      @Akin Khoo So ... you dont know the Westwood Historie then?
      Westwood began as "Westwood Associates" in 1985. They for example worked with EA on "Mars Saga". With EA as Publisher.
      In 1992 their Money Problems became problematic
      Sierra Entertainment (remember those? they made good games) tried to buy Westwood but the Owners denied that offer. Because Sierra demanded complete creative control.
      So they opted for Virgin Interactive (yep remember those?) that offered less but gave them the creative Freedom. Und Virgin ownership they made Dune II for example and Lands of Lore.
      Then came 1998. Due to some big Hits Virgin Itneractive took they had to sell theire American Operations. So EA bought Westwood up in an bundle with "Burst in Irvine" from Virgin Interactive.
      Burst in Irvine was put under Westwoods Control and renamed "Westwood Pacific".
      In the Bundle also uncluded was a 5 Year deal for Brett Sperry and Louis Castle. the founders of Westwood Associates back then.
      Thats why these 2 big Names were to be seen " so long" under EA.
      So Westwood didnt overextended itself. Virgin was in Financial Problems and sold wEstwood to Ea for an Deal that back then was regarded as "EA pays too much for it".

    • @kaitan4160
      @kaitan4160 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Akin Khoo Again from 85 to 92 they were independent.
      In 92 they got bought by Virgin.
      You know ... if i buy a hosue its mine. I dont "publish" that house.
      Yo uget that difference?
      And 98 Vrigin was broke and sold Westwood to EA. Because they owned it they could do that.
      And to make it easier for yo uto understand.
      You know Bayer? You know the Aspirin makers?
      Bayer has an CEO right? Werner Baumann.
      But Bayer belongs to the Company Lanxess. who also have an CEO. See how the CEO argument now falls apart?
      And to make it Worse. Bayer is a Company consisting of 420 other Companys all with an CEO ..........

And this game could easily be better, especially during this time with the movie coming out. It's a shame it came out way too early. I still have it and still play it. It's awesome! But, I have to give thumbs down to PH Moriarty (Gurney Halleck), Robert Russell (Dr. Yueh), they were bad, and two thumbs way down to the entire Harkonnen cast, they were HORRIBLE... And in as much as the visual effects, they were sub-par, almost offensive in their cheesiness...I know it was back in the early 90's, but shit... I can do those same effects and probably better, at home with my little Photoshop, Blender and Poser10 3D modeling/manipulation programs LMAO...

      It became a selling point of early CD Rom games - either throw in a full voice cast, or throw in Full Motion Videos cinematics. In practice it varied in efficiency, but the best of them were great, and even lesser ones sometimes featured a star actor or two.
      The last mainstream game I remember really going all in for the FMV experiment was Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. It seems like the genre died after that, as many games opted for cutscenes featuring the in-game engine or pre-rendered cutscenes instead.

      Gotta love how the Ordos figure out the most desperate of odds, from beginning: mission one: "There is a 44.2% chance you are a Harkonnen Terrorist, there is a 33% probability you are an Atreides Spy. We will accept these odds.....,,, Or to Mission 8's '...there is a 3.9 percent probability that you wíll survive... That is......... the mission".

    • @crukih7527
      @crukih7527 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Mr Cuddlesworth I genuinely think with another love and going through the books, the Dune series could make a sci-fi T.V series to rival game of thrones. They only problem is they have made games, films and T'V shows that have all flopped which has made the whole franchise and universe something people don't want to touch. They would need a Christopher Nolan esque reboot to bring Dune back into the limelight.

    • @mrgoob76
      @mrgoob76 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Crukih i agree, although alot of people hate the lynch version i don't, out of the one from 84 or the one from 2003, i would go 84 simply because it had WAY more atmosphere and just better looking in general, BUT in order to do it..they need a game of thrones sch team that is serious about rekindling it. And the only way to do it i think is TV on HBO.

    John-Rhys Davis should've been in the new Dune movies. He would've made a great Mentat.
    The Harkonen Mentat was wonderfully acted, but the character is too flamboyant/over-the-top for the new films.

    Too bad it was difficult to combine the codecs of lore scattered around. House Artradies was a Red Hawk, and House Harkenon was Blue Griffon. The Emperor was controlled by House Corino which could have been a 3rd faction it was a golden lion. I guess Ordos could be interesting giving the late Westwood creative liberties to show the bizarness of the feudalistic societies of the far future. Well maybe the IP is open and EA has forgotten about it so it could be picked up by someone else.
