I was 11 years old when I first played this game. I'm 31 now. This game was so ahead of it's time. The cutscenes. The gameplay. The sci-fi aspect. Look how great Age of Empires has become. And this game could easily be better, especially during this time with the movie coming out. It's a shame it came out way too early. I still have it and still play it. It's awesome! Westwood, nerf Devastator tanks. They're OP. 😅
Uh havent you played C&C? gameplay was not ahead of its time at this point. This game used the same engine as used in C&C and Red Alert in 1995 and 1996 just with a Dune tileset and concrete foundations. Its not bad but the least ambitious of Westwoods games. Emperor: Battle for Dune, thats when they made a true Dune game with a new engine and features.

Dune II got me into RTS resource management games, and this version, I really like Gimli's ehr Sallah's ehr John Rhys-Davies's performance in the cutscenes, too bad he wasn't in Emperor BFD
i remember downloading the wallpaper pack based off of this game directly from the westwood studios website back in the early 2000's, so sad that after my dad upgrading my computer from xp to 7, i lost the wallpaper pack, and also when the site down for awhile at this point

I wish they could reboot this game. Being realistic though, there is no market for a "Dune" game right now as there is no new (popular anyways) series, movie or book out to draw sponsors for it.

They only problem is they have made games, films and T'V shows that have all flopped which has made the whole franchise and universe something people don't want to touch. I like to think that Artero slid into a futuristic earth world and climbed the ranks of House Atreides. He never died of disease, he merely slid without a device.
Too bad it was difficult to combine the codecs of lore scattered around. House Artradies was a Red Hawk, and House Harkenon was Blue Griffon. The Emperor was controlled by House Corino which could have been a 3rd faction it was a golden lion. I guess Ordos could be interesting giving the late Westwood creative liberties to show the bizarness of the feudalistic societies of the far future. Well maybe the IP is open and EA has forgotten about it so it could be picked up by someone else.

i'm loving it in 2023 still.. Just downloaded and installed in last week... i've bashed through all 3 campaigns again already... Dont ask me why i still know évery single Campagnmap, or the composition of the enemy base, or how to set up my own perfect defenses, and mass-producing Base of Operations after all these years.... To me, Dune 2000 is one of thé best RTS games ever made!

Hey guess what... since ive got and played Dune 2000 PSone version on my 10th birthday on September 16th 2000, i was stuck on missions 5th Atredies + 8th Harkonen & 8th Ordos between back then all the way until just yesterday where ive grown old enough to play better... ive got the PC cd version in order to able to speed up the game in needed certain times and I've FINALLY finished all 3 houses on HARD difficulty!, And i have to say not only it was extremely hard, especialy the final Ordos mission where you are against the Atredies + Harkonen & Emperor together but I really enjoyed it!!! :-)
They wouldnt look like expensive pornstars ONLY if EA used Russian women for the soviet officers and some common foreigners for their respective faction...
@@TheTabascodragon i always found the atreides harder, Ordos can just autodestruct the Devastators and overwhelm the atreides with their speed. Harkonnen are just too cool and their tanks are much more stronger than the other houses they can win with them not even using the devastators
So should have the other two mentats, because each had his own personality. Instead, Emperor gave us not one, but two Thufir Hawat ripoffs, and replaced the creepy cyborg Ordos mentat with the least interesting mentat in the history of Dune.

Book Dune IV (God Emperor of Dune) had these characters: Hwi Noree, Ixan diplomat and lover/wife of Leto Atreides II. Moneo Atreides, far descendant of Ghanima Atreides.. and mentat ofGod Emperor Leto. So yeah :)

Partially agree. I found Sonic Tanks in Dune 2000 a bit of a liability as offensive weapons? They were slow, and damage évery unit in their firing path. That includes your own! Ok your Combat- Missile- and Siege Tanks were quicker to arrive on a location, though you're preferably want to amass your forces for an attack on an enemy base. Sonic Tanks were éxcellent defensive weapons though! Perhaps the developers did it on purpose to indicate that the Atreides werent 'the attacking type'? Not unless they absolutely hád to? But they would defend their bases like no other!

As far as I remember any houses in the game had some different special forces which other houses don't have like the Fremen troops which can be available only at Atreides.
@@riproaringanus oh you got it mixed up wrong. Sardaukar were untrainable by anyone. Atreides - Fremen yes. And Ornithopter air strike. Harkonnen got the Devastator tank + Death hand missile. Ordos had the Saboteur and Deviator missile tank. Only other dif were a slight change in stats for the combat tanks between the houses.

Too bad it was difficult to combine the codecs of lore scattered around. House Artradies was a Red Hawk, and House Harkenon was Blue Griffon. The Emperor was controlled by House Corino which could have been a 3rd faction it was a golden lion. I guess Ordos could be interesting giving the late Westwood creative liberties to show the bizarness of the feudalistic societies of the far future. Well maybe the IP is open and EA has forgotten about it so it could be picked up by someone else.
I want to see the harvesting space this is nothing but a modern-day version of the of the Colombian cartel with Carlo Escobar have the Duke of the known universe battling it out to see who get to be the top dog baby

i'm loving it in 2023 still.. Just downloaded and installed in last week... i've bashed through all 3 campaigns again already...
Dont ask me why i still know évery single Campagnmap, or the composition of the enemy base, or how to set up my own perfect defenses, and mass-producing Base of Operations after all these years....
To me, Dune 2000 is one of thé best RTS games ever made!
I wish they would put these games on Steam or Origin or GOG because i really want to play them!

Hey guess what... since ive got and played Dune 2000 PSone version on my 10th birthday on September 16th 2000, i was stuck on missions 5th Atredies + 8th Harkonen & 8th Ordos between back then all the way until just yesterday where ive grown old enough to play better... ive got the PC cd version in order to able to speed up the game in needed certain times and I've FINALLY finished all 3 houses on HARD difficulty!, And i have to say not only it was extremely hard, especialy the final Ordos mission where you are against the Atredies + Harkonen & Emperor together but I really enjoyed it!!! :-)

i've beaten atreides and ordos campaigns but i can never beat harkonen. those last couple harkonen missions are ridiculously hard.
@@TheTabascodragon i always found the atreides harder, Ordos can just autodestruct the Devastators and overwhelm the atreides with their speed. Harkonnen are just too cool and their tanks are much more stronger than the other houses they can win with them not even using the devastators

So should have the other two mentats, because each had his own personality. Instead, Emperor gave us not one, but two Thufir Hawat ripoffs, and replaced the creepy cyborg Ordos mentat with the least interesting mentat in the history of Dune.

In who's person, we discovered a rather delicate correspondance regarding a High-Tech Atreides factory, which produces... Carryals..... Ment, to Carry-All, the Emperor's Sardaukar, dówn to battle, fróm the Polar-region. Now..... If we destroy the Atreides-factory, we keep the Sardaukar, awáy from the battle!. We stríke the Atreides, while the Sarduakar are still on the march.......Now tháts why they call it..... Intelligence!")
I loved this game as a kid. To me this WAS Dune as I played this before I read the books or watched Lynch's movie.

Atreides in general were broken, lol. They had more "special" units than the other houses.
Partially agree. I found Sonic Tanks in Dune 2000 a bit of a liability as offensive weapons? They were slow, and damage évery unit in their firing path. That includes your own! Ok your Combat- Missile- and Siege Tanks were quicker to arrive on a location, though you're preferably want to amass your forces for an attack on an enemy base.
Sonic Tanks were éxcellent defensive weapons though! Perhaps the developers did it on purpose to indicate that the Atreides werent 'the attacking type'? Not unless they absolutely hád to? But they would defend their bases like no other!

As far as I remember any houses in the game had some different special forces which other houses don't have like the Fremen troops which can be available only at Atreides.
Harkonnen could get saurdukhar troops, atreides got fremen and the ordos has the devastator I think

Atreides - Fremen yes. And Ornithopter air strike.
Harkonnen got the Devastator tank + Death hand missile.
Ordos had the Saboteur and Deviator missile tank.
Only other dif were a slight change in stats for the combat tanks between the houses.
@@Erikcleric Only exception: if you take over the imperial palace in the last missions, you can train Sardaukar troops.
