@@kylecook4206 for prestige maybe, but in terms of quality competition not so much. Plus that is the only final England has ever made. They have also two semifinals. England won the WC with questionable goal. Holland lost WC78 final but they should've been given a PK at 1-1. Small margin calls like that can make a big difference. Plus Holland gave the world Total Football - pretty much the blueprint for modern football. They have produced far better players than England over the years. Cruyff, Van Basten, Gullit and Bergkamp alone beat anything produced by England.

Netherlands has always produced World class players. I think 1998 and 2010 were the two best opportunities they had to win the WC. But downside to their tactical brilliance is little belief in team work. It was usually individual brilliance and total football and there has been documented evidence that there was tension between players all the time.

We didn't win cause we missed a bit of luck at the end. Also, in 92, 96, 98 and 2000 we went out on penalties in the Semi-Finals, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Semi-Finals. It became a national trauma. Also, that team in '98 I believe could have won it, but we played an amazing Brazil (which was one of the best matches I ever saw) and so it came to penalties. We just missed that bit of luck. I also read a story that the French organization made sure with the draw that France would not play Brazil until the finals. That is why we ended up playing them in the Semi-Finals. 2000 we had 2 penalties in the regular game against Italy (missed) and then lost on penalties. So that is basically what kept us from winning it. Just sheer unlucky in the end with the penalties.

The Netherlands never won anything because of luck and because they like beautiful football. If you want to win you sometimes have to be mean, look at Germany they often won with a side that was not as good as another side, but with some muscle and meanness they won. Sometimes you need to pull a shirt or kick someone. That is why Van Bommel and De Jong helped the Netherlands a lot, especially in 2010.

I agree there, but 98 I honestly believe we should have won that. And if not that one, then 2000. That squad had arguably the best defense, best midfield and best strikers in the world. In 2000 we had Kluivert, Bergkamp, Van Nistelrooi, Van Hooijdonk, Makaay, Hasselbaink. The topscorer of the Premier League did not make the team. So I really agree: those two tournaments were lucky for us, but the 98/2000 ones I really think we could have won if not for penalties

Why the Netherlands never won a cup?
    before 1974 Netherlands were insignificant
1974, unlucky and Germany was a quality squad and playing at home.
1978, unlucky and Argentina were playing at home.
1982, 1986 they were not good enough.
1990 they were fighting as they did not like the coach.
1994, Brazil was better and too much respect for Brazil.
1998, had a good chance, sucked in penalties against Brazil.
    2002 was not good enough
2006 was unlucky in a dirty match with Portugal.
2010 Spain was better but still unlucky as could have won. Dirty players, van Bommel and Nigel de Jong took away any joy from the match.
2014 Germany was better any way but sucked at penalties against Argentina.
    2018 Not good enough.
So in short, not always good enough, a bit unlucky, difficulty against home teams and a case of sucking in penalties sums up our WC history.

The problem with Holland is that the white players are super arrogant (sneijder, van persie, v der vaart, robben)) and 9/10 times are narcissists and want the limelight for themselves. Then comes, the dutch players with different a background have the same issue lol, especially in Kluiverts era. And while they can all be friends, on the pitch they want all the glory for themselves. Also, we havent had a decent defender since Jaap Stam. He was a true pro.VVD is good but he lacks football intelligence in my opinion, or intelligence at all. His interviews he comes across as pretty dumb, in my humble opinion.

Cups aren't meant to be necessarily won by the best team in terms of football skills and tactics. In a cup with KO stages, you can have the best individuals, the best tactics, but loose the whole competition if some event that's not based on skills or tactics: subjective or misinformed referee decision, injury, hit the woodwork more than once.
The cup format is entertaining but it's not fair. That's why it is full of surprises. Surprise meaning a team of not-so-great players, ends up reaching higher stages.

How the hell did he deserve more in '98? Ronaldo absolutely ripped them to shreds in a game that should have never went to pks. The Netherlands probably should have more than the one Euro they won, but they've shot themselves in the foot. If I remember correctly, Kluivert missed a regulation pk against Italy in 2000, which cost them a birth in the final. That's probably why he doesn't mention it.

Jesus Christ, your terminology on football actuslly offends me.
Listen son, if you're going to watch football, never refer to a penalty as a "PK" or use the term "regulation time"
Your comment is oozing with Americanisms.

Ronaldo was amazing, but we had the overall better team and the fact you are mentioning we 'shot ourselves in the foot' means that it was US who defeated US. It was an amazing all-round Dutch team, the best I ever saw. I believe it was the best in the tournament there, but off course I thought Brazil was amazing too

Ronaldo was good but Netherlands completely outplayed Brazil in that semi and were the better team. Extra time was all about only Netherlands as Brazil played for penalties
