
Huh, we have some of the quote bots in our server, however, with different account creation dates (ranging from February to April). I was fairly confused about their purpose, especially since they didn't spam
It would also be useful to add a role thats called something like *do not pick this role, you will be kicked* so when these accounts pick all the roles when joining theyll also pick that one so you can differentiate them from the crowd (since if a real person reads the name of the role they would just not pick it, unless theyre trying to see if it would actually get them kicked)

A way around the pruning is to just have one called "do not select, bots only" or something. The bots will click it obviously, and you can kick anyone who has the role linked to that selection
Pruning does nothing (unless the accounts are already banned/abandoned) because their whole point is to actively read messages. So if they are offline how are they supposed to do their job at sniping links? Also, having multiple accounts per server is stupid when It comes to sniping since you receive all messages from all (visible to you) channels from all servers at all times. Using more than one account per server is just wasteful IMO. So there might be more stuff that's happening here.

i just had an idea.. create an onboard option that only those bots choose (since they choose everything) and everyone who gets that role will be banned in the next 10-30 minutes after they choose it
there is another thing you can do with the roles people can assign make a verification quesiton that if one presses no they will receive a blacklist role which will give them access to 1 (usually an explanation channel for if its a mistake and a genuine user) or no channels
I have an idea: make a role that says bot and on the top says “Click if you are a bot” and since those bots select all the roles in your server, you can just purge all of those who selected that role (and the random human who clicks it too lol)
It could be that, or it could be a metadata scraper, if it gets data about all servers it has data about who is in what servers, you can then literally search for user id and find stuff like all their friends, all their past usernames, what servers they are in, etc.
This has actually happened before, and is (likely) still going on currently
I have an idea, make an actual verification chat instead of reaction rules make a channel where someone has to verify if they are not a bot, when they are done a mod or higher has to give them the role to have access to the rest of the server except moderators only channels.

Please do the video about NFTs, I love how bad NFTs pages/discord can get, it's quality content because often the scammers are not very smart.
Add a button to the welcome page that says "click to get banned". It gives you a role that tells mods / automod or whatever to ban you.

The guy amvast who made that token logger, put a stealer called "hazard stealer" in it, which essentially takes EVERYTHING from your computer; Chrome sign ins, opera sign ins, minecraft accounts, roblox accounts ect. So thats another reason to not download token generators
8:16 another way is to set a bot trap role where it tells people to not give themselves said role but since bots are dumb and give themselves everything they give themselves the trap role so you just kick everyone with the trap role
The comment section has raised some interesting ideas on what these bots are doing, as well as debunking the sniper idea. I'd love to see a future video on this once we narrow down what exactly the bots are doing.
how exactly has the sniper idea been debunked though? a lot of different types of bots exist, they aren't mutually exclusive.

you could make a role in the selecty thingy to get all roles say IF YOU CHOOSE THIS ROLE YOU WILL BE BANNED and have a bot ban anyone with that role

Luckily (and I know its evil) we have Mee6 and have a verification step before you can see, do or interact with the server

these are 100% nitro snipers but also they might be logging accounts to ready for a mass spam of a scam, most bots will just do it when they join as there are many people in it but they could just wait a while then do it get as much as they can. there is a chance they not even made those accounts as tokens sell for as little as 0.05 usd per account
