Having ridden Suzukis all my life and recently having to change to a crf450 just because I’m getting old and needed a electric starter all this bike really needs is a electric start, maybe a Hinson auto clutch and a bash plate for the bush and it’s perfect. I rode my 2006 rmz450 for 17 years in the forest until the gearbox decided it didn’t want to turn round anymore haha. you can’t beat a Suzuki for handling and it really shows in the fast tight stuff!!
So awesome! Can’t believe the transmission lasted that long! Awesome story. Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing! I’ll try and get an E start on this thing for you
Hey Charles , I should start doing up that old rmz soon and want to get back riding it occasionally , also have a 97 rm125 project bike and “from new” my 1991 RM250 which I want to take back to as new condition. This is a rare bike in NZ as I dont think I have ever seen another one, you see the odd 89,90, 92 models rm and Rmx’s though. That bike was thrashed for 15 yrs, then got the rmz after that , my first bike was a pe175 hehehe so clearly Like you I loveeeee Suzukis and I’m hoping you do more on your similar age RM you have
Now this is rad! I still love the rmz 450, could not care less if its not new, Roczen shows how damn good it is. And btw i see some good space for little something coming your way! Lets go Chuck! 🤘🏼
Absolutely my favorite part of these! Honestly it’s one of the reasons that keeps me interested in doing these! The other one is doing it for everyone in the first place
Rmx trans with stock gearing. There's a reason why all the good offroad bikes have wide ratio transmissions. I vote silver frame black hardware. Will look better longer than a scratched up black frame.
Builds gonna be sick charles! Be careful with them titanium pegs, hitting rocks with them can throw sparks. Rare occasion but has happened to me before and something to watch while in the woods.
Great point! I had originally bought them for my own bike, but it was a little too old for them to fit (08). I really wanted some Fastway EXT’s for this bill, but the brand does not have a peg ready for Suzuki’s. I even went in there and gave them a stock peg and said “ here’s your jig, please make this happen! Haha!” I suppose steel is going to be good for longevity, but also makes sparks. I might be damned no matter what on that one.
Was always a less is more trail rider, bark busters, gearing, bigger tank and spark arrestor was it for me here in Michigan Haven’t ridden in 15+ years and am looking forward to taking the 05 Rmz450 to the woods that I bought as a project Didn’t figure on riding again but my youngest son is getting into riding so now I’m back into it lol Thank you for all you do and the awesome builds you put together
Definitely doesn’t take much! Suspension probably the most important above all. In my case, I have the unique situation of needing to create something a little bit overboard for everyone at the same time…. At least in my opinion, anyways, for the giveaway. Welcome back! That is so cool. I’ve had some moments like that too. One of which was breaking a femur. Sold my bike immediately. Regretted it immediately. Bought another one immediately. (and it was an 06 RMZ!!)
Im ultra exited about making a wide ratio out of that bike. As i said before, if the rmxz trans does nit fit a 3rd gear set shaved down works for DRZ. as a 5th wide ratio.
That will be freaking sick. When we did Helfyre down at Rekluse headquarters, they were showing us up close all of the guts of the new 4.0 system. The wedges are so cool. Looks like it will last forever.
Charles, what is the output of the stater, a fan will be essential for an off road build but a headlight will give it that classic RMX vibe and definitely use yellow plastic, for the price you got that for it's almost worth it just for the looks, probably not available but an auto clutch would be nice to prevent flame out/stalling.
I’m definitely going to make some moves on that auto clutch! I’m unaware of the output currently. I have seen them power, small LED lights with the stock motocross generator. But, I’m also going to look into the actual RMX stator (the ones that used to be produced) and see if it’s something I need to dive into. I also have the option of running a standalone battery, perhaps letting it get a trickle charge from the 12 V service port, and then backing a fan and a light. It all seems to drive in a basic sense, but I would hate to wear out electrical components prematurely, so I will do my homework on all of this
I’m confused what exactly you are trying to build. Is it a trail ride with your buddies having a good time just exploring or it a GNCC “race” bike? Having done both the list of modifications are somewhat similar but also different enough to have a dedicated trial bike and a race bike.
It definitely would! In my experience, it comes down to how well the prep is done, and then some differences between frame casting and material types. For example, anodizing never seems to take very well on the actual welds. Then you have cast or forged pieces of the frame, followed by a milled piece where the linkage is installed. A spot like that, the milled piece, would probably come up really gorgeous all by itself since the base finishes really nice already. The more rough areas would be a little bit, more dull, and the welds would probably be a little bit ashy. Speaking generally! But I absolutely love the idea, and I wouldn’t really know how good or not it would come out unless we tried. I have seen it done in darker colors on frames. It’s really cool. Thanks for watching and for shooting out some cool ideas for everyone
I think its impossible to install e-start combine with hydro clutch. You might have to decide wich one over the other. E-start for sure, combined to battery, headlight and fans.
That’s true! It may very well be in the way although, if it’s like the two-stroke version we did then I may be able to do both. I guess we’ll see which way the starter motor is facing ultimately
That Rmz is going to be a cool bike what do you think of the colour anthracite as a colour for the frame Charles bit like the colour of the old school rm frames.is that cheeky little kx in the background going to be a build coming soon Charles?
I will have to Google that color! Not sure what it looks like. Thanks for dropping some info. Yeah, man, check out the KX here if you have TikTok? Awesome customer bill going down. www.tiktok.com/t/ZT26xRRj2/
There is already a company that makes an oem estart for that motor....suzuki. the mxgp team ran it there but they cant run it here because the production rule
I wish that were true! Panthera should hopefully have theirs done in time for this Build. The bike you mentioned (is bad ass!) and that is actually a production RMX450Z engine. Looks like they fabricated a left side engine head stay to accommodate that engine in the newer chassis. I always wondered why Suzuki did not just put this in the RMZ450 since they already had the tooling! I believe that engine came out in 2009 or 2010. Then that bike was discontinued, brought back, and discontinued again! I had a 2017 RMX450Z with that engine in it, It was really cool.
Good Morning Fellas!! and don't think we didn't see you hiding over there at the computer answering my stupid questions Uncle Tony😉. I like the direction your going with this build not everyone rips it up on the Moto track. I am very excited to see whats coming down the pipe...Not that pipe Charles 🍆💦 Get your mind outta the gutter and concentrate. 🤣🤣🤣
Hey bro hope all is well !! I think if Suzuki wants to make a hot come back with bikes then they should follow Kawasaki with the new two stroke line they are coming out with!!!!! What do you think . When you get the chance email me back .😊 love ya bro!
Holy crap, I completely blew it on the email buddy. Sending myself a reminder now. Thank you for your patience! Yeah, I think it would be pretty brilliant for them to do that honestly but I won’t hold my breath. They are getting back into MotoGP and just released a new 400 super Moto so that’s pretty cool. Allegedly all the tooling for the previous Suzuki two-stroke has been thrown in the dumpster. Maybe we’ll get lucky someday!
@ it’s all good brother ! It’s busy time of year for us to lol as for Suzuki throwing the tooling out for previous two stroke builds that could have been the dumbest thing they could have done . They could have taken the last gen 250 motor updated it with new tech with the same basic design made even more consistent and better power put it in the rmz frame and bam sold millions!

The rmz just looks sooo good but if it had creature comfort it would be amazing
It will! All for you, dude!
Black frame with aluminum swing arm and subframe. Black hardware. Tungsten triple clamps. No white plastics! Yellow OEM RMX headlight. 👌🏻🏁😎
That sounds so freaking sexy!
Love your builds, Charles. A++ work and detail!
I appreciate the hell out of ya! Thanks for watching!
Ey man thank you for this amazing content. Keep it up
Hey, thank you for watching!
That was a hell of a deal on a brand new bike. Can't wait to see what you do with this one.
Can’t pass it up! Just didn’t know what I was going to do with it initially. Thanks, Austin! You know how it will end up! 😍
Gonna be bad ass just like all of them. I feel like the black hardware makes them a little more one of one
@josephmillette1363 the black hardware is a nice touch 👌
Rmx trans with stock gearing. There's a reason why all the good offroad bikes have wide ratio transmissions.
I vote silver frame black hardware. Will look better longer than a scratched up black frame.
Can’t argue with that! Thanks a ton for watching dude
This is awesome! I already have a hydraulic clutch, e-start RMX but I would love to have one with the newer chassis.
Yes!!! that’s what I’m going for, that bike right there! I don’t have many regrets but I do kick myself in the butt for selling my 17.

That's a damn fine arnold impression sir, love your builds keep it up
😂 thanks dude! He always comes out when the radiators are being pulled, sometimes engines being lifted. Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
If you powdercoat frame and swingarm try getting protecter cover from CMT etc.
Carbon fiber 😍😍😍
Im ultra exited about making a wide ratio out of that bike. As i said before, if the rmxz trans does nit fit a 3rd gear set shaved down works for DRZ. as a 5th wide ratio.
That’s very good knowledge, right there!
@mxrevival when its appart take a look at it
Before getting the frame and triple tree painted try to fit a steering damper from a honda
Ride makes a cool HSPD kit!
I love my 2014 rmz 450 and it has the benefits of being road legal 😊
Those are killer bikes!
@mxrevival I love it mate, seems very reliable but I don't abuse it
i really hope you find a oem suzuki headlight, front fender combisation with a baja dedign good quality headlight assembly.
I’ve got my eye on a nice headlight that other people can use also.
I bet a dr400z headlight would be a good match with a universal tailtidy charles @@mxrevival

I off-road my 23 rmz450 and something I noticed I need is a rekluse auto clutch for it

I’m down with a blue frame/blue engine combo and yellow plastics
I agree with the blue frame and engine...throw back style!!!
RM 400 style!
I’m confused what exactly you are trying to build. Is it a trail ride with your buddies having a good time just exploring or it a GNCC “race” bike? Having done both the list of modifications are somewhat similar but also different enough to have a dedicated trial bike and a race bike.
Since I love Suzuki blue, throw a little heritage in there with a Suzuki blue engine and frame with black fasteners!
That would definitely catch people’s attention!
I’d say black frame silver hardware, I’d definitely still want the kickstart on the bike not big on no back up starting lol
Ok, ok, I like it!!
Whatever you do don’t make it a yellow frame lol
Awesome video buddy 👍 👏 👌 😊
Thank you, my dude!
PS. Suggest Kal-Gard coatings. Way better than Cerakote and lasts way longer.
I’ll have to look into those, I have not heard of them. Thanks for the info and for watching!
Just wondering if it would be possible to gold / yellow anodized the aluminum frame..
And how that would look.
It definitely would! In my experience, it comes down to how well the prep is done, and then some differences between frame casting and material types.
For example, anodizing never seems to take very well on the actual welds. Then you have cast or forged pieces of the frame, followed by a milled piece where the linkage is installed.

i like the rough black
will you remove cast lines from fork triple tree or shap them out?
Maybe. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.
Looks like the one on kaps channel what a dream to win this

Awesome bike Suzuki the best
Love them! 😍
Nothing like muddy rocky hillside trying to kick start a 450 with steam coming out 😢
Don’t forget a flywheel weight 👍
😁 would never! If the electric start goes down, I’m very curious on how much flywheel weight we will get added out of that bad boy.
my 9 was not enough i would get a 11 custom made back then
Do not powdercoat the frame. Its aluminum and easy to take care of. Keep the kickstarter too.
Too late 😁
@mxrevival NO!!!!!!!!!!!
My Kawi was "oiled'. Not much in the form of grease. But I had 0 hours on it when I tore it down.

I might be the actual Suzuki Army nowadays 😂
Keep the kick starter, the deletion of kick starters has been a big complaint in the off road community.
I hear this a lot. The motocross side of me wants to get rid of the weight. 😂 not the right move this time…
you're building a Mike Webb replica. 😊
