My ancestors were from Dalwal. My father his brothers and sisters studied in Mission school Dalwal. My grand father's name was Hakim Raghunath Sahai Kakra. Who was in British Army at that time in Medical corps.
We are also from Dalwal my father Nand Lal Chawla was one one of the first student to join Mission High school and completed hisschooling from there. I was born in Peshawar and visited dalwal in 1942.My Grandfather was Bodhraj who had five sons and a daughter .My childhood was in peshawar but i remember going to lahore, rawalpindi,Nathiagali via abbottabad and Vaishnodevi in 1945.
My maternal grandfather Sh Mool Raj Mediratta was from Dalwal. My mother, uncles and cousins were born there. Mother was born in 1922. My father belonged to nearby village Khkharbala. I am from Chandiarh Punjab India. Felt very nice to see this video. Am sharing this with all my cousins and uncles/Mamas.Thank you Akhil Bakshi ji and "Masiji".
I should have seen this one much earlier. My father lived and grew up in a village (Sial Sharif) about 40 miles south-west of Dalwal. My Mom and father missed their days in the untruncated Punjab. Sometimes in the nineteen sixties, a friend of his in his lost village asked for a copy of the Gita. My father sent him a copy of the Urdu version. Venerable common factor in such family histories is what you have said: people to people relationship; that always shows up is a sort of common ancientness that sustains the civilization still. The village in your film is exactly how my parents too described theirs; or the one that I sometimes visit in the part of Punjab that they ascribed to my generation. Thanks for making this beautiful record.

Nice video Akhil. You are lucky to have visited your ancestral village. My folks from Karyala Chakwal. Hoping someday we too ger a chance to visit. Cheers
Praveen Bali we also visited Karyala, Praveen, and saw the derelict house of my great grandfather. The Sarpanch of the village was a Hindu and we called on his house and met his wife. He was away to Hyderabad (of Pakistan) to look for a match for his daughter. The people of the village told us that "not a leaf moves in the village without the permission of the Sarpanch".
akhil bakshi Thanks. I too have heard alot of stories of pre-partition days from grand parents, and all that I heard was, Life was good, people were great.
