This is probably the only adaptation of Pride and Prejudice when the Bennet Parent's marriage is presented in a light, pleasant and loving way, like Mr Bennet in truth loves his wife. I like it. It makes all the difference

The cinematography of this movie is otherworldly, altogether. It is as if all the great art at Louvre came back to motion to entice us. Beautiful, soothing color palette. Terrific composition and lighting. A very good film too. I enjoyed it immensely while watching it at the theater all those years back. Still as fresh as ever.
Did anyone notice how Mrs. Bennet saw her daughters looking through the door at 0:41. I don’t know why but I laugh every time I see her expression. I love this movie.
I find him a rather ignorant parent. He only truly shows affection to Elizabeth, because she's his favorite and keeps mocking his wife and young daughters for being 'silly'. He even encourages lizzie to do so too
It always made me wish I had more sisters. I only have the one LOL Or at least, I wish I was that close with my friends! It's no wonder they're all pleased and self-assured (well, besides Mary maybe) when they've always had each others company and freedom in their home

The British actress who plays Jane (Rosamund Pike) was unknown to me (an American, and not much of a film addict)... BUT she is sooo good at being Jane, and so Janeishly beautiful, kind, considerate, etc., etc. etc. that I had to look her up on You Tube. Endless interviews and whatnot. It seems that she is famous over there and has played, often major roles, in loads of films. If you don't know who she is just, on you tube, write in "Rosamund Pike" and you will soon see how big a deal she is in Britain and why she is such a perfect Jane in this movie. It's eerie.
Agree she could not have been more perfect as Jane... Rosamund is one of my favorite actresses and amazingly versatile, still think she deserved the Oscar for Gone Girl (about as far away from Jane as you could get!!)
I just love the script in this. You understand the dynamic of the family in just a few minutes: Mr. Bennet teases Mrs. Bennet, Kitty and Lydia are young, giggly girls and cohorts that Elizabeth and Jane has to rein in sometimes, and poor Mary is always left out of the loop! At least Lizzy grabs her hand and pulls her along for the ride around 0:56.
I do as well. It's wonderful. I don't feel like one version has to be chosen over the other. This movie is a feature film. The other one is a mini-series with more time to produce the work. I love the way this version is put together, the music and the actors.

I came here after seeing the movie on Oxygen channel, which caught my attention because my daughter is reading the book in English class. She seems bored with it, but I thought I'd watch just to see what all the fuss is about. I am stunned at the quality of this film. Acting, cinematography, music , casting. Wonderful. I will watch it again and again. And will surely read the book now.

Damn when I watched the movie as a kid, I didn't realise it had so many iconic actors in it - Johanna Mason (Jena Mallone) from Hunger Games, Rosamunde Pike from Gone Girl, Carey Mulligan from Promising Young Woman, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) also from the Hunger Games, and Tom Hollander from Pirates and the Carribean - and I didn't even mention the legends Keira Knightley and Judi Dench yet.
As well as the nerves comment from Mr. Bennet can we also look at the genius of his, "Good heavens...people!" line. That's always been one of my favorites
It's quite a weird premise of a novel, isn't it? "A rich bachelor has moved onto the neighbouring estate. I shall write him and inform him he can marry one of my daughters!"
It's very interesting how at 1:09 the placement of the girls is very deliberate, seemingly in order of curiosity. What's curious is how Lizzy is at the front, as though she's the most interested in hearing about Mr. Bingley, something she doesn't let on herself.
I love Mrs Bennett. Her wit and humor eish she was soooo on point. Like that scene when she was complaining about her nerves in bed, then she hears Lydia I getting married, then suddenly she feels fine, and feels the need to tell neighbors lol
I can't believe that is Carey Mulligan. I barely noticed her when this first came out. Now she is a brilliant leading lady in Far From the Madding Crowd and Suffragette.
The next time Jena Malone and Donald Sutherland were in a film together it was a much angrier relationship...perhaps he should've hooked her up with Mr.Bingley after all.
Pretty lovely sister moments where as they heading the drawing room: Jane is pulling on Elizabeth's hand, then Elizabeth is pulling on Mary's hand as she was playing the piano, and then Lydia and Katherine are asking stuff from Jane.
And Kitty, the younger sister right in front of the door when the parents are secretly talking in the room is Carey Mulligan (aka Daisy from The Great Gatsby 2013)
MacFadyen is a worthy Darcy and a darned good actor to boot! The scenery, backgrounds, and country folk were much more realistic than previous versions. The costumes and hairdos also seemed in keeping with the times. Another great addition is the priceless Donald Sutherland who, in a perfect world, would have had more scenes with Judy Densch. If those two can't chew up the scenery, nobody can. And, finally, Keira Knightly is a jewel. Her beauty is so apparent that it almost detracts from the fact that this is a very good actress who can hold her own in any room. This was a delight and I only wish that it could have been 6 hours long.

Even tho this movie has some scenes different from the book ( I didnt mind that since various adaptations of a book does have some changes ), the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, the characters aren't just caricatures ( like Mr and Mrs Bennet ), and the costumes are actually quite historically accurate and befitting the characters! Actually I love both the 1995 and 2005 versions of PnP and I think both are brilliant adaptations of this Austen classic! 🤩🤩🤩😊😊😊😊😊
