Trevino needs to be higher. Catcher is the only position in baseball where your defense matters more than your offense and he’s not that bad with the stick while being arguably the leagues best defensive C
I’d probably sneak Tom Murphy in somewhere down at the bottom of the list. He’s injury prone and not a great hitter but for a catcher he gets on base and is solid behind the plate
I’m an Astros fan and I understand for Maldonado, he one of those players who are better at defense than offense, that’s why he is called El Machete because he cuts down runners
Yeah I guess I agree with the rankings, Although I truly think Rutschmsn will make strides this season and will become the best Catcher in baseball very soon
Good rankings. Catcher is such a tough one to figure, there is an intangible element of, how does the pitching staff feel with them behind the dish as well. That is hard to capture just based on numbers.
It's crazy to think that Kirk is younger than Rutschman. He seems like he's an older guy but is still very young. It will be interesting to see how he progresses further into his career.

A guy who might end up top 5 as a rookie like rutchsman next year is gabriel moreno, he didn’t play much this year but when he did he hit for a lot of contact ( power could still need some help) he is like 10 ten in sprint speed in all of the mlb (i think) and he can play infield AND outfield. Well done & looking forward to the rest. Even as a big 'go White Sox' guy, I'd have to drop Grandal a few spaces.... somewhere in the 20-15 range. There has to be some amount of rebound this year (I pray), but there's no telling how much. I've lost a lot of belief in him.
Dumper underrated, you listed very similar offensive numbers for William. While he is slightly better than cal offensively, dumper makes up for it. Also look at Cal’s numbers from mid April on. Got sent down if the first month, came back up and mashed.
Love me some Big Willie Smith love! The Fresh Prine of LA is indeed one of the best in the League. And what's crazy is the Dodgers also have the #2 catching prospect in Cartaya just lurking in the background. Oh, we just drafted this guy Dalton Rushing out of Louisville that absolutely MASHES! Watch video of the guy, he destroys baseballs. Projects as "meh" defensively, but his bat certainly looks like it will make it not matter. Good video, I like how you used to put last years teams color for the previous ranking and the new team for new acquisitions. Maybe I’m just weird but I thought that was cool.
The disrespect to Jose Trevino! Puts up 3.7 fWAR in 115 games, the 8th most of all catchers. Is THE BEST defensive catcher in baseball. He should be borderline top 10.
I thought it was good except for Trevino. If you get into advanced stats, he is the best defensive catcher in baseball, by a lot too. His offense isn't bad either, and after making the All Star team this season, there is no excuse for him not to be top 5.

Trevino is a top 10 catcher because of defense alone. Idk if you've seen his framing data but its literally game changing having him as your backstop.

As a Rangers fan I can concur. Bobby Wilson is a top tier catching coach.

That's a fair spot for Raleigh, it's one spot lower than mine. Personally, I had Raleigh ahead of d'Arnaud but it's a lot closer than I realized, but the drastic difference in DRS outweighs the similar offense and similar framing imo.
Of note on Jonah Heim, was shifted on 75% of his ABs last year. Could take a big jump for his offense with the shift going away.
Biggest thing for him imo was workload fatigue due to Garver not being able to catch most of the year. That's why he slowed down in the second half
