      So cheap, too. Everybody was having a nice time on just survival-type jobs. It was a gas until about 1990, then things started to curdle. What we see today is stomach-turning.

    Back when $175 a month would get you a nice 1BR apt possibly with a bay view

      @Hans Hummer $600 a month possibly. I got the rental figure from a line in Armisted Maupin's Tales of the City. It was written at and set in that time.

    3:32 Lefty O'douls was one of the bars on my pub crawl, from Market St to Fisherman's Wharf. It had a HUGE wooden bar inside... is it still there?

      o'douls in Union Square closed a couple of years ago and relocated to Fisherman's Wharf. That second location closed also. Its owner has found himself in a slew of legal problems with city corruption.

    I REMEMBER WHEN I FIRST MOVED TO SAN FRANCISCO, THEY WERE FILMING THE MOVIE TOWER INFERNO THE STREETS WERE BOCK OFF IN PLACES DOWN.

    The City is a collection of neighborhoods. How many in this film can you name?
    I'll start:
    North Beach ,home of the Hungry I.
    Downtown - boring name I know. Did you know it is built largely on fill, some of which still contains ship hills abandoned in the 1849 gold rush era?
