    James Marsters is just such a nice guy. There is probably a huge line and he didn’t rush Mickey and laughed (in more of a touched way) at the skit. It warms my heart that even after years of going to these conventions that he tries to make a memorable moment for whoever took the time to wait in a long line to meet him. Love how he did a shout out for other characters and the writers on the show especially when everyone gushes over how great Spike is. I have watched a lot of interviews and he always contributes the success of the show to everyone working on that show.

      The only reason he changed and showed more sympathy could be the side effects of the initiatives chip. Remember that vampires are demons without souls so all affection they show is twisted and never true but somehow Spike without a soul managed to somehow get some humanity back so I think not killing so many humans due to the chip somehow triggered something which never happened to any normal vampire without a soul...

  • @lgbtorion
    @lgbtorion 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +79

    angel’s curse and spike’s chip are not really comparable.
    angel was forced to have a soul which gave him the ability to feel empathy and connect to people in a human way which is why he does good and is completely different from the soulless demon we know as angelus.
    spike was given a chip which keeps him from physically harming humans but he is still a demon without a soul so when he chooses to do good or shows that he’s capable of empathy (like him comforting buffy in a moment of sadness) it’s a much bigger deal.

    Spike is so not an incel. All of his vampire afterlife up until post season 2 he has done nothing but love and care for Dru. I don't feel like that's incel energy. But he does have "little angry boy" rage. It's just not incel like (in my opinion) 😂

    • @gungho1284
      @gungho1284 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And he gets cucked big time by Drusilla . He was an incel when he was turned and rejection is what he carries with him as a vampire. He knows Buffy will reject him.

    • @DrawingPicture
      @DrawingPicture 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

      @@gungho1284 just being rejected by one or two women just doesn't make you an incel. That would make every single, hetero dude an incel, and that's really not how that word is supposed to be used.
      Spike had a lover for over a century and literally has a side chick (Harmony) while pining after Buffy.

    • @phueal
      @phueal 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Cardboardbocs “incel” is more than it’s literal definition, it’s about your attitude to women. Whether you see them as people in their own right or you see them as sexual objects who exist only for your gratification. An “incel” rages against women because he believes that he’s entitled to love from them because, after all, they exist for his sexual gratification and they’re failing at that duty. Andrew Tate was an “incel” in common usage even though by all accounts he was extremely sexually active, because he wasn’t actually connecting with any of the women he was abusing, he just had a lot of human fleshlights on hand. A man who is not an “incel” recognises that every woman can make decisions about who she forms relationships with, that it’s perfectly possible that no woman would ever fall in love with them, and that if that’s happening it’s because that man has not worked on himself and made himself an appealing person to spend time with.
      They are accusing Spike of being an incel because of the way he reacted to Buffy’s rejection (and to Dru’s in Lovers Walk): by blaming them, not himself, and by reacting to it with angry vengeance instead of self-reflection. It’s not their duty to please him, they’re free to choose not to be in a relationship with him, but he’s not accepting that and instead considers it their fault somehow.

    This is such a great episode, really unpacks what makes Spike the character he is, and shows the journey he's going on.
    I will say that I don't think he is really all that much of an incel. As mentioned, his response to Cecily ridiculing him is to hate himself more than her/women, and once Drusilla comes along he immediately transfers his romantic attention to her and becomes wholly invested in her. None of that really says incel to me. Spike isn't especially entitled, he just has basically zero impulse control. But beneath his violent impulses are a consistent desire for love, not for control.

    • @ameliacraiig4193
      @ameliacraiig4193 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Perfectly said. I'm sure an incel would've revelled in the woman's misery, then taken advantage of her vulnerability. Spike's impulse when seeing Buffy upset, was to ask what's wrong, then provide comfort.

So, I liked rooting for his redemption arc and ending up with Buffy. I don't think Marketa will change her opinion of him and I understand since his actions aren't easy to forgive. And some of the choices the writers make on his character don't do him a lot of favors. But still very curious to see you guys go on this rollercoaster of a journey, nonetheless. So, we'll see. "Fool for Love" is a fantastic episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's a great example of the show's ability to balance humor, action, and character development. The episode begins with Buffy being defeated by an ordinary vampire. This is a huge blow to her confidence, and she's left wondering how she could have lost. She turns to Spike for help, and he tells her the story of how he killed two Slayers many years ago."Fool for Love" is a great episode because it explores some complex themes in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. It's also a great showcase for the cast, particularly Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz.

The shopkeeper was surprised Miss Calendar actually knew what it was used for (Spirit Vault of the Undead), since "all these New Age magic users use them as paperweights." Fast forward to the first part of that season's finale - Becoming Part 1 - and Willow telling the group that, according to what Miss Calendar left behind, they needed something called an Orb of Thessala to do the curse. Interestingly, it seems Dru, who can see things, that Spike was already in love with Buffy in season 2.

    Giles explained in the series premiere (1.02 Welcome to the Hellmouth) that this did not start out as a paradise. First there were demons, they moved to the demon dimensions, then there were humans. The "last" demon fed on the blood of a human, and he another, and another. Thus vampires.
    End of season 3 Anya said all the demons who walk the Earth are "tainted with human blood". (I guess she didn't know about The Scourge, the football head demons that killed Doyle).

      @rfresa 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Probably even they are tainted. It's like the Pureblood thing in Harry Potter. If you go back far enough, they all have muggle ancestors, they're all just quibbling on who goes back the furthest.

    Spike has no "incel energy" at all, he doesn't hate women, he's a soulless demon and a predator as all vampires are. Vampires tend to have an obsession with killing the slayer but Spike is fixated with her in particular now and of course he had already killed two of them. The chip subdued him a little but he's still soulless.
    That doesn't mean he's an "incel", though, which the ending scene further proves. Because of all the things done to him(he didn't actually choose to lose his soul and then recently the chip) he's like a tornado of emotions and thoughts right now. And some of his original personality of course still carried over to his vampire self as we've seen in this episode, so he's also an hopeless romantic. At the same time he can't kill anyone(for a vampire killing is natural, just like a predator in the wild) but he also can't actually love anyone as he's soulless.

    I don't think Spike quite counts as an "incel" because it's less about him not being able to get with ANY women, and more about the fact that he keeps specifically falling in love with women who demean and hurt him - which only makes him want them more. Spike could go out and hook up with half the women in Sunnydale if he really wanted to, but he's cursed with being a romantic at heart, and so he only wants a serious monogamous relationship (preferably with an emotional component, given how disastrous his casual fling with Harmony was).

    I think something very important needs to be pointed out just so that there isn't confusion: having a chip is NOT, IN ANY WAY, the same as having a soul. Yes, Spike is unable to physically hurt humans anymore, but that does not take away his WANT to hurt humans. His actions and decisions are still very much made by a soulless demon and he does not operate with the same moral compass that the Scooby gang does. Equating souled Angel with chipped Spike is not a good idea!!! Please keep this in mind going forward.

    Riley taking the slaying that seriously where as the Scoobies handling it the way they usially do, shows another struggle Riley has with The Initiative no longer being around.
    Spike, as a human (William) liked the 1800's version of Cordelia (Cecily).
    Love that they recognized Angelus when Spike bumped into him. It's rare for people to do so.
    Buffy had an orgasm when Angel bit her and William had one when Drusilla bit him. Buffy got off on it with Riley after taking down the polgera and Spike got off on it with Drusilla after killing his first slayer.
    Spike to Joyce Summers in _Lovers Walk:_ "Have you *ever* seen a Chaos Demon? They're all slime and antlers. They're disgusting." The flashback to South America uses what was just a throwawy joke, and turns it into a world-building moment in this episode. That's what's great about this show compared to most others.
    I don't think it's a spoiler to say (and Suraj asked) that neither Angelus nor Darla has a confirmed slayer kill. Only Drusilla when she killed Kendra and Spike with the slayers shown in this episode's flashbacks.

    Spike is my fav. He's incredibly loyal, he was with drusilla over a hundred years. Spike is full of love, but i think when he became a demon it got twisted. He's subdued but unlike angel he doesn't have a soul so he only can feel things from a demon's perspective. It still makes him interesting to watch because as a demon he shouldn't care about things but he does. The tiniest bit of humanity seems to sneak in perfect example at the end of this ep, Demon says kill her she's vulnerable but the man in him sees her crying and in pain and wants to help. Even the judge back in season 2 said that Drusilla and Spike stunk of humanity because they shared genuine affection for each other.
