I saw this live in the Am hour hear and let me say Saiki's message to the fans had my full attention . Her delivery was clearly heart felt and she conveyed her feelings beautifully .

As my learned Maidiac friends have said, "About Us" is a love letter to the Maidiacs & was intended to be played for fans at Budokan after the Covid lockdowns but the show was cancelled. You can hear Saiki's voice breaking with emotion with the heartfelt speech she gave prior to the song starting.🥲
Saiki had said that the Budokan was not the ultimate goal and that he would take them to a bigger place, and this became a reality at Mincho's dream, the Yokohama Arena. Wonderful!🎉
TinyHat-san has been retired...on his way to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. ...but, Akane still has her Asuka Langley Sohryu statuette (Evangelion) and Snoopy plushy with her at every performance, usually on the table next to her kit.
After a year of being cut off from friends and family, this song about missing everyone but having hope for the future, when we would all meet again, moved me deeply. I cried but felt a great relief afterwards and now, back in the world and seeing friends and family again, it will always be a special song for me.
"About Us", in the vein of other great mid-tempo Band-Maid songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Wonderland, Awkward, Start Over, Mirage, At the Drop of a Hat and Smile, is an amazing song and personal message to their fans - a direction I'm glad to see them add to their journey toward world domination. And we get to hear MISA play the vibe she so enjoys. Their beautiful DVD/BD/CD set with 100 page picture book of this incredible concert is unbelievable! As far as i know Mr B still hasn't shown "The Maidiac Returns" film poster yet. And even tho the writing is small i still gave you the best credit in the film imo :)
🐦 On Feb. 14th, 2020 concert *BAND-MAID* announced that they were going to play at *Budokan* on Feb 11th, 2021 playing at *Budokan* is like reaching the top of Mt. Everest but due to Covid the concert was canceled. In the live streaming concert *Saiki* address the fans and said how much *BAND-MAID* missed performing live to their *Masters and Princesses* and was followed up with this song that *BAND-MAID* has maid for their fans. 🐦
You seem to like Misa's bass, she usually does a lot of picking, but in this song she plays fingerpicking, which is not seen very often. She is also very good at fingerpicking.
Some of Misa's most beautiful work. And Kanami's subtle guitar lines acting as another backup harmony voice through most of the song. Akane & Miku both as brilliant as usual. Saiki really excells in this one. I always finding myself willing her to take a breath in some of those phrases. Such breath control. So good.
This was the very first Band-Maid song I heard and first video of them I watched. Instant Maidiac! I immediately watched all the mid-tempo songs that I think Tom Clark listed. I haven't stopped listening to them since that day--9 months now. Coming from being a fan of Synth Pop, it took me a few days to settle into the harder music but No God and Different definitely pointed me in that direction. No God is still my favorite double-pedal drum patterns of Akane-san and Different is my #1 favorite song of theirs--it's fast, "controlled" chaotic, and highly melodic underneath. Miku-chan and Saiki-san's harmonies are perfect.
Wow wonders never cease. From Synth-Pop to BAND-MAID, Thus proving that with an open mind people can appreciate all sorts of music....as long as it's not Bieber, i'm not having that.🤣

Akane the drummer wore the maid hat early on but she said because of her constantly moving her head she had to pin it tightly which was uncomfortable so eventually she got rid of it

MISA was originally the wearer and passed it on.The Hat is still talked about in shadow meetings held in secret by Hat Maidiac fans. Others have already explained what the song was about. Not sure there has ever been such a connection between fan and Band. Annoying song as every time I hear it I seem to catch a cold and sniff .......where are my tissues?
I understand it is too hard to read for some folks but why not come right out and say it? Miku counts for nothing. After all she writes the lyrics you say don't matter. She's not needed in the band, is she? Because that's exactly what you are saying. She put this band together single handedly and her contributions don't count. Right?

Akane got rid of "Tiny Hat" at the end of 2018. She aquired it in 2014 from Misa who had originally been wearing it from 2013.
