During this covid lockdown it was hard to bought a Breeder ,So i use plastic Pasta strainer, added a hook to hang it in Tank, worked as charm.

Thinking about modifying this to raise shrimplets - Moss in the bottom, smaller mesh etc. Best DIY design I've seen so far!

Good hospital for guppies
It's not bad like you think. For some females which is giving the first born or for Albino strains, you should use this method to keep the fries from being eaten. However, if you are try natural way, I will always support. I am a fan of natural way as well.

How wide should each hole be
The average size of a guppy fry is 1/4 inches or 5mm so the holes should be bigger than that. I would say 6mm.

Just watched the video. Nice idea, I have a pregnant guppy almost pregnant for 15 or something days and Google said that guppies are pregnant for on an average 20-21 days, I will try this, I have a larger pot instead of a tank, she would give birth any moment. Can you please tell an alternative for garlic bags?? Thank you
Thanks for commenting. I tested many alternatives and the garlic net seems the best one when it is pleasure to allow fries to escape. But of course, you can use any kind of net which has net eyes over the fries' size.

you need more room than that I'd put some java moss in a separate tank or bigger container & put the female in there.
Nice suggestion, my tank is not too big so that's why. I added also hornwort to the box and it always did all well.

Hello....is the plant is compulsory to keep above the breeding box of the mother guppy? Plz help me.(my aquarium is not planted)..
It's not requirement but recommend to keep the fish not be stressed.

You can separate them, raise them for 2 weeks before adding them to the tank with their parent or put them into a whole new tanks with males and females separated.
From the starting breeding stage if we can put the paire in this type of small box
That case is not apply for this box. You need a bigger box if you want to put both male and female for long breeding term.
This box is for already pregnant female which is nearly giving birth.

How long does the fish needs to stay in the breeding box? Or selfmade
I actually know exactly when a fish need to be moved to a breeding box, so they will live in that box only few hours before moving out. But with beginner, the duration may be longer, however, please don't leave it more than 2 days in the box.
If your prediction is wrong, just release the fish and let do separation at another time, don't abuse the fish or it may die. Thanks

If we put the fry and the male guppies same tank, they eat the fry or not???..
Only time I’ve seen that is if they haven’t been fed frequently
If you have enough plants and you feed the fish regularly so it's all OK. However, I not recommend that if you are breeding an albino strain.
yes they eat there fry, separate them if u can, to avoid eating fry...
how will the mother guppy will survive in fact no hole is there in the breeder box for oxygen
I suppose to keep her only few hours not days long due to my experience about breeding guppy, so she can stand well with this setup. Thanks

Will the fish be affected if we put it in plastic container like this?
It will but with just a short term so the effect won't be serious. I use this method only when I have expensive fish which usually eat her fries immediately after giving birth. So with this, I can get 70 - 80 fries at a time.

Depending how many fishes do you have in the tank. If it's too crowded, just add pump to the tank.
This wont work if they are giving birth NOW. I needed something quick and by the time I was done her babies were already out XD good job midnoght you raised a fine set of fishied

you should prepare for your female before they giving birth. If your case is emergency, you should stay at your tank and use your net to separate babies out of the tank.
@@LuckAqua we doing it now, another fishy is pregnant but we have a frog and it always gets sucked in the filter so we always have to get him out. How do we prevent it???

Hi. I got it from a local grocery store. People here usually use it to keep their garlics and some use it to cover their sink's drain.

The net is used for covering sink drain. You can use any kind of net but make sure the net eyes are bigger than the size of guppy fries.

They use their gills like their mother
No like their isnt enough holes for more oxygen to go in the breeder box so maybe add holes?
@@davidvelasquez6902 The oxygen demand of fries is very low, they can live in that box for weeks without need any air stone, I tested and everything gone well.

You can use any kind of net but make sure the net eyes are bigger than the size of guppy fries.
When should a guppy be separated for its delivery
If its bell is big, anus is black and the fish is staying away from others then it's the time for the separation.

Guys, do not put pregnant female guppies in this, it can stress the out and cause them to drop fry prematurely ot not at all. JUst remove the fry once born
When you have enough experience, you will know exactly the day they will give births. For Albino (AB) strains, this is required due to very high rate of fry eating (AB fries have problem with eyesight). AB female can give 70 fries with this instead of 20-30.
Just put floating plant over the surface and it won't get stress.
It would be good to drill very small holes in the very bottom so that water from the tank can still circulate in the breeder box. Very small holes so that fry do NOT swim out from the bottom.
Thanks for the idea. I usually use a fine net at the bottom but in this case, I only want to cache the fry and move to a nursery tank so I did not add that.
Are u sure that all (most) of the frys will go down??
I tested and all went down properly. Just make sure you cute the net eyes bigger than the fries's size so they will go smoothly.

@@al-z8870 If the shop said that the net is fit for the fries so may be it's OK but because I did not see that net so I can't confirm.
The problem of breeding net from fish stores is that those net has ROUND net eyes which may be not fit with some fries, when mine are all long and in rectangle shape (around 3mm*6mm) so my net will suitable for 100% of any kind of Guppy fries.
Even sword tails or molly also work with my net, that's the advantage of DIY.

Oxygen pump needed ?
If you need to pump oxygen, put the box into a tank that has a pump already.

I usually know exactly the day they would give birth by the following signs:
1. They stay in the corners of the tank. They seem stressed and stop swimming or eating that day.
2. Their anal turns red and are usually bitten by the males
That is the time for me to move them to the breeding box. And I will keep them alone in there without males.
After seeing the first fries, I will remove them from the box in the next 24h.
But why is the net needed
To keep the fries safe from their mother.
Guppies outside the tank will eat the kids right
The kids will drop into the second layer of the box and they will be trapped in that and waiting for you to pick them up. Because the second layer of the box has no hole so the kids will be total safe.

You will need bigger net eyes, but due to Molly fishes will not usually eat their fries so Breeding box is not really need for them.
