Sonic:I hate the soap shoes Mario:SOS Prototype Sonic:time to show you who I REALLY am Shadow:who are you Prototype Sonic:I AM SILVER THE HEDGEHOG Shadow:WOW
I have such strong memories of these figures. My best friend and I wanted the Shadow figure so badly as kids in 5th grade that we actually stopped using our lunch money to save up for it, then pooled our money to buy it online. Luckily I was the one who got to keep Shadow! I got the Sonic, Mario, and Luigi Joyride figures later that Christmas. I still have all of the figures to this day, but Shadow will always remain my favorite. Even though I took them all out of the box, for years I kept the empty boxes just because I liked the pro tips, artwork, and reviews! Thank you for making this video about my favorite line of video game toys.
3:59 oh hey that's my picture, you'll see that I have never opened Shadow where as the Sonic one you can see its been opened, I have kept its box but put him back in for that photo, kinda wished I'd never opened him too seeing as the rarity of them now but then saying that its a great figure to look at closer in detail and have on display, I love how the spikes are done on him and just how weighty they are as figures, feels high quality, still need to find the prototype one day. Great highly informative video, enjoyed watching.
Story time: There's a toy store near where I live that holds alot of clearly old toys, most of them unopened. There were these Super Monkey Ball toys, and the back of the box advertised these bendy figures. I asked the cashier if they had the Sonic figures. He said that they did at some point but they were already bought. There were unopened figures just sitting there on a store shelf probably going for like 20 bucks. I wish I had seen them earlier, I probably would've bought them up in a heart beat
I can see why they're the MOST desired figures to date and I can't blame them. A shame they didn't go beyond Sonic and Shadow, would love to see Tails, Knuckles, Eggman and Rouge, but I'm grateful they gave other SEGA games some love in figure form such as Jet Set Radio and even Crazy Taxi.
I think that Rouge was made in the Sonic X series of figurines, but it's practically impossible to buy her anywhere. I searched on Google and nothing comes up. Nuts...
I kinda wish modern sonic would wear soap shoes again, I like the design of them on sonic Edit: to all the people who have replied. Thank you for telling me that my wish came true. I am now a proud owner of an official Soap Shoes Sonic Figure thanks to the new Jaks Pacific figures
This turned out to be an unexpected trip down memory lane! I recall seeing these on store shelves long ago. All the ones I REALLY wanted were out of my price range, but I eventually convinced my mom to buy me Ai-Ai and Gongon when they went on clearance at Walmart. I still have them, in the original box, to this day! They have a place of honor in my gaming setup.
Master Sashimi i saw the sonic one on Amazon for 149.99 dollars with the box he was the only one i can find and he was in stock but i dont know the email and the zipcode only my mom knows what it is so i may have luck to get him yet i wanna know why ur mom said to put sonic back? How much did he cost? Becoz back then he wouldn't cost hundreds of dollars
I still have these. I remember being so excited for them, seeing the commercial maybe twice ever, and opening them for my birthday. Sure wish I'd kept the packaging.
Here we are in 2025, (23 years after this figure came out) with not only a Soap Shoes Sonic Funko, but a 4 inch articulated Somic figure with soap shoes! And they’re officially called grind shoes now! I won’t be surprised if we get a new plush with them now! Maybe from GE?
Probably lets hope so or some new other soap stuff the companies are finally hearing our prairs they finally took notes and are gonna make some more lets go
Wow! I still own the Sonic one, used to play with him all the time when I was little, so much so that his nose popped out! Neat to see a review of this figure!
Last Sonic toy I remember having was a 4 inch Shadow figure back in '05. The ones with accessories that were usually two Chaos Emeralds but varied between waves.
See stuff like this makes me very happy as I grew up with the adventure games, I’m not sure if I’ll ever get these or get new versions of the adventure dx plush I had as a kid. I’m so glad you make these videos because this really helps me learn about the franchise
I wanted this Sonic so much back in the day. I knew he wasn't sold in my country and I could never have it but everything about it looked so awesome, I could tell this figure was way ahead of its time.
Holy shit I remember this toy line of figures as a kid! Specifically the Samus one, that's shown at 6:28. Feels like a damn lifetime since I seen that figure.
Ever since i saw these figures on the internet at around 2004 i was so hooked to them like crazy ! I remember waiting full 5 years until i finally received them for christmas in 2009. Sadly i was 14 years old around that time and slowly stopped playing with toys in general. And i really don't know what got to me but i gave them away to a young kid who was in love with sonic also. Considering how rare they are nowadays it was a decision i regret a little but that's life i guess.. Loved the Review !
I had the sonic figure when I was little and I remember it starting to smell weird overtime. Probably had to do with the flexible plastic it was made of.
Thank you! I'd love to be able to make videos more often, but I just don't have the time right now. I have a few shorter videos in the works at the moment though so those hopefully shouldn't take too long to come out.
i still have a shadow one,my uncle (who is a collector) gave it to me some months ago,i just watched this video and i realized i have a piece of gold in my hands!!!
PATMAC u are my favorite TH-camr ever sene u replyed to me in ur 25th anniversary plush review I like all your vids even if your video is a Kirby video which is a game I haven't played I clicked on it immediately I found your channel when u uploaded sonic adventure 2 plushies u are the best TH-camr
does anyone remember that stop motion serious that had these figures and Mario ones? The plot had to do with Wario turning into a dinosaur, I need the nostalgia trip! (edit: its called "mario and sonic part 1")
I know plushes aren't relevant to this video, I just wanted to comment on the most recent one. I find this channel really interesting, despite not owning a single plush. Thanks to this channel, I've grown a stronger appreciation for plushes, so much so that I wanted to fix the whole not owning a plush thing. I just bought a damaged but fixable Kellytoy (I think, the tag was cut off) Spyro plush for $16 off eBay and a Senei "Super Mario" Mario plush for $10, don't worry, it's official. I bought it straight from Amazon and I have Prime. I don't plan on having a big collection or even having more than one plush of the same character, but I do plan on getting a few more.
Oh my god, I had both off these. I actually ripped off Sonic's arms BECAUSE the wires were worn out The Shadow one was much more sturdy and well made Shadows shoes were my favorite detail I would pop off their heads and switch them Fun Fact: Shadow's neck plug is bigger than Sonic's. Use that information as you please.
Are there any known differences on the bagged sonic? I found an opened one of the sonics in nearly perfect condition at the chicago toy show last year, and I noticed it seemed glossier than the ones I owned, and the blue seemed darker. The owner made the claim that it was meant for display or something. He was offering $15 and I passed for some dumb reason, though I already own several ones with broken wire. Also, shadow always bent better than sonic, even when first released. I believe its the resistance of the rubber rather than the strength of the wire, as the sonic uses a the natural white with paint on it, while shadow is dyed black, and black dyes tend to thin pvcs, making them easier to bend, so I wouldn't doubt it's the same for whatever rubber they used. That or the rubber was just different, but either way, shadow was always easier to pose. Thanks for finding the jointed photos by the way, I saw some when I was young and haven't seem them until now, but it was a different sonic. Also, almost all earlier prototypes on display are resin, before they have the figure fully tooled they make several resin samples for displays at cons and stuff. Great video!
You should do a look back on the Sonic and Knuckles figures from Tomy(I'm talking about the figures that Tomy made to promote Sonic and Knuckles on the Mega drive/Genesis).
24:56 Actually you used another image of the prototypes in your other video looking at Sonic bendy figures. It shows mostly Sonic with a little bit of Shadow present on the left of the screen. But more importantly, the other image shows a different background... hmm...
Dude, this video was INCREDIBLE! Great Work! You just provided me with a whole lotta history and info on what are probably some of the best pieces of Sonic the Hedgehog merchandise to ever exist. I actually own the JoyRide Sonic and Shadow figures myself. I bought both of them brand new back in 2015 on EBay. I got EXTREMELY lucky with Shadow. Not only was he still mint in his box, but the seller only asked for a little over $200. In my opinion that wasn't too much considering the figure was in fact in mint condition. Sonic was also mint condition but thankfully I only payed about $120 for him. As much as I wanted to keep them in their boxes, I simply couldn't. These figures were just to incredible to not have them displayed on there bases. I still have the boxes and all other accessories however, they're just put away. I want to keep these figures for as long as I possibly can, which is why I don't care for the amount of money I could sell them for. However for the sake of rarity on the "prototype" Sonic, I'll be keeping him in his box if I ever get lucky enough to find him. And as for those prototype resin SA2 figures of Sonic and Shadow, WHAT??!! I had no idea those were a thing! I would pay an OUTRAGEOUS amount of money for those! Can't believe they never saw the light of day. It is what it is though. Once again, great video dude! 👍
Thank you so much! That's awesome that you were able to get them for such good prices, even though I would have kept them in the box haha. Still though, great stuff! Glad you enjoyed the video, and that you were able to learn something new from it! Thank you!
Hey patmac. I just went to toys r us earlier tonight and i got the modern sonic comic pack. Also they had the metalic shadow sonic and eggman pack but they were upside down in the package!!
5:26 At end of the catalog of the figure it says Zelda and Samus from smash melee, ¿are those even out?,¿Could someone tell me whats with that?...¿¡ There was a SmAsH BrOs ToY lInE!?!
L and N Studios Seeing this comment and those exact plushies in the latest video here makes me realise that life has taunted me with those plushies since they came out back in 2015. My soul hurts.
Both of those videos will absolutely be remade someday! In some way, this video can actually sorta be seen as a remake of my old video on tons of bendy Sonic figures, as I did feature the Joyride figures. Of course this video is far more in depth than that one but yeah. I'm actually kinda worried that when I do remake ReSaurus Sonic, it'll be like 2 hours long lol, but it'll happen eventually.
I still have my precious joyride sonic figure, and I'm never selling it EVER. seriously tho, It took me a while to get my parents to buy me that figure, and it holds a special place in my heart.
Man, I had Sonic and Shadow as a kid. I scuffed up Sonic a lot because I loved playing with him, and I used Shadow so much (as he was my only toy of Shadow) that his arms both broke off TWICE. My mom had removed and replaced the wires once, and although his shoulders were torn, he still worked fine for my childhood made-up Sonic adventures. The second time I broke his arm wires, I handed him over to my mom and as far as I know, he was put in a small bag with his arms and then was misplaced. I know which room he's in, but no idea where in said room. I still have the cardboard pro-tip cards, though!! I had no idea they'd come from those figures until I saw this. At least one of them is still on my old home's wall in my room.
I remember begging my parents for these but they couldn't find them in any stores. I don't even remember where I heard about them as a kid but now the prices are crazy.
ya know if they got a joyride sonic figure and the magic of 3d printing they could make a sonic head but with his eyes straight if they have the courage to mod a old figure
Just moved into my first house and dug out the old toy boy from the attic of my childhood home and whaddya know I have this Sonic and the stand in good condition haha.
I was lucky with my collection. I managed to get the prototype sonic for £40, sonic for £20 and Shadow for £75. All boxed and mint. I even have both red and grey base variants.
I had figures like these when I was a kid. I bent the limbs so much that they started to wear and you could see the wires under the skin. After a while they did end up falling off.
Big wall text so apologies: I remember how BAD I wanted the Joyride Gamepro/Nintendo Power toys but I could never find them anywhere for the life of me. It wasn’t till maybe around 2007(right at their end) I got a few Halo 2 figures from them and for the time….hell to this day they still hold up well. I’m a big toy collector now but back in the day I remember how blown away I was with the articulation of the Spartan figures. I was talking about many of these in a toy group I’m in that’s full of collectors and even some in or with experience in the toy industry and he was telling us how even back in the early years of these releases how bad they would get scalped and sold out that the only way to even get a hold of these was mostly through BBTS pre orders. A Samus Gamepro figure goes up for 800$ in package nowadays just to give you an idea how many of the others go for now. Most Halo CE/Halo 2 ones go for about 100-200 a pop. Great video btw. Not many people talk about Joyride studio toys anymore. They definitely did what many didn’t do back in the day.
Those shoes man...it's the stuff of legend
Yes dude he knows props to you wounded

I totally remember having Sonic in 2002, I remember bringing him in for show and tell in elementary school xD I was not a cool kid.
SuperRetroBros. Cool kid by my standards
Bet all those kids making fun of you for bringing a sonic figure for show and tell are hitting themselves because of how rare it is

There are currently a sonic and shadow figure on ebay but I dont have the money to drop 300 bucks on each
BRO JAKKS AND FUNKO JUST MADE SOAP SONIC HOLY CRAP
I really hope tomy will make a 2 pack with the "high speed shoes" sonic and shadow later on
Could you remake some of your older videos, specifically Mario RPG and ReSaurus Sonic? It's not the same without your voice.
Haha, great to hear.
Boring adventure 2
Ahhhh yes.
We have sonic the hedgehog.
Shadow the hedgehog.
And stone the hedgehog.
(Original character do not steal)
literally "ah yes" with 4 h's and no "my" or "favorite"
that's fucking it
I USED TO HAVE THESE! I accidentally twisted one of Sonic's arms off... I also had the Luigi's Mansion and Mario Sunshine figures
Sonic makes all types of products? OK where's my Sonic horse saddle?
Nice to see Im finally early to one of these.
P.S. go fst
BRUH how did Joyride go out of business, they made stuff for like EVERY popular game!!
Yeah right?
Not to mention that everything they made was very high quality.
Man toys From back in the day were 10 times better than today's toys
*i have never clicked on a video so fast in my life*
Damn, all of your videos are so exstensive and interesting. Keep at it and you'll get big. I hope so too :)
0:30 Is mario raising the middle finger?
So if you have one of these, you can tear sonics shoes off and put it on a tomy/jazwares/jakks sonic?
Theoretically yes but why ruin it
I remember begging my parents for these but they couldn't find them in any stores. I don't even remember where I heard about them as a kid but now the prices are crazy.
What I wish is if tomy made modern sonic with soap shoes in a two pack with shadow cool right
I Strangely Like Tomy's Classic Sonic Action Figure.
Radic The Hedgehog yeah who doesn’t
The classic tomy figures are good.
ya know if they got a joyride sonic figure and the magic of 3d printing they could make a sonic head but with his eyes straight if they have the courage to mod a old figure
A look back at the Enzy New Super Mario Bros. 2006 Plush Set.
Just moved into my first house and dug out the old toy boy from the attic of my childhood home and whaddya know I have this Sonic and the stand in good condition haha.
There’s now a new Soap Shoe sonic figure coming soon..
is it ok if the prototype sonic is mint but not in box cause i have one mint butt not in box sadly though .
I was lucky with my collection. I managed to get the prototype sonic for £40, sonic for £20 and Shadow for £75. All boxed and mint. I even have both red and grey base variants.
Zamn zanial
I obtained the sonic without his nose for less than 15 dollars.
Without this video I wouldn't have even known they existed.
Thanks PatMac
Wow this video shouldnt be this good, well done!
Awesome. Now I really want these!!
I'm lucky enough to have gotten the Sonic figure for $12 with his stand last year XD
I had figures like these when I was a kid.
I bent the limbs so much that they started to wear and you could see the wires under the skin.
After a while they did end up falling off.
Using shadow finger you can make him pick his nose! MY DREAMS HAVE FINALLY COME TRUE!!!!!!!!
Big wall text so apologies:
I remember how BAD I wanted the Joyride Gamepro/Nintendo Power toys but I could never find them anywhere for the life of me.
