- Are you hearing a "clicking" sound from under the dash board?
Most likely its one of the blend door actuators.
Replacing the blend door actuator on my Ford F150 - Here are the locations of all FOUR blend door actuators on the 2014 Ford F150 (eco boost FX2). The top one isn't as hard to get to as people make it out to be. Just make sure you know which one is bad before you start removing stuff.
Don't make the same mistake I did...
Actuators Part# and purpose
Ford MOTORCRAFT YH1933 - Blend Door Actuator (Single climate control has 1x actuator)(Dual climate control has 2x actuators)
-Mixes cold and hot air to set temps. People have noted that it will click when changing temp drastically as its changing how much hot or cold air is flowing.
-Single climate control: Behind radio slightly on passenger side.
-Dual climate control passenger side issues: Behind radio slightly on passenger side, also same place as single climate control systems.
-Dual climate control drivers side issues: Behind and slightly below glove box.
***Ford MOTORCRAFT YH1881 - Mode Door Actuator (**One in the video**)
-Controls direction air is flowing (floor, dash vents, windshield). Will click when first getting in truck, as well as when the air direction is changed.
-Next to gas pedal on drivers side. Easiest to replace and easiest to test. For testing, just reach up and undo cable clipped to it. If clicking stops, you have the correct one. If its unplugged and still clicks its one of the other ones.
Ford MOTORCRAFT YH1770 - Air inlet Actuator
-Changes the vent to allow air in from the outside or circulate the air in the cabin.
-People have noted that when changing the air from inside to outside or outside to inside it clicks. This can be tested by only changing the one aspect of the hvac, AC must be off otherwise it will try and close the vent automatically to cycle cabin air. Otherwise, the other actuators may click as well giving you a false noise when you think you are testing this one. This is also the hardest to replace.
I had this all written down on a note, prior to seeing this video. Mine YH1881 started clicking like 3yrs ago, so I looked into for a while to get a better understanding of the entire system. I like to work on my own vehicles so notes like this help.
For dual climate control. Which actuator would cause truck to have no heat on drivers side of the truck, but heat on passenger side works.
Great information. Thanks for showing us what to do.
OMG the funniest line ever everybody that had that problem knows exactly the most annoying sound in the world lol you are so funny. Appreciate it.😂
thank you so much for this video. My C blend motor by gas pedal was my bad one. King Ranch has fancy pedal that you need a 13mm socket to get the 3 bolts loose and get it out of the way. My local auto parts had a Dorman part in stock, and all Ford parts will be too late and ship when I was out of town. Again, thanks!
Glad it was helpful.
The recirculation/outside air actuator actually does fail fairly regulary and is a major pain to fix. Fortunately there are videos on youtube. I started with the problem in this video a few months ago, and just the other day the recirc flapper broke. You will know this happens when all of a sudden your whole interior shakes and it sounds like a jet engine is spooling up inside your dash.
Love the opening. I burst out laughing
I also replaced the top one, Can you post a vid of how to do the one on the driver's side by the gas pedal? and the part number for that.
The one on the driver side by the pedal IS the one I replaced in the video. Very easy to get to. You don’t have to move anything out of the way. #8L84-19E616-CA
what about the big metal piece blocking you from unscrewing the last screw
Are you doing the one on the driver side, above the pedal? I was able to reach all of the screws. I’m pretty sure I used a 1/4 ratchet with an extension. (It’s been a while now though)
@@elchapojr5613 honestly, I managed to get a long thin hex wrench on it and got it off. I did not try to put it back on when installing the new part.
Much appreciated senior, I'm certain if I didn't watch this video, I would have done the same damn thing!
i have a 2014 with dual climate. i don't have any clicking noises at all but I don't have heat on the drivers side or in the rear vents. i only get heat out of the passenger side vents. so from what I understand I need to replace the actuator that is down by the gas pedal?
@@kurtbeeman3126 call the parts department at the dealership, they can tell you which one does what.
YO Nobody, that was super helpful. Thanks for all your trouble.
Thank you!! I was about ready to make the same F Up!
This intro is so appropriae LOL
I mean… it’s not like you drove around for months cursing your truck every time you started it and putting off the repair because it was a tough spot to get to 😂😂😂 After you get off that nutcracker I’ve got a nice warm pumpkin stout waiting for you. Extra lactose 🥛
Just curious, I have a 2013 F150 FX2 experiencing a blend door actuator issue. I have heat on the passenger side and cool on the driver's side. I've seen videos saying the cause of this was due to the one on the very bottom. What did the actuator you replaced on the driver's side control?
@@steveboles3958 I’m not 100% sure which part of the system it controls, but it was clicking so that was enough to make me replace it. If you call the parts dept at any Ford dealership, they can tell you exactly which one does what.
What exactly is the part number you replaced (the one right above the gas pedal)? The part in the bag is 19E616-C but you when you point to the diagram, you say 19E616-B is the one "you are replacing right now" and point to 19E616-C as the one you thought you had to replace. Just want to confirm before ordering. Thanks. By far best video I've found.
The one on the driver side by the pedal that I replaced is #8L84-19E616-CA
Thanks Buddy !appreciate it !
Just curious, how you determined which one was bad. Mine is a 2010 F150 fx4, and it blows heat on passenger zone an a/c on driverside with a/c on !
I literally stuck my head under the dash when I started the truck so I could hear which one was clicking. 🤪
Notes for next time amigo. The driver side, you have to align the door the actuator attaches to with a 1/4 inch socket to match the position of the new actuator. New actuator should come with the tool for the socket.
And when mine failed it was the teeth on the wheel under the circuit. Just got brittle and popped one off.
But great content for sure. I learned the same stuff. Came here looking for how to adjust that door. So thought I would share
Hmmmm…. Mine didn’t come with any tool… I actually didn’t have to align it either. It was a straight replacement. That annoying part took like 5 mins to swap.
@mrnobodysgarage dang lucky you! That was the most frustrating part for me. The gapped side just wouldn't line up with the door and you can't spin the actuator obviously.
But yeah mine came with a little tool for it. Otherwise I probably would have made it worse 🙃
@@twnable Yes you are right. The exposed gear on actuator has a keyway and must be aligned with blend door keyway. The Dorman comes with the alignment tool not the Motorcraft. I was able to cut down a plastic knife to align the parts.(fits inside the the blend door female gear to turn and align with new actuator. New actuator has a alignment arrow at keyway) I was laying face up and kind of difficult to get the prospective of what your seeing. If I was more flexible I would start face down and look up. LOL
We have replaced several of the blend doors , but now they have all quit working at the same time ,was told it might just need to be recalibrated ,well we did that checked the fuse ,and it still blows hot air , will be a great heater when winter gets here, nobody can tell us why they all go out at the same time
Thanks for the video man !
In my 2013 f150 lariat ecoboost my driver side works heat A'/C etc but the passenger side doesnt get hot air which acuator would that be the one on the top or the one the bottom i have the recirculator accuator behind the glvoe box to put in but i dont think reciruculator accuator controls the heat on passenger side. any help before i decide to tear into it.
@@benjaminhiggs4052 I believe it one of the two that are behind the infotainment screen. One is up high, the other down low. You can call the parts dept at a Ford dealer or do what I did and just listen/feel for the one that was clicking.
@@mrnobodysgarage thanks will try that let you know how it goes
So if you have heat on passenger side, but no heat on the driver side. Which Blend door actuator would cause that problem. AC works fine.
There are 4 actuators total. One on the drivers side above the pedal, two in the middle (one high and one low) and one on the passenger side.
Same issue I have
Have a 2011 f150 platinum, all of the blend doors quit working , calibrated twice ,checked fuse still done of them work,I the past 2 years 3 have been replaced, now they all blow hot air.nobody can tell us what is wrong with them
They are made to break. That's what is wrong with them.
They don't even break. The computer in the truck is programmed to stop recognizing certain components throughout the life of the truck, so you keep spending money on the truck long after you have paid the vehicle off.
How did you fit a socket to get the bottom one out? The gas pedal is blocking it.
@@joesmo15 it’s been a while but I’m pretty sure I used a 1/4” with an extension.
@mrnobodysgarage won't fit. Had to remove the gas pedal. The gas pedal is far too close to get to the tip 8mm bolt. You can get to the bottom with a ratchet wrench.
@@joesmo15 I may have used a box wrench, either way- I didn’t have to remove the pedal at all. It only took a few minutes to replace.
Great content!
