Another part for me that ranks up is when Carlton is not accepted into the fraternity for being to white and preppy. Then he proceeds to give a heartfelt speech about "black is something I am, not something I am trying to be".

I still say the best episode of this show was ''Papa's Got a brand new excuse'' and when I found out that Will's monologue at the end of the episode was completely improvised it blew me away

That scene wasn't improvised. The story about Will Smith using personal experience for it isn't true. His dad was with him and supported him every step of the way.
Those lines were scripted.

Damn it that "How come he don't want me, man?" scene is powerful. Even just seeing that snippet brought tears to my eyes. So heart breaking. As much as I love the Carlton dance I'd say it probably should have been number 1. Great list though!

Number 2 is one of the most powerful scenes in any sitcom, that anger from Smith is raw and real, it was completely unscripted and fuelled by the anger he reserved for his actual father; the subsequent hug from James Avery was also improvised, as he broke character to comfort his distraught colleague.
Why did this have to end??? I loved watching the reruns. Kinda wish I was born earlier so I could witness the magic when it first arrived.

"Gone,Daddy,Gone" made happy Uncle Phil is truly the real man of the family and made me tear up..everytime I watch that ending.All that pent up emotion,just,just rushing out to a unforgettable moment of this show.We didn't even know Smith had these kinds of acting chops THAT early in his career??

#2 should have been #1 this scene hits my heart the most. I cry everytime i watch it.
Another big moment IMO is when Aunt Viv teaches history at Will's school in s01. She totally calls him out for not knowing as much black history as he thinks he does and only paying lip-service to the movement.
That and the proverb at the end - very powerful.

I was waiting for the moment when Carlton talks about the Trix Rabbit. My favorite scene in the entire show. Was somewhat surprised it didn't even make the honorable mentions. Then again, there are so many good moments in this show.
