    Hi Fred! Not five minutes after I uploaded this video, I received the info from Doall. It is for dbw-1 butt welder. The cover page says it covers years 1939-1944. Yeah! Even this is not an exact match but the closest one yet. So thumbing through it quickly the first thing I see is that it is in fact, missing an internal switch! The missing link as we suspected. So I'll rig something in (maybe a microswitch) and try to get the timing set. So as they say, we may be down but not out. Your support means allot. Thanks so much for sticking with me on this. Tc, Mike

      Fantastic!!! I am so pleased that you found someone at DoAll that was responsive to your query. As you know my queries with them went unanswered. We had talked about possible "missing parts" a couple of times and it looks like we were on the right track. Best of luck in the fabrication. Definitely let us know how you make out. Fred

    If I had to guess I would say it looks like it is working on the anneal cycle.You are close to getting it to work. Saw does look fantastic!! Very nice.

    Hi Mike, take this for what its worth. There is an adjustment on mine. If your looking at the welder, its on the left, through the annealing contact points. Try screwing that in. It will increase the weld time. Also make sure the blades are exactly in line with each other and touching. Once the weld is complete, the sliding portion of the holding fixture will retract. The amount of time it remains in contact is adjusted by this, i believe, an allen screw. Admittedly, its a crazy set up. I'll double check with my son. I'll get back to you in an email. Good luck and don't give up, you'll get it, and you'll feel that much better after, because it was such a challenge.

      Hi Steve, I just got the info from Doall. The missing piece of the puzzle is that it is in fact missing an internal switch! As in "not there"!! So I'll get that sorted out and see what next issue is. Finally can make some progress. Thanks for your support Steve! God bless Mike

    Dang Michael! Did you ever check the voltage drop from the outlet to the machine? Stay with it buddy you are close...

    Hi Mike - I read you have received more info now... which may be hopefully useful to track down re the switch enigma.
    The thing I would really really want is a wiring diagram!! That to me should give the info needed. I'm still wondering all the time what the windings are on the trans because one winding should be for the actual weld power - a winding with not many turns probably.
    The saw for sure looks amazing now.

      Hi Chris. I'm not sure I got it all downloaded. It came through in several files. The schematic is the key. I know for sure the switch is missing. It kind of makes sense now. I'm in Tennessee and get back on it in a few days. It's nice to see green grass again. I hope your weather is changing for the better! 😁Tc, Mike

    Michael the one had @ Lockheed aerospace if I remember right one side opened so as not to pull apart and the blade needed to be one long peace connected not 2 short but it worked that way Joe

      I do seem to remember some movement during or just after weld. Not sure mine will release like that. But when I get back in town I'm going to go over all the documentation I just received from Doall. Hopefully by next video i will have this working. Using two shorts instead of a loop may enter into it too. I'll check that out. Probably could put a jumper wire to the ends of the blade. Thanks for your input! Mike

    Mike, to me, that looks like the Anneal circuit in operation. If I hold the Anneal button on .......on mine, that is what it will do to
    the blade. I'm sure once you have the missing switch hooked up, sparks will fly properly.

      Hmm, interesting. The missing switch revelation changes my wiring thought completely. Knowing this it kind of starts to make sense. I'll be out town for the next week but when I get back I'm planning on giving her heck! Later buddy! 🙂 Mike

    I wish I could help Mike, but unfortunately I can’t, the saw looks great by the way you’ve done a job it for sure, just read some of the other comments, so it looks like your on the right track now, good look mate you’ll be making metal dust in no time, I keep meaning to ask does your lathe have a taper attachment on it, mine has but never used it yet and I’ve a job coming up where I could do with knowing how it works

      Hi Al. I sure wish I had a taper attachment. They are about as simple to setup as they look. You will have no problem with it. The other thing on my bucket list is a steady rest. I've passed on a couple of jobs because I don't have one. Used Colchester ones on eBay go for top dollar. I'm watching for a lesser brand and will modify to fit. Looking forward to your taper attachment video! Best regards, mike

    Have you got the welder workng yet? It looks like you are missing the switch that changes to the weld cycle as you depress the handle?

    • @michaelmurray9154
      @michaelmurray9154  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes ive had it working for a number of months. And you are right on target. A viewer sent me the correct schematic, and it all fell into place. The switch was missing. It's a spdt and I found one that fit right in. Easy to wire once I knew the logic. Its weird because it couldn't possibly have been working before I got it. I've thought about making a video welding and tempering a blade even those there is several already out there. Thanks for your input, Mike

    I just took mine apart, and found a wiring diagram tucked into it. How can I get it to you?

    • @michaelmurray9154
      @michaelmurray9154  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would need a schematic for DBW-1, or earlier. If that's your schematic, you could take a photo and send to toolmaker1968er@gmail.com. I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks, Mike

      @@michaelmurray9154 Hi, I'm sure you got it welding by now. I just started working on a DBW-1 today. I never saw the main contacts in this video. hopefully you have found contacts and installed. i dont have the switch for adjusting the taps on the transformer. i only have 3 wires off my transformer, and 1 of the 3 is for annealing.my current settings are adjusted by a cam that changes the tension on a spring. i am in need of a wiring schematic to verify this is all correct.. the company i work for has been around since 1912. i actually have the paper work from when my company purchsed this bandsaw in spring of 1946. pretty neat... nobody can remember the last time the welder worked and asked me to tinker with it... you would make my day if i could get a copy of your wiring schematic...

      @@johnrighter4850 Hi John. Yes my welder is working fine now thanks to the crazy biker guy. I'm not sure the tap control switch is a necessity. Maybe you could just experiment to find the tap that works best with your most common blade widths and wire to that one. I would be happy to send you all the documention I have. I also could be available to discuss it with you via phone if you would like. Just give me an email address and I'll get the schematic to you. Tc, Mike

    Hi there,
    This link may be of use to you : www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34928&page=5
    I have an old Doall bandsaw with the same welder as in the link above.
    Will try to get the old girl refurbished when I have got time.
    Hope you find the info meets your requirements

    • @michaelmurray9154

      Thanks for the info I appreciate it! I've had my welder working for some time now. A viewer actually found an old schematic folded up and stuck in the body of the machine he was rebuilding, and sent me a copy. It was for my exact welder and aha! Everything fell into place from there. Good luck with your saw! Best regards, Mike
