- El fundador y director del Sistema Nacional de Orquestas y Coros Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela propuso que el Festival de Salzburgo promueva, en conjunto con la Unesco, un Modelo Mundial Pedagógico que asuma la educación artística como un gigante reto
Vivimos en carne propia sus palabras desde una de las comunas mas pobres del sur de Chile, Tirua. Y podemos afirmar la sabiduria y veracidad de ellas, un saludo eterno Maestro Antonio Abreu muchisimas gracias por su gran esfuerzo y trabajo en su vida para motivar y alivianar esta gran tarea que es educar a traves de la musica los niños de Tirua, Chile y el mundo entero le estaran por siempre agradecidos y por supuesto todos aquellos que hemos sido inspirados por tan noble y bella obra.

Pity there aren't any subtitles for the benefit of non Spanish speakers. Senor Abreu has done a wonderful job and should be given the Nobel Prize for his contribution to the young.

...This translation is a way to pay tribute to Antonio Abreu, who has just now died.
''In this solemn inauguration of the Festival of Salburgo I want to speak on behalf of all those distinguished artists and teachers of music who have worked devotedly with me for forty years to make a reality of this effort inspired in noble ideals about the fate of children and young people of Latin America. Today, more than ever, the mission of art in the new generation is beyond the aesthetical values and projects itself with growing intensity over the wide dominion that it embraces, from the humanistic formation of the personality until the child' s integration into a fertile and rising life. The new musical generation in Latin America shows a continent that finds a paradigm within the orchestras of children and youngers. In March 1995 a declaration of the OAS said that developement was not sustainable without the values related to the culture of times and the culture of communities. It also said that democracy had to be understood as a culture, that more than entertainment for a civiliation, is the lifeblood of its eternity. The artistic culture is crucial to forge the features of our people, to delve into the historic event of our identity and to see the future. Actually, the Caribbean culture of the Americas seems to be more coherent and meaningful than those of other regions. This is the great work done by our artists and creators: to go through our originality and to open pathways. The scholars and artists of the continent are aware of the crucial cultural aspect and work for integration showing the determination of our creators regarding the Latin American task. The eclosion of Latin America is related to the birth of new worlds. The creation of new worlds is a human condition coming from the most remote times. Our Prehispanic ancestors showed always the universe as a constant mutation, transformation and challenge. This is clear in the Maya past and also in modern writers such as Miguel Angel Asturias, Gabriel Garcia Marque, Jorge Luis Borges and Arturo Uslar Pietri, who see Latin America as an eternal transformation''.
