  • Fujifilm X10 is 10 years old now. What are its strengths and weaknesses? Is Fujifilm X10 a good camera that I recommend? How good is it today, in 2021, 10 years after it was released. In this video I review Fujifilm X10 and talk about my user experience. I give my opinion and present an overview of its capabilities. You'll want to watch this video if you intend to buy a used Fujifilm X10. I conclude that Fujifilm X10 is a wonderful camera and a very special one. It's build quality is amazing and user experience is very special. It's different from all other cameras and it will make you fall in love with photography. Fujifilm X10 has its flaws but overall it happens to be my favorite camera. Click here to see my sample photos taken with Fujifilm X10: • Fujifilm X10 sample ph...

    Hi Tom ! I am french and travelled two years around the world on my bicycle with this jewel ! Fell in love at first sight. Knew I did the good choice. it's a part of me, a friend with who I shared everything I saw and felt. Everything you express in your video is what I feel since I am a very lucky owner of this Fuji. In fact, he owns me :) My adventure began in 2012 and nothing will make me sell it !

    This is my favorite camera I have owned. I have owned 10 cameras since my first digital Canon G1 which is my number 2. I wore this camera out. Including the sensor. I bought it for a big trip to Scotland in 2012. I have some 30x40 canvas still on my walls from this little camera. Kilchurn castle and the Quiraing to name a couple. I totally agree on the closeups. I never used the viewfinder unless in unbearable bright light. I only shoot jpeg and they are awesome.

    I've had an X10 since it was released. I still like to take it out for casual shooting and hiking. I intend to continue using it and recently bought some new batteries for it. I don't agree with your comments about the OVF, I like to use the LCD to confirm exposure and the OVF for final framing and shooting, while you have to remember that the OVF gives a slightly cropped view of the final image, what appears to be in the centre of the frame is in the centre of the frame and it's very useful on bright days when using an LCD is difficult.
    It's a shame Fuji didn't continue with the EXR concept, it's an early example of computational photography. I wonder what a modern X10 with a 1" sensor could do?

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve Forde. Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I actually agree with you that in several situations the OVF can be very useful; and bright sunny days is such an example, as you brought out. Additionally the OVF is a strong design element. I, too, would've liked to see what could've come out of the EXR developments. It certainly made Fujifilm stand out. I have 3 batteries for my X10 so that I don't run out of power when photographing - this is how much I like and use Fujifilm X10. Of all my cameras the X10 takes the smallest picture and probably most noisy one but I still like to use that camera a lot. For me there's something magical about it. The camera is incredibly practical. For certain situations this is the only one of my cameras that would survive.

    The early Fuji's like the X-M1 came with a CD that had raw conversion software. I just used it to make tiffs to open in Photoshop. It was a basic software that was not obvious in terms of making a tiff. I bought a Russian turret viewfinder for bright days, and it really works, and is crystal clear. Does this have a tilt screen? Probably not.

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! The Fujifilm X10 does not have a tilt screen, nor is it touch sensitive. It's pretty old school. However, I like it just the way it is. Regarding what you say converting raw into tiff and the continuing working on it using Photoshop, I do the same. Sometimes I also like to make a tiff and then work on it further. I use GIMP instead of Photoshop but this is only because I don't own Photoshop (and GIMP does pretty much the same thing).

      Hi Goggo Bus! Thank you for your kind response. If your image is too small you may have selected a small picture size from the picture size settings. Try changing the picture size to L (large). However, even a large (12 Mpix) image can be just 5 Mb if the image has low detail. For example a 12 Mpix picture of sky yields a smaller JPG size in (Mb) than a 12 Mpix picture of forest. This is how JPG compression algorithm works. I hope this helped.

    Sorry , to be picky, but the X10 has a conventional Bayer sensor. X-trans was introduced on the X20, along with other significant improvements like the advanced optical viewfinder that includes exposure info in the VF.

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Robert! Thank you for your response. Technically the sensor is an EXR CMOS. It's not really a true X-Trans yet but it's not a Bayer sensor either. It uses a different color pattern and it allows the alternate rows of photosites to be read separately. Best wishes!

Sluggish but cool would be my best description of this camera. Hey Tom, wouldn't it be cool if Fujifilm makes an X10 II! How worse x10 in image quality compared to x100 FinePix? Great video!

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for this question. I do not have firsthand experience with X100 but let's look at the sensor pixel area. This is over 5 times larger for X100 (30.5 um2). This is a significant difference and it should be clear which camera was used when you look at the image at the pixel level. However, sensor pixel area is not everything. When using a low ISO value the differences may not be very large. Also, for internet the differences may not matter at all. And if your goal is to make small prints (15 x 10 cm) it probably doesn't matter which camera you used. I like X10 for its character more than the image quality. I'm sure that the X100 has a character of its own; I just don't know about it.

    But why is there an optical rangefinder AT ALL?! :D

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew. It's there partly for legacy. However, it's also somewhat functional because it kind of works. It shows you most of the scene that's going to be captured but it's not showing 100% of it. So the viewfinder can be used to point the camera in the right direction and make sure you get the subject you want to photograph but it it's not a very good way to precisely compose the shot.

    • @ЭтоДрючинский
      @ЭтоДрючинский 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tom_photo yeah, it's approximateness always held me back from ragefinders.

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ЭтоДрючинский Indeed, if the viewfinder is also EVF then it's more accurate. The one on X10 is optical and rather simple. The SLR viewfinders are always most accurate. And the X100T is a wonderful camera!
