Thank you so much for your videos.
It pains me to see so many people raising lambs in such risky ways. I have tried suggesting to people better methods of raising them, but because I'm not a vet they never listen and then end up with dead lambs. Now I have access to your videos I often share them and I feel like people are now listening.
We are so lucky to have a vet like yourself going to this effort to help people raise healthier lambs. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤
It's so hard to find a good ovine vet, I wish we had you over here in South Australia 🇦🇺

I agree with you. Sez is amazing and has helped me with my lambs a lot. I too am in South Australia and I'm not sure where you are but Rachel from Meadows Vet Clinic is an amazing ovine vet. She has helped me a lot and at all times xx

Thanks so much! It's certainly a labour of love and not sure how long I'll be able to maintain the channel, but for the mean time it brings me a lot of peace knowing it's helping. THank you for you kind words. x

Hi agian, would you mind if I used your kind words as a testimonial for my online content? Would be very appreciated. I also need a few people to video record short testimonials, if you're up for it! (most people are camera shy, so no worries there haha)

Enjoy watching your videos 😊. Thanks for giving your free time to us. Been on my farm 15 years and I still have much more to learn. Weed control at the moment before it's too hot and Auckland's fireban start's

Sharing a good news story, 4 week old lamb orphaned lamb, that we had been hand feeding milk replacement, was suffering severe abomasal bloat last night.
It had just starting going into shock, we gave it 11mm-12mm of bi-carb soda and water mix by feeder tube directly to stomach, and our 10 year old boy, gently rubbed the lambs belly.
Rubbed on the sides, whilst the lamb was in the standing position. We measured the belly circumference and at worst was 24", this gradually reduced to 21" after an hour or so.
We woke up to a healthy, active, not bloated lamb.
We have lost over 12 lambs in the last 3-4 years with this condition, first time we have tried this remedy, with success!

Do you need to wait for the tummy to go down before giving a yoghurtised milk feed?

Great, good to know. This is exactly what happened to Beans but he was a bit worse. The vet didn't give him any treatment like that and didn't scan him even though he went to the clinic. They said he was ruminating ok and to wean him early. Now a couple of years later he still gets bloated especially wet pasture with some clover and he gets very mushy and messy this time of year when everyone else is fine. My question is can this create long term effects like Beans? And is there anything I can do for him now? Thanks.

Hi, I think I may have answered this on your question to another video. No, to my knoweldge there are no long term effects of abomasal bloat, and there really isnt any reason why there should be. The stomach swtiches gear, so as an adult the hard food (grass etc) is going into the rumen, and bloat is occuring in the rumen. eg clover stabilises gas bubbles in the rumen causing frothy bloat. All in the rumen though. Many animals will also get lose stools with the lush grass due to the high protein content. I wouldnt expect his bloating as an adult to have anything to do with his abomasal bloat as a baby, as the whole system is completely different. For the runny backside, feed hay to try and balance out the excess protein with carbs. For any bloating on clover, you can give bloat oil, either directly in to the mouth or in the water. :)

@@SeztheVet Yes you did thanks again :). Was just wondering if there could be longterm effects.

Dr did you check the temp or any other sign

    • @SeztheVet
      @SeztheVet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes absolutely, as part of my initial physical exam I look at temperature, heart and respiratory rate, and mucous membrane colour and perfusion. Out of all of these, the temperature is the least of my concerns as this lamb does not look anything like a septic clostridial bloat (where they are dull and lethargic with mild-moderate bloating and congested, toxic looking conjunctiva). But habitually, yes I always do :). With an abomasal bloat you would not expect to see a fever. However respiratory rate and heart rate, as well as perfusion of the mucous membranes, will all tell me how compromised the patient is.
