Thanks for the video! I wouldn't be able to tell apart the NT 4th gen and the signature series in a blind test, they are super close and both sound fantastic to me. The NT1A however, has somewhat overpowering high mids and highs, to the point where it gives me the subjective impression of its sound being a bit distorted even, I would describe it as "metallic" sounding. It also gets sibilant at times
Agree! The NT1A definitely sticks out much more. Between the 4th gen and 5th gen you have to listen for it and it's subtle. But the NT1A is definitely more easily seen as harsher.
I can hear the difference between the NT1-A and the NT1 Signature. The difference is slight, but the 5th gen has a slightly audible hiss, although it is also a bit louder than the 4th gen. Maybe it's just for me, idk, I'm not professional. I'd definitely choose the NT1 Signature after all
To me, NT1 4th gen sounds much different than the NT1 5th gen, and the 5th gen sounds a tiny bit different to the Signature Series, and the NT1-A (as the most bright/harsh) sounds closer to the 5th gen but the Signature Series in comparison has a tiny bit tamed highs. As I heard from one audio professional, he basically said that the NT1 4th gen was for audio pros of the past, and the NT1 5th gen+ is for audio amateurs of the present.
I agree. If I had to rank them the NT1 4th gen is better. But I'd say the NT1 Signature Edition at $159 is much better than paying $299 for an NT1A today. :D
So Rode says the 4th and the 5th are identical, audio nerds say it’s different and I can’t tell. Idk who to believe but I like the NT1 so who cares I guess.
Keep in mind that the 5th generation is yet a different NT1 not pictured in this video. It's an NT1 that has both XLR and USB outputs. The Signature Series is actually the 6th generation.
When Rode says it, that's marketing speech. When audio nerds says it, it's opinionated. Take your dose. Edit: The Signature Series according to rode (marketing speech) is that it is identical or basically the 5th gen, but stripped of usb-c and 32 bit float, so they should be identical everywhere else. However, they sound slightly different, just slightly, so either removing some components altered the sound signature in some way, or there's something else going on rode not telling.
@@Ryu_YinYes, the Signature series does sound different than the 5th gen USB-equipped microphone, and different from the 4th gen black one. Stripping the extra stuff out of the Signature series might change how the microphone body physically resonates a little, but I don't think it should be as big a change as what you hear when you listen to the different microphones together.
The frequency response charts are noticeably different. The 5th gen has a slightly bigger presence boost. Almost every reviewer who compares the 4th vs 5th gens says they prefer the old one.
@@Loe_Jistrode has changed the frequency response graph of the 4th gen one to be the same as the 5th gen, super strange. Also the video where Rode said they sound exactly the same was set to private a few days ago. Idk what the hell is going on
Great short form content, love it!
Thanks for the video!

EXTREMELY useful video, thank you! I heard differences between all of them.

Hi, I am disappointed to find out, that not a single Rode software supports the main selling point being the 32 bit float recording!
