  • Part 2 of the 6 Legged Pattern Blinds teaches young dogs how to take angle back casts.
Designed to prepare your dog for cold blinds, the six legged pattern drill creates drive, desire, enthusiasm and builds confidence. When transitioning form yard to field, this pattern blind offers many opportunities to work on a variety of fundamentals. In Part 1 we taught the blinds and reinforced foundational commands, like sit, heel, back, and built drive. In Part 2 we expand to include whistle sits in the field and teach young dogs to take angle back casts with momentum.
Run over the course of several weeks, we're also building endurance all while having fun. This will be the highlight of your dogs day, and maybe yours too. Watch all of our videos at The Retriever Nation.

Excellent video... Nala is responding well to your direction... do you have an approximate ratio of "freebies" (carrying through on a line without changing direction) to angle back retrieves?

Great question Paul! During the angle back phase, I give them at least 2 freebies during the 6 blinds as I don't want them to anticipate always being stopped. This ensures "forward progress momentum" on the send as well. It is important to maintain trust and confidence in a young dogs progress.
