This was honestly one of the most beneficial videos ive been able to put into practice! I recently just started playing myself, and i was getting frustrated with the effort it took to produce a sound, and also running into the squeaking! Working on my embouchure and tenseness was really something that helped me stop. Also i didn't think about reed hardness either.
Thank you so much I was crying because I was so angry And upset (and tired) yesterday even though I had practiced in The store when getting my clairinet and I tried playing it at home and it didn’t work but then I watched this And it helped
This helped me so much, I’ve been using the same 2 reeds for about a month and a half (both 3.5s) and now I keep squeaking. Tried a new reed and problem was solved.
5 years strong crappy teacher high school really helped kids with better teacher noticed things I was doing wrong straight off the bat thank full for this video and them
I am a beginner and I squeak alot, but now I know why - my hand isn't very big and my fingers don't fully cover the keys but now I'm better at it, thanks!
Thank you! I’ve been playing for about 3 years ( 5 or 6th grade my memory is kinda bad xD ) and I have had this problem when playing hard pieces with a lot of high notes! I also stuck to the same reed thickness and so this made me realize that it may be time to try out a higher level
Thank you so much! I inherited my moms clarinets and I’ve had trouble with squeaking. I’m learning on TH-cam videos so this was really helpful I couldn’t find another one that helped much
Thanks for this excellent video. My students find it helpful, and I love how succinct and matter-of-fact it is. I'm looking forward to watching your other ones!
Thank you. I could figure out why I was squeaking. I think I may been to go up a reed size. I use 2.0 on clarinet and alto saxophone. I may have to try out a 2.5
Thank you this was very helpful. You mention a video on the embouchure checker at about the two minute mark but I couldn't seem to find it. Do you have a link you could share?
are you pressing all the keys down? It could be due to 1: not covering all holes 2: problems with fingering/keys don’t work 3: too much or too little mouthpiece 4: incorrect embouchure sorry i’m 2 months late, but i hope this helps
I'd tighten my embouchure when I'm out of breath so thankfully this video has taught me to not do that. Defiantly recommend it to others with the same problem.
omg i've been trying to play my clarinet without it squeaking for each note that i play and nobody was able to explain why it was doing that, tysm i was about to throw my clarinet on the concrete and stomp on it O-o
I play the Tin whistle but if like to learn to play, I'm almost 47, but it usually doesn't take long to learn once I figured it out, I need to learn my scales like I play my Irish tin whistle and my piano
Gone back to play one of my old grade 8 pieces and I keep squeaking on the high D. I have tired all my reeds. Tried different methods of playing it. Still having this persistent problem
Just because you’ve been trying for hours doesn’t mean you’ll improve, for me I still squeak sometimes but not as much as I used to, when you keep playing then you’ll be more improved
Just keep trying, I play the Saxophone but the clarinet is a one to master, just try different technique's like change for softer reed the angle you hold the clarinet to mouth pointing more down than up. how you placed the reed in the mouth piece level to the tip or down a bit. The clarinet may need a service if bought secondhand keys lose or pads not sealing although they look like they are but not, this can happen if the clarinet has been stored for many years. Make sure the instrument is put together correctly ie the two main parts lined up. And lastly get your teacher or a experience player to play your clarinet and combo ie reed etc to check that they can play it, if they cant you will never play it, it will be the clarinet itself that needs attention. If they can play it then it will be your technique that needs changing.
ny reed might be too soft i think i been using number 2 since grade 4 soo maybe i go to 2.5 idk how it works bjt tmr i ahve like a test and i got new reed bc mine is okd and now ims queak

1: not covering all holes
2: problems with fingering/keys don’t work
3: too much or too little mouthpiece
4: incorrect embouchure

I was so surprised I wasn't covering the bottom holes with my right hand

What about when you get a new reed? I have a new reed and I'm in a school christmas concert so, is there anyway i could fix that?
Gracias
I’ve nerved hear squeaking in orchestral performances. maybe this only happen in your sons’ and daughters’ recitals.
Having trouble with high c, it keeps playing a high A instead, super annoying. Haven’t had trouble before. Brand new 3.0 reed
I've been trying for hours and I still can't stop squeaking :(( Tips anyone?
