Wish I had 4K cause there where only about 176 of these made in 1961. I just stumbled upon one on Shopgoodwill and the latest bid is around 4K. I'd love to buy it for my son. Oh well...
I am convinced the Casino is the most underrated, versitile electric guitar ever made. I had one in my collection for a long time, never played it. Now in the last couple of years its my go to guitar for everything.
What you need is to find one of the 50th anniversary casinos from 2011. Royal tan was an option. Hard to find now, since they made 1961 total, and I think only about 550 in that color. You may already know that but if not, maybe a helpful tip.
Well said. Moreover, if someone discovers a song which I find great, and calls it awesome, then I will be pleased. I'm certainly not going to insult him, but be happy he shares my taste in music.
The lead guitarist in my first successful band had one but with a Bigsby and mini-humbuckers, same year. I had a 61 SG Les Paul jr. ( we could only afford second hand guitars in the early 70s ) but gee they sounded good and, I think led to our first successes. Sadly he passed and i totally lost my voice with bronchitis and never got it back. Epiphones were GREAT in those years. You do it justice Phil.
I have been playing and reading for decades and my bad....I had never heard of Phil. Then I saw one of your Feb 8, 2010 video of Phil with a 1969 red strat and about 1 min into it he is playing a riff that should e listed among the all time classics. All time. What a great player and ignorant me.
Hey Fretted Americana, I think we all miss the guitar room back at home, but the studio gives us an exponentially better representation of what the guitar actually sounds like. That in mind, keep doing the studio thing, it will grow on us. Love you guys!
Where are all these amazing Epiphones now??? Why are they gone?? They just killed one of the few best guitar brands!!! WHY??? I say this a lot but, BRING BACK THE GOOD OLD EPIPHONE!!!!!!!
Phil, as you probably know, tremolo and vibrato are modulation in volume and frequency, respectively. An easy way to tell the difference is that the volume doesn't change when you just have vibrato. I've got a vibrato/tremolo pedal, and that made me ask the same question. It's always fun to watch you play. Cheers.
It's hard for me to play on guitars that arent my own and im not used to. Very impressive that you always sound good without proper "warmup" on all the guitars! Phil and guitars have a special relationship ^^
It's gotten to the point where I just leave Phil X videos on even if I'm not watching them. Awesome awesome person. Awesome people that shoot and make the videos too. Too bad I can't buy those guitars...ever...haha
I saw John Fogerty last fall in Northern Canada. I bought VIP tickets and got to meet him at the pre party. I brought my Les Paul and asked him if he would sign it and he said yes. My guitar made to his dressing room but he changed his mind and did not sign it :-/ . He could have spit on it and it would have been better than nothing !!! I had front row center seats and it was a great show though !! :-D .. .. True story !!
Awesome video! Loved the dissonant lick, the Rush tunes, oh and especially Phil X's canadian pronunciations... oh and the guitar itself, haha. Rock on!
Phil sings (and talks a lot of the time) in head voice. An easy way to explain is like what you said; a strong falsetto. When he goes into the head voice register, it's less chest, more diaphragm and it flows more towards the top of the head!
For all Phil X's apparent ADHD traits, he must have some amazing focus to learn all the riffs he can play off the top of his head. Awesome amazing guitarist.
I've read more comments like that. I don't know what the guy did, I don't care and I'm not gonna look it up. It's his music what counts and I fucking love his music!
@Daniel Mastromatteo Man the guitar room made me wanna watch these vids in the first place after that it was Phil. That being said I liked the setup of the earlier vids.
One of my best mates in High School had a 61 Epiphone with Bigsby but someone had taken all the colour out ( like John Lennon). Though his had mini-humbuckers. Note the E on the pickguard is NOT embossed.
Oh for f sake people, with heavy, silly, "can you top this?" comments. Lighten up. I love you Phil X., for teaching us about guitars and music. I really like your vids.
someone explain.. when phil is doing helter skelter, when he gets to the high parts.. is that falsetto or is that something else? its like a really strong falsetto with grit to it.. some vocal expert please explain to me thank you :D
This lad could make a tennis racket sound good. Very good.
Tremolo is a shift in volume and vibrato is a shift in pitch. Just pointing that out almost 3 years later...
I knew that...
That guitar has some of the nicest clean tone I've ever heard!
guitar reviews from Phil are the best I've ever seen!!! Damn yeah!
This is probably my favourite episode of all!
I love the sound of old Epi's, they are just pure tone. Great job there Phil, enjoyed immensely.
my favorite frettedamericana videos in the atrium because theyre the only ones with a plexi style amp guaranteed

Whenever I don't feel like practicing my guitar skills I watch a frettedamericanna video. Gets me in the mood everytime
this guy is a great guitarist.
They should offer this color for the current ones.

I love waking up about to go to work, and seeing a new Phil X video. Friday's always have something good
I've had three of the 2011 50th anniversary reissues. Even the reissues are great. Epiphone did a great job. All American electronics, too.
Well said. Moreover, if someone discovers a song which I find great, and calls it awesome, then I will be pleased. I'm certainly not going to insult him, but be happy he shares my taste in music.
The attack the midrabge and bass response of this guitar is KILLER!!! Just amazing!

This particular guitar sounds quite outstanding to these ears, , , something about them P-90's back there in the good ol' 60's.
Favorite guitarist! One of the best vids yet Phil!

One of the Phil X/FrettedAmericana best video, if not THE best.
Every guitar demo should be like this.
Another great clip. Nice guitar and awesome playing as usual
At 7:30 he still plays rush. The song is called "In The Mood" and its from their first album.
MY FACE HAS BEEN MELTED! Thank you rock gods for phil x.....epiphone style!

I saw John Fogerty last fall in Northern Canada. I bought VIP tickets and got to meet him at the pre party. I brought my Les Paul and asked him if he would sign it and he said yes. Seriously delicious axe!
Awesome video! Loved the dissonant lick, the Rush tunes, oh and especially Phil X's canadian pronunciations... oh and the guitar itself, haha. Rock on!
I dreamed about this guitar last night
If i'm correct its the solo to 'i wish my beer was as cold as your heart' by Phil's band the Drills
CCR baby! Respect to you Phil X.
Pretty sure he knows every song literally ever to come into existence.
Phil sings (and talks a lot of the time) in head voice. An easy way to explain is like what you said; a strong falsetto. When he goes into the head voice register, it's less chest, more diaphragm and it flows more towards the top of the head!
It's CCR's 'Up around the bend' :) a rock classic :)
John Lennons favorite guitar was an Epiphone Casino
Nice early rush classics!
that guitar sounds godly!
Damn this vid really outweighs the previous couple of uploads. NIce playing X!
For all Phil X's apparent ADHD traits, he must have some amazing focus to learn all the riffs he can play off the top of his head. Awesome amazing guitarist.
holy shit, that guitar sounds amazing!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
very nice guitar tone
this is why I subscribed...keep it going bro..you are dangerous behind the wheel of a guitar!

Snow looks good in december ^^

lol So true, so true. Well, it is a very nice looking studio.
Oh for f sake people, with heavy, silly, "can you top this?" comments. Lighten up. I love you Phil X., for teaching us about guitars and music. I really like your vids.
I would take this over a Gibson 330 of similar vintage any day, beautiful guitar, Peace.
someone explain.. when phil is doing helter skelter, when he gets to the high parts.. is that falsetto or is that something else? its like a really strong falsetto with grit to it.. some vocal expert please explain to me thank you :D
